I downloaded the it... overall the film was good... but I kind of feel it went downhill and the director got lost.... but anyhow it still has one of the best fight scene I have seen in a while.....

Had it's moments, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece by any means. While all the old school kung fu flicks are genuinely funny, Kung Fu Hustle just tried too hard. I know it's meant to be silly, but it got to the point were it was so OTT that I just started to get annoyed instead of amused.

You just get the feeling that if Stephen Chow continues this very same formula in the next flick or two, it's gonna get mundane VERY quickly and his career is gonna come crashing down quite soon.

Most Kung Fu movies, if you watch them as an  arthouse moviefan, might seem OTT, cliched, and tired. After watching Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill seems OTT and cliched...I liked Kung Fu Hustle but it was overlong and the humour was too broad in places. The musicians though were seriously heavy.

I really enjoyed it,even though I was tired when I watched it,I couldn't sleep, because I was worried I would miss something important,I enjoyed films like " something something crouching tiger" but I feel like  the "bruce lee" style which I love has almost disappeared ,so I welcome kung fu hustle,its been a while since I've seen an unpredicatble film, foreign or western,bravo kungfu hustle,,;

As a kung fu film... this connoiseur says NO!

As a funny comedy.... yeah it's ok, not as funny as Shaolin Soccer but good enough to make me chuckle.

Obviously they didn't do there research properly.... one scene Morgan freeman went into a local SUPERMARKET to do some groceries.... funny enough he had it in a brown bag just like in America... I mean since when do they give out brown back in a local supermarketconfused3

The ending of House of the flying daggers was Soooo stupid that everybody in the cinema was groaning in annoyance when the supposedly dead people kept of getting up for one last word or act.  Cheesy and OTT.

Also what was the point of alluding to a civil war then not showing us anything?  Showing us the fake leader of the house of the flying daggers but not the real one?

That film irritated me!

Fair point, it wasn't indepth, but I enjoyed a couple of the fight scenes... it's no drunken master, one-armed swordsman et al but it was alright & I preferred it to Kung Fu Hustle...

DM agreed...it did cross my mind that the'dead person' should have remained that way as it threw me off & it dragged on a bit although I did lke the backdrops & contrasting colours..lol

If anybody wants to watch a REAL Kung Fu film, one I consider a true modern classic, watch BBC1 tonight after match of the day.

Fist of Legend is Jet Li's early 90s reinterpretation of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury but it is a far superior movie.

It's set during the time of the Japanese occupation of China.  It's great, theres a love story between the chinese guy and japanese girl and the divided loyalties and tensions that causes, a CSI like murder investigation, rivalry between the two leading fighting instructors at a martial arts school, An Evil Japanese soldier who is an amazing fighter, a noble samuri wrongly accused and framed and of course the action.

BUN HOLLYWOOD people THIS is what it's about right here!  No flying, no magic, no ridicolous SFX... pure fight action and proper storyline!

This is the sort of thing that makes DM love Kung Fu movies.

PS

Watch out for the blindfolded fight between the japanese girls uncle and jet li.

ITS ON NOW!:D
