Ok I'm going to be the first to say it openly, I think the gunners are beginning to look like a championship team in the making.....Remember we have Senderos, Lauren ans Clichy to come back into defence, to add to what is beginning to already look like a formidable Black line of Eboue, Toure, Gallas and Diabe...
Note I haven't even touched on Gilbert or Hoyte yet....
Then you take our midfield.... Ricky, and Hleb are begining to gel, then you have Ljunbung, Fabregas, Flamini Gilberto and the BEAST..yet to find form and bwoy things are looking promising... Song has yet to find his feet
But wait...I haven't talked about, Henry, Van (screamer) Persie, Adebyor, Walcott..and lets remember Walcott hasn't warmed up yet....I think he will be another Henry/Anelka in the pipeline.....
and Lets not forget we still have Mad puss Lehman in goal...
I think Arsenal haven't got into their stride yet and someone is due a good arsing from the Gunners very soon.....
**and in case thier is any lingering doubt, I think we got the BESt end of the Cashley cole/Gallas deal....what a steal Gallas was..stupis stupid Chelsea..Arsene must have wet himself laughing getting that player plus 5 million...in exchange for cashley...

I was wondering the same thing especially since Gallas is already scoring goals for us LOL How many times did Ashey (no spelling mistake) run aimlessly forward for us? Gallas creates and is decisive on the shots he takes and is not lightweight and can battle. The goofy part about this? He has the wight and class to neutralize Drogba. What was momo thinking?
We are starting to hit our stridde but we need to get Henry rested fully. Our young strikers are coming up though. Not sure how we will do in the rough and tumble EPL, but I think we are built for Europe, but if we play like we have started to, we will be back in the CL again next year. I just wonder if the kdis can stay interested in winning a league title long enough. Still trying to figure out where Baptista fits in with us.

I'm really blown away with the turnaround in confidence in everyone since we got that win at Old Trafford. Only 3 weeks ago people were making very diserespectful comments which were just not justified. But I feel we do need to remind ourselves of our situation, and this is the source of why I believe we will finish somewhere in the top 4, but a fair way behind Chelsea.
We have a really promising 1st team squad, but no depth. Everyone is on form at the moment, confidence is high and we are on a good run. Fast forward a few weeks and the clocks go back and our form traditionally takes a dive.
When all is said and done, we don't have a squad capable of challenging for the title. Chelsea have started eratically and I think most would agree they deserve to be somewhere near the foot of the table considering how they have played thus far. But this is the problem. They are playing badly and yet are within shooting distance. You really have to worry once Shevchenko hits form, and he is genuine quality so he will find his form, its just a question of when it will happen. They also have strength in depth, which is something we really cannot compete in.
Last Wednesday I was delighted when we beat Porto, but straight afterwards I was more worried about Gallas being injured. He really has been the changing factor because we don't look a soft touch at the back anymore and hes so quick. I was so worried when I feared he would be out for weeks. And this is the problem. We lose Gallas, or Lehmann, or Toure, or Fabregas, Gilberto, we really have got problems for cover in these areas. If anything happens to any of these players, we are in trouble.
And we will get injuries.
I like Clichy but hes got a very poor injury record. I am concerned he may just become a bit part player. Rumour is he will be given to Christmas to make a case for making the left back slot his own, if not Wenger is gonna raid Europe in January for a left back to come in.

| NorthLondon49er: Whilst I was a bit dingy about our chances this season, I never dissed Arsenal.... However looking at their form and the players still to come into the side..I'm predicting big tings for the Gunners this season and the next...

| I would say we can go on to big things this season, and in Europe we have some unfinished business. I really do think we can go all the way, and even Chelsea can be got at in a one-off scenario as their average cup form has shown since Moaninho arrived. But the Premiership is theirs because they will still be the only ones to get more than 90 points. Its become the benchmark now and a sign that the bar has been well and truly raised. In all the years of our duels with SAF they got more than 90 once, and us once as well. Ours occurred when we had that amazing season going unbeaten, something that happens once in a lifetime another words. Chelsea have a quality replacement for every position, which is something none of anyone of the rest can boast. Chelsea have racked up more than 90 points for each of the last 2 years.

| Northlonder49er: good points however I think Chelski have over reached themselves this season....I suspect their squad is going to become very unhappy very soon about not getting first team football on a regular basis... We can see the Joe Cole might be out by Jan 07, Wayne Bridge has to feel hard done by..given his form and Cashley Coles patchy form to date... How is Mourinho going to play Lamp's, robben , Essien, Makele, Ballack and Wright Phillips and still maintain a balance... Nope I think Chelski might become unstuck this time round...

I agree about the disharmoney because that is starting to spread like wildfire. But they have been dealing with Robben's tantrums since he first arrived, and Joe Cole is a luxury as opposed to a neccessity. Not sure how the rest will pan out, but to me it looks ominous that they have played so badly and yet are so close to the top. It would be encouraging for us all to think that it could be like a domino effect and the whole empire will come crashing down, but I'm not sure its that clear cut.
There is a spitefulness which shines through their transfer policy. Its usually a case of they want someone to stop anybody else having him, rather than actually finding someone to serve their own means. This will only continue should players leave in January. If the stories are true that the West Ham takeover is collapsing, then the Argentines are on their way shortly after the decorations come down. Where to remains a mystery, but who else would be able to place down large payments up front? The release clause rumours are legendary, but in any case you are looking somewhere in excess of £40m for the pair. Only Chelsea could do this.

