So-called Horror movies nowadays only make me laugh at them, but I must admit that the final scene in Ringu with the spooky girl coming out the TV had me SHOOK!!
I think Evil Dead reigns supreme while The Exorcist isn't nearly as scary as people made out.

Freddy is too funny to be scary.
Jason is too stupid, all he does is walk and people fall over...
Chucky is a dumb dolly, how can anyone be scared of that? blasted chupidness. I DARE Chucky to test me....
Candyman used to be scary when I was a kid but then so was Jaws so that doesn't count. Silly hook made it comical too.
Exorcist was overrated and not scary at all. Just yukky and a bit off key. I was religious back when I watched it and wasn't impressed be her sexing the cross...
The Omen was a bit scary, Omen ONE I mean cos he was a lil boy. Again, I was religious when I watched it so telling me it was the DEVILS son and all those revalations quotes scared me senseless. Now I find it silly. The sequels were just nonsensical...
Hellraiser was dread only because Pinhead's voice was SOOO evil. Now his voice was scary you can't deny that but the over the top demon imagery and cartoonish violence made you desensitised to what you saw.
Halloween could not EVER scare a five year old.
Psycho... hmm possibly though the situation was not one Id likely be in so did not relate.
Poltergeist, I blamed the family for not moving out so I percieved that they deserved everything they got. Not scary.
Texas Chainsaw massacre. Extreme gore and blood does not equate to actual scaryness. I need to be chilled to the bone on a deeper level.
I would say the scariest movie EVER that is garaunteed to leave you disturbed and scared for life beyond repair is... The crying game. I won't even elabourate.
A close second would be that thing with Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze dressed up as chicks
I don't know if you saw that episode of CSI they showed yesterday (the one Tarrentino directed) where Nick was burried alive and eaten by ants... Now THAT was some scary messed up shhhhhh

| The Omen I, II & III and The Exorcist. Any of those religious scary movies. I find slasher movies just don't freak me out like those ones about possession, the devil and crap like that...strange enough I guess on some level I think that those are more likely to happen. I know there are a few others but can't think of them right now.

Evil Dead was heavy as a teen
Ring... total creepy at the end!!
Blair Witch scary for about 2 seconds... part 2 was totally wack
Believe it or not, Alien scares me and it's a sci-fi.. must be the 8 foot cockroach that spits acid and explodes out your tum... that's scary!!

Prince Hakeem,
I didn't think that the Exorcist was scary, but it really spoiled my appetite whenthe girl spat gook out of her mouth. There was also a movie made about 25 years ago called Laserblast. I used to think that it was scary. Now I look back at that picture and I'm like" How corny of a picture was that?" I used to look at Friday the Thirteenth and Halloween. I thought that both pictures was scary, until the kept making parts to them and it got to a point where it either got silly or boring. I remembered Looking a movie called Red Dawn . That was 19 years ago and Istill wouldn't people looking at.
I finally got to see WOW(War of the Worlds 2005). I looked at the 1950's version of it and I thought it was scary then. Did the 2005 version scare me? Yes! even more so.Although it's fiction, it just seem so real. Here is Tom Cruise and his family looking at dark clouds and is under the impression that a storm is near when in actuality, it was the aliens coming and then the aliens( their ship) crawled up and broke up the streets like crazy, just destroying things and the world in general. Another thing that I found scary about this movie is that you know when an alien was going reak havoc because of the trumpet sound coming from them. It reminds me of a scripture where it mentions about a trumpet being played when the end is near in the book of Revelations.I don't know about you, but I was so scared of that movie that I almost started not to come back inside. I guess what stopped me from doing that is the little humor it. Although it was a scifi flick WOW scared me like it was a horror movie.

films like evil dead one and two one of my alltime favourites. still scare me especially evil dead one i would watch only at day time.
other good horror film i like are
dawn of the dead.
omen.
poltergeist,1 i think, the one when the doll came to life that sh*t most have scared kids across the globe.looking strange at thier toys thinking they gonna come to life at night lol,i know i was. but the sequels were worthless.
Gremlins.
basket case, i remember this film lol, wasnt that scary, but theres something scary about stop motion animation. thats what also made evil dead kinda scary.
also a film about a headless horseman and a school teacher forgetton what its called, that ish used to scare me b4 as a cartoon. i think they remade it with johnny deep. christopher walkin was quite scary looking in that s..t
exorcist, exorsist i think is one of the alltime greatest horror films to me. films with all the blood slash like scream ,iknowwhatyoudidlastummer etc . aint one bit scary and are stupid to me. true that films with posssessed people escpecially possessed lil girls scare the sh*t outta most ppl. but now the whole sh*t as usually with hollywood lack of ideas means they keep remaking and copying films similar to the exorcist, justtoday i saw one stupid movie advert with some kid singing ipsy dipsy spider wearing the same garment as the girl in excorsist what the?? they all look the same now adays these hollywood directors really have lost all sense of creativity.

