African American ones ,
the big budget ones can be stereotypical and patronizing i.e. Deliver us of from Eva,Beautyshop,Coming to America Have you done lost your mind? Coming to America was a brilliant movie, my brother and I still joke about that Soul Glo advert to this day! Yes they did take the p**s a bit but I'm sure even white people knew that it was joke and that Africans aren't really like that.
et all,
the good ones, are few and far between like Purple rain et all >
and then the down right b*llsh*t like the film called the barbecue,Infact has anyone seen that hideous film ,I'm so mad about it because I bought it in HMV,not even bootleg and it sooooooooooooo baaaadddddddd,I had to laugh, because I was so close to tears blktears

"No I haven't done lost my mind" So you liked (Coming to America) good for you ,but I know that as late as 1997,some white person in the UK still asked me if I had personal wild tigers and sh*t at home, maybe having an african name doesn't help me,but you're being extremely naive if you think white people understand like most black people that the film was satirical, even my cousin who went to america in the very early nineties was asked about if he travelled by elephants, the bl**dy cheek of them!

Would you lighten up up already!:D I was only kidding when I said 'have you done lost your mind'. That being said I honestly do not believe that 'Coming to America' did any fundamental disservice to blacks and the white people who asked you those questions were either retards or were being deliberately facetious as I am almost 100% sure that nobody black or white believes that 'Coming to America' was a serious film about Africans (it had Eddie Murphy in it for goodness sake). Any sensible person could see that it was a comedy and would not believe that Africans live like that and in any case I think that (CTA) comedy version of Africans is still better than the 'real' one depicting skinny Aids orphans with flies on their faces. Yes many black films embarrass us but that wasn't one of them.

Its hard to believe but I'm actually not agravated so easily ;) but this site has turned me into something else ,you never quite know who's being serious or messing around lol
If you weren't being serious then

Seriously though,Are you in the UK or the US,because my experience of the UK is something else,if I had a penny for the number of times I've heard,"I never thought black people could be so nice, quiet, understanding etc blah blah blah " I'd have Bill Gates on my speed dial,so I take such films with a fist of salt I have to say

Anti Black American problem about this topic. I Wonder Why soo many of you are sooo into Hip Hop . I am not concerned with it that much and i know many of African Americans are not either . It is mainly school children,Whites , Blacks who want to make a quick buck ,and people overseas are the only ones are soo obessed with Hip Hop culture. It does not offend me nor does not define me either.

This is my point; it's sad...no, it's PATHETIC that a culture as rich and diverse as ours here in the UK, feel the need to copy all things American gives it some semblance of authenticity.  We have our own unique stories to tell, and we all know about the not-so-positive effects that Hip Hop is having on our youths here in the UK. Live I said earlier, we may all share the same skin colour, but we are all different culturally, and that diversity must be protected in all it's forms in the form of entertainment.  Watch American movies by all means, but don't think that a Black British movie must be a US replica, as we all know, our experiences are as different as our skins are similar...

Whites also speak slang and make movies with them doing it and no one says a thing. They vulgar movies and make serious money and no one says nothing.

Yes, but those "white" movies are more diverse than the narrow subjects covered in US Black movies;
I totalally disagree and what Black Movies have you watched? I have a very diverse collection of Black Movies .
By the Way love British Films!!!!!

What films are these pall?  Please don't tell me you're talking period drama or the terrible, ethnically cleansed Notting Hill? ;) First of all I am a Woman and I like Mystery Movies and some Drama. We really don't get a Diversity of Movies from Overseas,so the movies mainly casts the Whites with some exception of One or Two Blacks, which is sad.

I am Black American and proud of it  ,and if you think we are in America just hanging around doing nothing then you don't know what is going on here. Things are not as easy in America as people make it sound. America is a very Cut Throat Country ,so I don't know Why you all think Racism and Classism is not an issue here when it is.

We know things aren't easy.  It's just that we don't want a self-fulfilling prophecy of us becoming a replica of the problems out there.  Don't understand the power of of influence that your culture (music, film etc) is having on us here in the UK.Look the White Man is doing it not the Blacks here . Most Blacks in the US are not even aware that alot of our entertainment go overseas.

Bend it like Bechman  is and mostly an Asian Film not Black. Here in America most Asians want nothing to do with Black American and want to be White.

My point is that this type of comedy, with a serious slant could have been made for little money here in the UK that would show the UK African/West Indian experience in exactly the same way it did for the Asian Community.

Regardless , no one should Blame us about the Entertainers from the Black Community are influencing Blacks Elsewhere because most of them are not aware like I have said before.

To me  this resistance from overseas is understandable, but it should not be a wedge to assume Black Americans have no Class or Culture based on what others have printed in various other Forms. Many of you are looking at it from a very Narrow scope, just like Blacks over here who  don't know about other Black Cultures because we are not exsposed to them, and some assume they are Superior because of it. The same thing that is happening with Blacks on this Website.Personally , I don't appreciate it and most Black Americans  who post here are not from my upbringing because I grew up in the Rural South not Inner City Northern or Western Culture, yet not much different .The diversity has to do with the fast past life of City Culture in the States and the exposure to alot of different things even though most Blacks in America do come from the Southern States though they migrated to other places.

I love many of our Black Films over here, yet they still fail to show Blacks focused on the Rural South  Community rather than City Culture, and Very Dark Women are not shown as much ,which is

a problem . Other than that I think we have diversity

in our movies. It seems like the UK only get a select few of our movies.

I am not ashamed of myself and nor should any Black American or any Black from overseas. That is why Oveseas Blacks must create their uniques stories so people can see them.
