Has n e body seen this visually stimulating film about a family of women who are descendants of African slaves. It's about the old and the young...the struggle between keeping alive the old traditions of the ancestors and taking on the new ways that the mainland (america) offers.

The film is amazing. It was filmed on a budget, so natural lighting was used and im sooo glad it was! The music is fantastic as well a combination of African drum beats/singing, flutes etc as well as the language spoken-not ur standard English.

I studied this film a while back so cannot remember everything but I loved it and connected with it-could understand why Nana Peazant wanted to hold on to her traditional way of living and connecting with the Spirit world.

If anybody else has seen this please feel free to share your views.

I saw the film and met the director, J Dash at University many (gulp) moons ago... she gave a fantastic talk.

Visually stunning, gorgeous and well textured... fantastic film niceone.gifniceone.gif   It reminded me of Mama Day (the novel)...

It's all about spiritual connectivity of generations and holding onto traditions and the song in our blood, especially if you are a woman, it will speak to you...

LOL...  I must say, I wondered what that meant :)

My problem with Color Purple is that is was going for the box-office tearjerker flick thing.  Daughters doesn't have the same feel to me.  I guess it appealed to me more as a student of film (at the time) and I think it's top rate for its budget.

Any other movie recommendations?

Continuing the topic of Daughters of the Dust who was your favourite character and why.

And what was ur favourite scene and why?

@BurningSpear

I have wanted to watch Eve's Bayou for a while now but have always forgotten to rent it. Will be doing that at the end of this month with a few other films.
