Was watching this the other day and realised how low profile a movie it is. With the storyline and quality of the acting it doesn't deserve to be.
Eric La'selle as a vietnam vet and drug addict?
Michael Beach as the druglord?
Sounds silly but they were great!
Was a GREAT movie. Don Cheedle's finest performance IMO... Monica Calhoon was good, Forest Whittaker was great as always... Good soundtrack too, the Stevie Wonder song at the end is moving...
For those who didn't watch it, it's about the man they call the GOAT, the one the professionals say was the best player who never made it. His rise and fall. Quite a sad movie, despit the good ending...
Eric Laselle directed this movie... does he do anymore? I didn't know Dr Benton had it down like that...

Did Don Cheadle play the Goat? Earl was definitely a legend around these parts. Would like to know more about his story. You have people coming from all over to play street ball on courts that made Earl famous.

great film......
made OUTSIDE of hollywood studio system..originally fro HBO films(cable tv)..
produced by eric lasalle. directed by forest whitacker..and starring don cheadle..
great example of talented people coming together..... not waiting for someone else to do something for them

on another note......there is a documentary about demetrius mitchell...called "Hooked"...about bay area basketball legend who had similiar problems....