You've got a point there about the luck K, they have had so much luck over the last 2 seasons its untrue. It has to end sometime, but when?
If Im honest K the only thing that gives me hope is that somewhere after 5 successive titles, this Roman is gonna get bored. Maybe he will sell up and and move into Formula 1 or something else. When he does Chelsea don't have the infrastructure to survive in their current state.

Why is Chelsea a joke Kunjufu? Roman brought in cash and players and now has two EPL titles.Thats damn good if you ask me.
I told you'll in 04 that there will be an influx of billionaire into the EPL and it slowly happening.Expect Villa to improve also.

Burning Spear: chelski are a joke team, because their house is built on sand and it simply can't last... If you compare them to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man UTD, Arsenal..the common factor is that these teams have built up a whole infrustructure to support their continued existence..this includes bigger grounds to be financially viable, a youth squad and a culture...
No forgive me but Stamford Bridge cannot sustain the millions paid in wages or on players, the number of overpriced players brought negate having a youth squad...and worse..what would be the contingency if roman kack it? Chelski is just here forbthe beer, but when that done so will they...

| @ Kunjufu - its so true what you say- otice chelsea haven't really brought anyone through the ranks for a good few seasons where as the other teams have. Why they are doin another seaosn of that "look for a token English kid" for a contract show on sky I have no idea. Either chelseas youth squad doen't cut it in the leagues or they've overpaid for them as well. A few years down the line wil get interesting. We can already see man u and arsenals next batch - more so arsenal and maybe even liverpool's coming through bit by bit. Abramovich owns CSKA moscow so who knows maybe when ballack and Co are done in two seasons and off to Qatar or MLS for a last fat paycheck or Mourinho leaves because he has no say in the players anymore and half the squad leave on the cheap (maybe he latter was an exaggeration) but then they may have to scrap with everyone in an equal fight. Arsenal have a solid squad without breaking sweat in the transfer market. Chelsea paid £16 million to united so they could steal another one from united's hitlist i.e. obi mikel which promptly got splashed. Business is business but Robben, Essien, obi mikel, possibly ballack is a bit much.

lol K. of course Chelsea are a joke. There was more fans at West Ham's UEFA Cup home game than Chelsea's Champions League home match against Bremen! If they can't fill that stadium as double Champions of England, how on earth are they going to survive when they begin life after Roman. No fans, no identity, no history.
NO FUTURE

Reading 0-4 Arsenal
By Caroline Cheese
Alexander Hleb combined with Tomas Rosicky for Arsenal's second
Arsenal moved up to fourth in the Premiership after a sparkling display.
Thierry Henry needed only 58 seconds to score Arsenal's first goal at the Madejski Stadium, the striker stroking home Cesc Fabregas' precise pull-back.
Alexander Hleb doubled the lead after exchanging passes with Tomas Rosicky and Robin van Persie finished another fast-flowing move after half-time.
Thierry Henry converted a penalty after Marcus Hahnemann's foul on Fabregas as Arsenal completely outclassed Reading.
Interview: Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas
Interview: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
Interview: Reading boss Steve Coppell
With title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea both wrapping up victories before Arsenal had kicked off, the Gunners were under pressure to secure the three points to keep them in touch.

606: DEBATE
Arsenal's style of football is capable of ripping opponents to shreds
FA
606: Have your say
They wasted little time in stamping their authority on the game, the first league meeting between the two sides.
Fabregas received the ball on the right, nonchalantly brushed aside James Harper's challenge and cut the ball back for Henry to score his 168th Premiership goal.
The sublime goal set the tone for a sumptuous attacking display from the Gunners. Henry and Fabregas combined again after five minutes but Reading defender Ivar Ingimarsson was alert to the danger and smothered the teenager's shot.
Reading threatened an unlikely equaliser through Seol Ki-Hyeon but Jens Lehmann tipped over the South Korean's fierce volley - and Arsenal were soon 2-0 ahead.
Hleb collected Tomas Rosicky's return pass and blasted the ball off Hahnemann's arm and into the roof of the net. Had Van Persie been less selfish, Arsenal might even have been further ahead at the interval.
The Dutch striker twice went for goal with his team-mates screaming for the ball, while he also blazed a free-kick over the bar. Steve Coppell opted for a change at half-time, Brynjar Gunnarsson replacing Ulises de la Cruz at right-back but within four minutes of the restart, the Reading boss watched in horror as the hosts' defence was sliced open again.
Hleb collected Henry's through ball and cut it back for Van Persie to slot home.
Reading, for whom striker Shane Long made a first Premiership start, were in danger of being overrun but, to their credit, they kept their heads up.
Coppell's side even came close to a goal when Stephen Hunt shot over but Arsenal hit back immediately.
Fabregas was clearly caught by Hahnemann as he bore down on goal and Henry coolly converted the penalty to make it 4-0. With 20 minutes still left to play, the Gunners relaxed, allowing Reading some long spells of possession, but the hosts could not find a consolation as an in-form Arsenal posted their fifth successive league win.