@DM
LOL you're right about Freddy being too funny to be scary!!! If they made it less jokey without all the one liners it would be up there with all the other terrfying films.
Part 3 and 4 are the ones that crack me up the most. Like in part 3 Dream Warriors when the girl's mum was going out on a date then you hear the mum's boyfriend's voice ask her "where's the bourbon?" Then when the mum continued to chat to the daughter, Freddy just comes out of nowhere dressed in a Tuxedo and goes "I said where's the f**king bourbon!?!?" then cuts her head off!!! LMAO!!!
Or what about in part 4 when he slides up to the girl eating the pizza in the bruk down restaurant then takes one of her meatballs and starts eating it and goes "mmmmmmmm" LMBAO!!!!

I swear Freddie was meant to be a nonse/peado, somehow they made a peado into a loveable character...much like Michael jackson. Nightmare on elm street was just a money machine

DAWN of the DEAD (1978)
Don't Open the Window- If you haven't seen this movie you probably never will, and I was just lucky to catch it in the theatre more than 25 years ago. It preceds George Romero's "Dawn" by quite a ways, but is a far more serious and frightening movie.
CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS-The original answer to "Night of the Living Dead", which of course is on the list.
Shock Waves (1975)-real creepy flick about a Nazi SS experiment out of control
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre-The original film, not the remake.
Shivers and eXistenZ, both directed by David Cronenberg

Very funny!!
I love horror movies, the gorier the better. The one movie that freaked me out unexpectedly was What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfieffer. I did not expect it to, but it got under my skin, especially the scene at the end under the water.
A film that I have only just managed to watch recently but has been out for a while is Gothika that film is bad ass! The scene where Halle Berry gets engulfed by flame is particularly disturbing.
I watched Exorcist for the first time, whilst I was at University at a special showing with a friend, I wanted to find out what the hype was all about with this movie. We both laughed throughout the movie. What was even funnier was that we were the only ones laughing.

| Question: What do you lot get out of watching horror movies? No really, where is the enjoyment in being scared sh*tless? I just don't get it! The music alone in half these films would have me shaking and crying and having nightmares. It always baffles me how people can get pleasure out of horror movies. Yeah, yeah I know it's not real but it's still scary.

Defo, thats my take on horror films nowadays.... you will never catch me watching any horror films....
My last one was Final Destination, which was a bit hiliarious and some shocking death scene, but that night I had a dream I was in the movie, on an open field (no fence, no were to hide) been chased down by a car powered on its (supposedly death), kept on running and ran out of breathe, I had cold sweat when I woke up, but boy I was glad to wake up....
Since then I promise not to feel my mind/imagination with scary ish like that again, even though I may not be scared when I watch it.

Ichi the killer is one sick puppy of a flick - Got it on DVD. It's not that scary but peeps might just find it hard to stomach all that gore.
Omen I & II - Only cos of the religious references AND THE MUSIC... (Santos...spiritus...)
Angel Heart - wasn't so spooky but it did enough to make me feel uncomfortable because of all that voodoo stuff. And that voodoo stuff freeeeeak me out.
And this is going waaaay back - a flick called Horror Express with Christopher Lee... watched it as a kid (7-8yrs) well watched like half of it - It freaked me out that much. Caught it on sky a few months back and I felt like such a p***y - It looked sooo fake - couldn't believe that film ever had me shook.
Slasher movies I think are pretty tame - you kinda know what's going to happen before it does.

| @ Blackthought: I think my aversion may stem from the fact that as kids we all used to watch horrors with the adults - in those days it wasn't seen as a biggie, not in my family anyway. The last horror I wached was Salem's Lot when I was about 10 and I was too scared to leave the room and go to bed by myself. I used to be scared all the next day, all in bright daylight I was worrying about evil spirits and sh*t. From them days til now I do not watch horrors. My friends and fam always try to come with ,"awww that film's not scary, it's more funny than scary, you should watch it." Yeah RIIIIGHT! Not watching none of dem, as I said, the music alone has me shaking in my boots.
