Liverpool VS Chelsea Charity Shield Match K.O. 3.00pm 13 August 2006.
Another trophy in the cabinet i suppose. This match will be interesting as Chelsea do have a minor chance in stopping us from winning the Premiership this year.

My line up for today.
-----------------------------------Reina------------------------------
---------Finnan-------Hyypia--------Carragher--------Riise-----
-------Pennant------Gerrard-------Alonso-----------Gonzalez-
-----------------------Garcia---------Bellamy----------------------
Chelsea are favourates to win, but now that we have more width we are more capable of causing an upset.

Jose mourinho : "I still believe that Man United and Arsenal will be the biggest threat, in spite of the fact Arsenal finished fourth and Liverpool third. They will still be the better teams.
"I say that because of the quality of their football, the way they play,
2-1 FT
Outplayed yet again
f**k off Chelsea!!

I was thinking the same thing Rafa.
We out played them today. Murinhos overlooking we now have the depth of squad to win the premiership. We also have a few more additions on the way. Kuyt from Feynoord being the icing on the cake.
Arsenal, and Man U are threats of course but we play ball now also, a passing game and we've always defended better than all of those teams. Which part of our game today was long ball, boring football. In fact it was Chelsea who relied on the long ball toady up to Shevchenko. It was their only tatic they had. Our midfield is strong like an ox now, with Sissoko who outplayed Essien toady. When our strikers develop that 'telepathy' amongst them we will be unstoppable.

@Le Moor
I dont know where people get this notion that we're a boring team- i bet you not so many people watch us play - they go along with what the papers say
Last season we played some great football
The way we controlled the game(esp in the first half) with No Xabi or Gerrard- just amazing!!
ok, i know its only a community shield - but its good that we're back to our winning ways - no sloppiness
Agger played well also - i think we're gonna see less of Hyypia next season( a legend btw)
John Terry is sh*t!! England captain my hairy arse!!
Chelsea minus Gallas, Makelele, Gudjohnsen = shockingly Average - its true- today proves this!!
Their long ball tactic was never going to work - Huth is gone
I hear from sources that Kuyt signed already - and might be unveiled on Thursday- lets pray and hope
PS: Sissoko was immense - why do people even compare him to Vieria?

So Andy Gray thinks we're boring - we must be boring then!!
you see, that is where the problem lies
Watch us play, then maybe you'd realise we're not boring
PS: Anfield?

I've watched Liverpool play plenty of times....above average at best I'd say. You need to start playing really good football against teams that aren't that good for a start. Playing well against only Chelsea, Man Utd, and Arsenal isn't going to cut it. Now that Liverpool have reached that level, other teams will just try and shut you out, and try to stop you playing. Playing good football against teams like that are what win you championships. Chelsea are dull to watch granted, but they rarely mess up against teams they should beat.

Sorry Peace, you've lost me bro
One hand you say playing good football against sh*tty teams also- is what wins you championships - then you went on to acknowledge Chelsea play dull but hardly mess up against small teams - that kind of defeats your whole argument doesnt it? Chelsea proved you can win Championships playing sh*tty football against both big and sh*tty teams? whats your point?
Besides thats irrelevant - all our games in the FA Cup last season -werent boring - Luton 3-5, Birmingham 0-7, Portsmouth 1-2
We played some good football in the league too when we went 9-10 games unbeaten
I can only think of one boring game last season - and that was against blackburn away!!
Tell me which game it was you found boring - then maybe i'd understand where you're coming from

Let's hope we see more of these scenes from these young men. Decent game Sissoko was the best midfielder on the park today, fat Frank was missing. One of the reasons he's not at the moment in my fantasy team, think either this season or next he'll do an Scholes and lose his goal scoring touch. Captain En-ga-land looked vulnerable without Gallas and Cech, good to see. This however proves nothing as Liverpool as just Chelsea's bogey side, once Ballack settles in and also Kalou who looks useful not forgetting Shevchenko they will be dangerous. Chelski look to have too many very good to excellent midfielders under the shadow of a fat average one (think Obi Mikel will spend more time on the bench then he thought)

You're not as good as you think you are. Dull football isn't always sh*t tactically, as Chelsea have shown.

Chelsea overall are better than you., they can afford to be dull. Good football can be dull too you know. It's just when Liverpool play dull football, they don't win, why? they ain't good enough.
Besides thats irrelevant - all our games in the FA Cup last season -werent boring - Luton 3-5, Birmingham 0-7, Portsmouth 1-2

400 MILLION WAS IT!!!!!!!!!!
BALLACK WENT OFF CRYIN COS HE BRUISED HIS HAIR!! NOW HE GONNA MISS THE START OF THE SEASON......YEAH MONEY WELL SPENT!
Sissoko is definately growing o me, I actually think he is going to be an indispensable player for liverpool - wicked snatch. His game is way above average now and he is still improving.
Riises' goal, contender for goal of the pre-season!!!
QUOTE JOSE 'MOAN' INHO:
"Liverpool had more intensity and pace, qualities that make a team better. They had that and we didn't.
"We had a big percentage of the ball possession, but Liverpool defended with intensity and looked dangerous when they counter-attacked.
"I keep saying they are a difficult team to beat and they can go to every game with an ambition to win."

I dont know about kuyt! He has a big reputation in Holland, and with some of the Feyenoord games i saw him play i have to say i was impressed. He was physically strong which would make him suitable to the premiership and his finishing was clinical. My skeptism occured about his performances in the world cup however. He didnt play so well granted he did play one of those games on the left wing against argentina.

