I couldn't stop laughing. The movie was brilliant, Johnny Depp put on a hell of a performance. The concept was brilliant. I can't decide which was better: Willy Wonka or Batman Begins
I don't want to give too much away, but trust me the movie was great. You won't get bored. I want to go see it again.

| Timeline: I'm pleased the movie is great but I wonder why they needed to do a remake...Gene Wilder was in my view brilliant in the original version I just can't see the purpose of doing over again... It just seems to me that Hollywood has lost its originality...too many remakes for my liking its just flippin lazy film making..

I agree with your assessment of the influx of remakes. The same happens in music unfortunately. I liked this particular remake because it took me back to my childhood in a sense...but I was able to appreciate the movie more now because I'm older and able to focus my attention for longer spans of time and analyze it more closely. I can't be sure but I am almost certain that you will like Johnny Depp's performance better. He is funnier and practically neurotic lol. You literally forget that he is acting.

Its not out over here YET !!!
But I can't wait.
I heard that a remake was in the offing & thought just like kunjufu " Not another bloddy remake"
BUT
Then I head that Tim Burton was behind it & that Johnny Depp was playing Willy Wonker. Now to me if anyone was going to remake this move it had to be the two I have just mentioned.
From what I have seen it looks great.
It will need to go some though to beat my fav summer blockbuster Batman Begins !!

I saw it last night and you're right it was great! I was really surprised! I especially loved the fat German kid...he had me rollin He was definitely my favourite. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp did an amazing job with this movie! I haven't seen Batman Begins yet, but the friend I went with saw it and said the same thing as you...she couldn't decide which one was better.
Strange enough most of the people in the theatre were around my age...early twenties/teenagers and a few older folks. I think that I only saw a couple of kids.

He definitely had the best personality out of the group of kids lol.

That was the case when I went as well. (thank goodness because kids are loud and uninhibited)

| I wasnt to happy with the remake even though Johnny depp was really amazing and funny I didnt really c the point of remaking such a good film. Also I didnt like the ompa loompas, they didnt look as cute as they did in the other film and they only used 1 man.

I've seen brief clips of it and they made me laugh. I heard about Charlie's ankle swingers lolololol

I agree with Timeline, Willy Wonka was BRILLIANT. It's nothing like the sugar coated original. Johnny Depp was surprisingly very good as the mad Willy Wonka.
Overall, the film is worth going to see

I preferred Gene Wilders one.
I like Johnny Depp and rate him very highly on my actors list and he did do well here but I just wasn't into this film. Sometimes the oddness is too odd for me.
The kids were all good and played their roles well but I can't put my finger on it. Something just wasn't right.
The only thing that amused me was the lengths they went to showing the poverty of Charlie's family. Cabbage soup and thinned out as well LOL!! hole in the roof and snow coming in. Too funny!
Another Burton/Depp combination is due out soon, the "corpse bride" and I think it has most of the same cast from this movie, Helena Bonham Carter and so on. That might be worth watching.

Are some of you Brits being biased because the original was set in London?
If not, I'm sorry but I just had to ask lol.

I meant that the latest Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a Hollywood remake. I didn't think the original was a Hollywood/USA production but I could be wrong.

umm ok
I assumed the first was a Hollywood movie too or else why Gene Wilder? If it was British I imagine John Cleese or someone like that would have been Wonka.
I was comparing one Hollywood movie to another and I thought the earlier was better.

| Lol finally watched it. Those oompah loompahs gave me joke! They looked like lil red indians, they were so cute. Willy Wonka was funny, with the way he was treating everybody, like they were pieces of s**t. Charlie's ankle swingers had me in stitches, no one could understand why I was laughing when he was running home lolol
