Loved it... i thought the performance was absolutely brilliant. Nothing bits visual... i've read about what happened but even though it was just a film, watching how things unfolded in that country made the horror even more real for me.
I felt so much anger when the white UN guy told Paul... united nations wasn't coming because he was African and not even a ni**er... and the scene where the UN takes all the white guests from the hotel, leaving every African standing in entrance of the hotel with the rain pouring down.
Grrrrr let me not ruin it for the people who haven't seen the film yet...

Yea, the scene in the rain was probably my favorite. There are some other scenes I noticed in particular that I thought would be my favorite before I even finished the movie but I can't remember them. I liked the children singing on Wyclef Jean's 'Million Voices' but his part going on about "if there's a United States of America, why can't there be a United States of Afreeeca " seemed weird for a serious movie, but I still like him as an artist. I heard people talk about the UN and Western countries not intervening when they could have put an end to it but sub consciously I didn't really take it seriously or pay attention, it didn't really hit me until I saw this movie. This movie is one of my favorites, it was only a one day rental, but I'l probably rent it again later, or buy it if I can.

Brilliant film...very touching. I was aware of the atrocities in Rwanda as I remember watching the real footage of people being macheted to death when it occured.
What I didn't know and I've come to overstand since watching the film was why these two tribes were killing each other. To find out it had to do with white colonialist, made me so mad.......
One scene that stood out for me was when they were driving on the bumpy road along the river....what's even more harrowing was that you know these events actually took place.
I would recommend this film.......

I'm glad people were able to see the film and enjoy it for what it was......rather than the initial anger over the fact that Sophie is mixed race, and therefore shouldn't have been given the part.........................when you see the film, you know that she was perfect for the part and so was Don.
Til this day one of the most touching films I've ever seen.

We shouldn't expect the UN to help and we shouldn't expect the US to help.
Let's not for get the Senegalese, Ghanian, Tanzanian, Nigerian, and P*kistani soldiers from the UN who stayed and some even died trying to bring peace to Rwanda.
Respect to African countries that coordinate to help each other to stablize.

Hotel Rwanda was excellent. In the first 10 minutes of HR you immediately forgive Don Cheadle for that dreadful 'cockney' accent in Ocean's 11, lol. He played the part so convincigly that you forget he's an actor and think you're actually watching the real person. Sophie Okenodo also did well in playing the wife.
One of the most tense scenes was when the wife and children were almost slaughtered on the truck and Nick Nolte's character with a few others saved them and the other Tutsis from death.
I've read interviews from the real Paul Rusesubenga(sp?) and he was a real MAN, not a coward and he deserved to have his struggles portrayed on the big screen.
Definitely on a par with Schindler's list. Don't get it on pirate dvd, wait until it comes out because this film deserves your money.
9.5/10

I saw Hotel Rwanda and it was easily one of the best films of the year, it left such an impression on me...
I thought Don Cheadle was excellent although my Rwandan friend thought his 'rwandan' accent was funny. He was excellent; full of pathos, humour at times and totally escaped into Paul's story.
On the other hand, I thought Sophie Okonedo was horrible. Not on account of her mixed race ( I know plenty non mixed people who have that colouring ) but because her reactions were monotonous. She pursed her lips in that same boring way when she was frightened, sad, anxious, disappointed and fearful. She is one of my mentors cause we went to the same university and I want to be an actor, but she seemed to be acting rather than feeling there. The woman who played Ray's mom would have been excellent in this role: she has a presence ( that I want).
Kudos to an excellent black film, everyone should watch it.
Also, I take issue with the person who said that the conflict stemmed from white colonialists.... .. For how long will we escape the fact that BLACK people were killing black People? Regardless of colonialist ideologies, which were present in every society colonised and some even enslaved, this cannot be an excuse for this human atrocity. The UN failes us, but we also failed ourselves.

Great Movie! Informative, gritty without being too violent.

i'm rwandan and though i was young at that time, i will tell you them who shoot that movie obviously know nothing about rwandan society, they europeanised us too much (i know no rwanda family where the man comes from work, kiss his wife in the the front yard but it partly explain it when the guy tell his wife he's been naive say "they made me believe i was one of them and i did")
i think they should have shoot it in Rwanda (not in South Africa) and in Kinyarwanda and put subtitles, like for "The Passion"
and still that goal of the western media to portray africa as a failure in all fields:
this photo is the real "Hotel Des Mille Collines" in Kigali, the hotel where the story took place, not that lousy guest house in the movie (can you compare?)

Just finished watching this, another fine performance from Cheadle.
It was harrowing yes, but also weirdly uplifting at the same time.
My two favourite scenes are the one where Cheadle makes a little candlelight oasis on the roof for him and his wife, its all very sweet and romantic in the midst of all this massacre and then he proceeds to tell his wife what he wants her to do should they be captured by the Hutu.
And then the other scene which-,well I guess favourite is the wrong choice of word-affected me was when Cheadle and the "Judas" are driving back from picking up supplies and then the road gets ridiculously bumpy.
That ish was extra strength!