You said Liverpool need to play good football against teams that arent as good as Chelsea, Man U & Arsenal -
1)You said playing good football against crappy teams wins you championships - re-read your post
Then you brought up Chelsea
Chelsea play dull(you yourself acknowledged)
But then they won back to back championships playing dull
Hence defeats point 1
You're not as good as you think you are. Dull football isn't always sh*t tactically, as Chelsea have shown.
Again, Im not quite sure what you're trying to prove here -
On one hand you say Liverpool need to play good football - then you say Chelsea playing dull football is considered good tactics
Chelsea overall are better than you., they can afford to be dull.
Chelsea overall- were better than the rest of the premiership - not just Liverpool - hence Champions for 2 seasons
Beating them in a cup tie doesnt change this fact
Beating them proves, we're more than capable in matching them over a course of a season
We've a stronger squad now, and are more equipped to challenge Chelsea all the way
They lost Duff, Gudjohnsen and now most likely Gallas, Wayne Bridge
They're going to be left with a squad full of mercenaries who're only there for the money - or in Schevchenko's case to learn English
they cant afford to be dull you said ???
they have no other alternatives - they cant play good football!
!
they never did ever since the Ranieri era
It's just when Liverpool play dull football, they don't win, why? they ain't good enough.
We were never dull last season
Besides thats irrelevant - all our games in the FA Cup last season -werent boring - Luton 3-5, Birmingham 0-7, Portsmouth 1-2
Not boring no, they were sh*t.
If we're not sh*t, then we're boring
If we're not boring, then we're sh*t -
Make your mind up!!
What is the point of telling a fan eh? You've even named yourself after the manager. I've got a better chance of talking sense into a terrorist.
Ok, thats fine
I'll stop
Im just telling it how it is - and i base this on watching football on either TV or in a live game
People say we're boring only because so called experts like Andy"Benfica would get relegated in the premiership" Gray say so - or go along with whats said in the papers
In the same way people think Bolton are boring when in reality they play some good football and yet not so many people give them credit for it - hence costing Allardyce the England job
Spurs made so many English signings and automatically got this tag of being a team that play good attacking football when in reality, Wigan Athletic play far more attractive .
YOu say we're not as good as we think we are -
This i believe, coming from an Arsenal fan
Comedy Genius!!

Derby County supporter actually(naturally I'd support the city where I was born), I just like Arsenal, have done for awhile....they're entertaining to watch, even when they lose, unlike some teams.
Again...with added help comments.
I've watched Liverpool play plenty of times....above average at best I'd say. You need to start playing really good football against teams that aren't that good for a start. Playing well against only Chelsea, Man Utd, and Arsenal isn't going to cut it. Now that Liverpool have reached that level, other teams(the ones Liverpool should beat) will just try and shut you out, and try to stop you playing. Playing good football against teams like that (aka tactically good, and not just going out there expecting to win by default) are what win you championships. (aka against negative playing teams) Chelsea are dull (aka not all flair and guile) to watch granted, but they rarely mess up against teams they should beat. (Because they're tactically sound)
Besides you only beat Chelsea because the keeper f**ked up.
Understand? no probably not.
What you can't understand about that I don't know, but considering that thread where you were supporting the police shooting that Brazilian in London it's not too surprising.
So I'll waste no futher time.

Get over yourself.
And try and spell integrity correctly next time.
How thick are you really?
You still can't use the capital "I" regardless of being told so many times..
But now Le Moor since you so desire my attention, be prepared for it.
I'll enjoy ripping you to pieces time and time again.

The way we controlled the game(esp in the first half) with No Xabi or Gerrard- just amazing!!
ok, i know its only a community shield - but its good that we're back to our winning ways - no sloppiness
Agger played well also - i think we're gonna see less of Hyypia next season( a legend btw) I hope not! Hyppia must stay!
Long leg tackles and skill.
Well to me you guys are going to win it all because of the two acquisitions Bellamy and Pennant. Bellamy gives you that striker that can take a defender 1v1 and get off a great shot on goal plus th speed to get past many of them. Something the 'pool has not had in a while. Pennant who to me was the player of the year last year as he beat many double teams to swing in crosses to the ambiguously playing duo of Heskey and Mikel for Birmingham that were rarely ever finished. This is the perfect partner for Crouch and Bellamy as he can play the ball in the air or on the ground. I watched no telling how many Birmingham games last season (forced to as they seemed to always be on) and Pennant only disappointed once but he seemed to have a cold or something as he was hacking away. I am an Henry fan and even though Henry scored the goals Pennant was unlucky in that he played for a relegated team with two imposters posing as strikers. I know he had to be the top crosser in the league and rarely could the keeper make a grab as most were striker playable.
Still hats off to Liverpool because Chelsea was ***** slapped as MOMO tried to say that his squad was at half strength in the loss, but he had his two world class signees on the pitch and the England captain. You can call that Riise strike a mistake but Riise hits rockets and for him to have acres to run the full pitch unchecked and hit that shot was the fault of Essien and the Chelsea defense for not turning him toward the line. They damned near rolled out the red carpet for him on that goal. I don't think a keeper in the EPL could have stopped that shot with that speed and dip at the last second. All Essien and Terry's fault no matter how anyone looks at it as that shot should have never been allowed to be taken. Glad they beat the game killers
