| I think it's really interesting how the roles reverse as far as how most whites views us and how blacks view whites. I thought it was funny how the blacks were the ones who were wealthy and owned everything and all the whites were in poverty and working for the black man.

I think this is based on "Putney Swope"...made in the '60s or '70s. I was lucky enough to rent it. Had heard about this movie forever.

Here's a little blurb below. It was directed by Robert Downey Sr. They basically treated white folks like dogs since the entire status quo was turned upside down.
Putney Swope: The boss of a large advertising agency suddenly dies. By mistake he is replaced by a black employee, Putney Swope. Since those who took part in the vote could not imagine that he would be elected, everybody voted for him. As a boss Putney Swope is ruthless and opportunistic. He fires all the white people in high positions and replaces them with militant Blacks. The agency is also renamed Truth and Soul, Inc. The response from Swope's obscene marketing is good and he is frequently hired by rich, white clients. He steals all his ideas and behaves as ruthlessly as his predecessor ever did. Putney Swope is a comedy, an unpleasant one. It attacks every aspect of society even the president, portrayed as a dwarf in the film. "To call the film undiciplined would be a considerable understatement." (D Wilson, Monthly Film Bulletin 1970) "Argumentativeness combined with originality and black humour is not a bad beginning." (Dagens Nyheter 1971) "Putney Swope is a controversial satire, mischievous and intellectually promiscuous." (Svenska Dagbladet 1971) "Putney Swope is vicious and vile, the most offensive picture I've ever seen. This one retched. If intelligent people must see it, take along your retch-bags." (Daily News 1969)

the film was rubbish imo
The problem with these films is that they give the idea that black people are below the lowest whites. I'm sorry, but we aint slaves, this simply does not hold true in the 90's. There are plenty of black people in decnt/ high positions earning nmore then whites. so straight off, the films premise is floored.
Baring that in mind I watched it and was just unimpressed

I haven't seen "white man's burden" but think Harry Belafonte is in it. Didn't make much of a splash when it debuted. Putney Swope was "something else". It was just a film I had heard about and always wanted to see for myself...like "Birth of a Nation".

It's just a badly made movie, but still worth seeing out of curiosity. I'm going to check Amazon for PS and rent WMB. Been planning to get Watts Stax since it's release last year.