Fabregas signing was great news, and his loyalty is a boost for everyone. And yesterday was exceptional. I am a little annoyed by the media suddenly turning Reading into some kind of withering outfit, coming so soon after they ran Chelsea close and took a point off Utd. We ripped them to shreds and suddenly Reading are timid. Never occurred to anyone that maybe we just made them look poor.
We've got our tails up and everyone is flying. But like a shadow of doom, I have to point out whats around the corner. After hosting Everton on Saturday, we have to go to West Ham and then host Liverpool. Both are shocking at the moment, but equally both are due big performances and we may just get caught up. Newcastle and Bolton also figure in a testing November, and waiting for us to round off a difficult 6 weeks will be Spurs which is never straight forward.
So the champagne stuff has been fun, but now we need to show some real determination and keep going at a time of year (the clocks go back this weekend!) when we always seem to struggle. With the exception of Utd and less so Villa & Boro, we haven't really faced a test yet. But that will change in the coming weeks and this will be the acid test. If we can stay within 5 points (or better) by the time we face Wigan in mid December for our game in hand, then we can start thinking seriously about a title challenge. If we drop points and Utd and Chelsea keep going, then its not going to be easy reaching Wigan 10-12 pts off the lead. This is the biggest stage of our season now, 6 weeks starting next Wednesday which will define our season. Will we be settling for a top four finish, or making a genuine claim for the title?
We will soon find out

Northlondoner..Hmm see your point however if I may can I point out a few things like..
Senderos...on the way back (needs match fitness)..
Lauren..on the way back..
Clichy..Needs match fitness...
Walcott...Super sub at the moment..
Hleb and Rosicky On fire..
and Need I state THE signing of the season GALLAS.....he makes our back solid...someone will need something out of the top draw to beat him, Toure and others...
Adebayor on the sidelines..got pace and can score if only he would show some composure...
Methinks those aforementioned teams ought to be quaking in their boots...I'll say it again Arsenal are looking tasty....

Absoloutely K, we have many returning and this will only benefit the squad because we still lack the cover at the moment. Eboue out for 4/5 weeks, Lauren still some way off, Hoyte is the last throw of the dice (for right back) in many ways. Not that he has let us down of course, he has done well, but you can see his crossing is not of the same standard of Eboue or Lauren. But thats not so significant since it was barely 2 months ago that the same was said about Eboue, so it just shows how quickly these kids can improve!
A lot has happened since this thread started, and I feel the events at the Majedski a couple of weeks ago made the race interesting. Chelsea are still the favourites, but they are no longer carrying that aura of invincibility. Just one player, but so soon after losing Gallas, this is a body blow for the Chelsea back line.
We can only do what we do and this is what we are doing, but I always felt that Chelsea with Cech was a different proposition to what we have now. They are no longer unbreakable, and they will concede now. Thats important, especially when you consider how many matches they have sneaked 1-0 with Cech in goal this season. I wouldn't exactly say that without Cech they will slide down the table, because they are still the ones to beat; but thats the difference now, they do look like they can be got at, and thats encouraging not just for us, but for all Premiership fans as it means the race will be much closer now.
That said, this is still the crucial stage now and we must not drop any silly points. We have got some great momentum going now and everyones tails are up, you could even see it rubbing off on the youths tonight against West Brom. Many of whom have not even figured for us this season, yet they all played with a swagger tonight and a style which has been a trademark of the last 4/5 weeks.
On another note can I just say how happy I am that West Ham lost tonight to Chesterfield, it looks as if Pardew's reign as Hammers manager is coming to an end. This is poetic justice. His comments earlier this year were disgraceful, and this is a sweet moment for those of us Arsenal fans who were so upset by his spiteful rant about our international personnel. He accused us of losing our soul, well atleast Mr Wenger still has a job lol
So Mr Pardew, don't forget to thank your English boys when you collect your P45

Bye Bye Pards....2-1 lost to chesterfield...you could almost hear his groan as the second goal went in...LOL

So true K, we never get credited for generating English talent for other teams. That Reading game on Sunday was like an Arsenal reunion, 2 English, 1 Irish. No credit for creating 2 established English Premiership players.
By all accounts that new kid Denilson looked good as well this evening. And I just seen Aliadiere's 2nd goal which was a picture as well. Wenger's kept a lot of faith in him when others have been let go. I thought the writing was on the wall when he went on loan but hes back and could be knocking on the door up front again.

NorthLondoner: have you heard Aliadiere's speak...I was shocked I thought he'd be French sounding..not a bit of it..he sounds like he was dragged right out of Tottenham..LOL.. Completely agree I thought he was going the way of that other player..who went to Charlton ( forgot his name)....
