The first Images of Black Women film featival takes place from the 4th to the 6th of March 2005 at the Tricycle Theatre, 269 Kilburn High Road NW6.

The brainchild of Betty Sulty-Johnson and Sylviane Rano, two African Caribbean women driven by their passion for cinema and the desire to create a niche within the industry for films created by, or featuring African Caribbean women from across the globe, Images of Black Women Film Festival aims to increase people's knowledge of black women's roles in cinema, and to raise the profile of African Caribbean women in front of the camera and behind the lens.

In association with Focus West, a project aimed to support the development of inner West London's existing media cluster, the festival will feature films from the UK, Canada, the US and Senegal, as well as a powerful documentary on the experiences of African American filmmakers. There will also be a short film competition, celebrity Q&A, and a talk with the most influential Black Women filmmakers in Europe - including the festival's international patron Euzhan Palcy (award-wimming director of Black Shack Alley and A Dry White Season), and the festival's UK patron Amma Asante, the BAFTA nomiated rising star who recently won the Times Breakthrough Artist of the Year for her first feature film A Way of Life. Images of Black Women Film Festival wamts to encourage more African Caribbean women to enter and sustain a presence in the film industry where ther are very few women from minority groups.
