I remember hearing about Scrafce 2 years before finally watching it. One guy I worked with was an addict wh watche dat elast once a fortnight so I thought let me watch this 'classic'

I watched and was like, are you serious? Fun , yeah, classic, by no means

What film had you watched  that was hyped( by your freinds/critics) that just majorly disapointed

On the flipside, what film lived up to every bit of the hype generated.

For me The Godfather did. I'm definately a Godfather groupy, well at least the 1st one anyway

sat down with my gf to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on video and was dead embarassed. What a dull,  cliched, long boring film that was! Couldn`t watch gf in the face for 30 mis afterwards...it was me who raved about it from reviews in the heavy press.Jesus,,,

More boring useless film:

Shakespeare in YAWN, I mean Love..

Ulysses Gaze (Grand Jury Winner Cannes'- should have been renamed Ulysses Dozed)

Sex Lies and Videoape - silly and studenty, yet it won the Palm D'or!!

Traffic - another Soderburg dud!

Girl 6 - Spike Lee, embarrasing

Mo Better Blues/Crooklyn/School Daze/Summer of Sam - Can I have my money back Lee?

Alphaville - Luc Godard, dull dull dull

Van Helsing  ..hell at Star City cinema more like

Rervoir Dogs - pointless, story less, motionless

Morons from outer Space/Sex Lives of the Potato men - didnt see either but heard that they stunk!!

Mafdet: have to agree 'Green Mile' what a fabulous film.... The 'Exercist' is also a classic.............I do however agree that Van Helsing was definately overated... What hacked me off was that the scriptwriter obviously plumdered other films for punchlines... most notable the one where the lead heroin exclaims 'if your kill someone kill them and don't talk' or words to that effect.. which was shamelessly nicked from the "Good the bad and the Ugly'

who the hell is up in here, dissing 'goodfellas'?? have you lost your damn mind?:)

i would agree that 'van helsing ' was crap ( mtv music video style flashy, trashy, garbage).

i find the 'exorcist' boring garbage' until the last 20 minutes, but find the similar ' omen' much creepier and darker. that remains the only film to ever make me slightly apprehensive . i saw it on tv when i was 12, and bare in mind that i have owned and watched every uncut banned *video nasty* known to man by age 15.

that night time scene in the graveyard where charlton heston and mate dig up damiens mothers grave in the cemetary , open the coffin and find the skeleton of a dog, and then they are attacked by 3 or 4 rottweilers is crazy.

anyway, back to the question. i agree with drunkmonkey about ' blair witch'. i watched it on a bootleg vcd at the time it came out , and was ready to tump down the man i bought it from the next day cos i thought the ending of the film had been cut off!! turns out thats really how the film ended. i was vex!

most 'overhyped film'? titanic.

@Timeline

That big old gentle giant crying

I tried to take it back    blkcry I tried to take it back blkcry

bighairlol

Well for me Timeline it pulled at the heartstrings because the man was born with a special gift which in fact he himself viewed death as his only escape form it.   Many people have compared the film with Shawshack Redemption another great film but these two are completely different.  It also showed the evil mentality of beings who purposely seek out positions of power to fulfil their hunger for evil acts.

@Blakrussian

Goodfellas is a good film but I just don't see what the hype is all about I chose Once apon a time in America over this film anyday.

@Kunjufu

Van Helsing and The league of Extrodinary Gentlement are both crap films and I still await my refund.  When you watch the movie you can see it had so much potential but just didn't cut it for me. Plus the acting and accents were terrible.

Another movie where I was left speechless for all the wrong reasons

Daredevil

Another movie where I literally screamed "Is that it", in the cinema was Lord of the Rings (first one) when the two hobbits just sail away on the boat at the end I was like WHAT THE ~*$*%$ is going on here

Overrated:

Sex, Lies and Videotape- I'm a fan of James Spader, but this movie put me to sleep.
The Harder They Come-The '70s Jamaican  gangster movie. The movie wasn't that interesting until the last half. It does have a great soundtrack, though.
Pulp Fiction-Probably the most overrated movie of the 1990s.  Quentin Tarentino's technique of telling a story in a non-chronological fashion was inventive, but the movie's plot and dialogue had me rolling my eyes at times. The movie was trying too hard to be hip.

Underrated:

Jackie Brown-The Quentin Tarentino movie I actually liked.  I enjoyed the chemistry between Samuel L. Jackson and Pam Grier.
Claudine-Diahann Carroll/James Earl Jones movie from the 1970s about a romance between a single mother with six kids and a garbage man. The movie is also an indictment on how the system unfairly treats poor folks who try to better their lives.
Jackie's Back-A Spinal Tap-type mockumentary of a washed-up R&B diva played by Jenifer Lewis.  Whoopie Goldberg is hysterical as Jackie's bitter sister.

I liked the green mile!!  I even cried but then I cried in Disneys Tarzan when the gorilla said to tarzan "you will never be one of us but always a man cub" What an awful thing to say.

The film I saw that was overrated was the village.

And Mr and Mrs Smith

Star wars revenge of the sith

The lady killers

Well, jazztalking, I am a woman.

And my "sissy-fied" ;) instincts still tell me Pulp Fiction is overrated.  Jackie Brown is better.bigok

P.S.- I'm also quite effeminate and play sports like a girl.banana.gif

mafdet, i think that goodfellas was a great film. one of my favourites. for a 2 and a half hour film,( you hardly ever notice the length)  the pace never slows, and there is always a good bit around the corner.

once apon a time in america though had me shifting my arse in boredom at times. what was it, like 3 hours? felt like it too.i seen it twice and i am damned if i can even remember much about it at all. overrated, mate.

blair witch made me very angry. you see, i had purchased the vcd from a boot sale, and when the ending came i thought i had been conned, and that ending of the film was missing. about 5 months later, i rented the real thing and i couldnt believe that 'really ' was the ending! anyway, years later, if you sit down and ignore all the hype, its not really a bad film, and the ending is a bit eerie. i found that i could enjoy it years later without the hype.

hype. thats what really got peoples hopes up and made the ending seem like 'wtf'??

Overrated films.

Akira: Yawnfest, makes about as much sense as a veteran suicide bomber.

Casshern: Hyped like god in Japan with its Lack of direction, plot and everything else.

Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life: Unexpectedly sh*te.

Donnie Darko: Yeah! I know it has a cult following, but it shouldn't. It's rubbish.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: Not as cool as it likes to think it is.

Snatch: See above.

Four Weddings and a Funeral: About as funny as a hot engine on the lap.

Topgun: Three of mates joined the R.A.F because of this film.

Scarface: aka Some drunk bloke with a cheap video camera filming a bunch of people mumbling about something or another.

Titanic: So tragic, that I've never seen it but I know it's crap.

The Full Monty: This film alone is a good enough reason to hate the English, and perhaps declare war.

The Village, The Fog, The Cave, The Business, The anything f**king else: Like having The sh*ts, the lot of them. Imaginative titles too.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy: Like pulling teeth. Not enough people died.

Final Fantasy Advent Children: So wanted it to be good, but it's not. Too angsty, and little content.

Blade 2: Crap.

Braveheart: 3 f**king hours and for what?

ALL Bollywood films: Singing, dancing, signing, dancing, singing in high pitched voices. Go watch the Smurfs instead.

Fight Club: People actually base their whole life philosophy on this film, people who should attempt suicide.

Underrated films

Memento: Refreshingly good.

The Butterfly Effect: Not amazing but probably one of the better films I've seen.

Westworld: The Real Terminator.

Dawn of the Dead (The new one) It's good, honestly.

Monty Python's The life of Brian: Why people say The Holy Grail is better is beyond belief, it's not.

The original Charlie and the Chocolate factory: Sublime genius. I'm hearing too many people state that the new one is better. Actually it isn't, that happens to be utter sh*te for too many reason to mention.

Phonebooth: A grade stalking material.

The Final Destination films: Best deaths ever.

Shaun of the Dead: One of the better English films.

Clerks: It just is ok.
