If you have nothing nice to say, why bother post? its your time/energy your wasting.  I just thought i would share some good news, since a few people might remember a similar post i made a coupke if months ago when i passed my other two skills tests.  I am required to pass these tests in route to qualifying as a teacher.  They are very important and very difficult.  So i thought i would share.  So in answer to your question, no i don't want a medal.  Did you want one for your bad minded sarcasm?  *cough* asshole

Thanks  Jett!!! ICT is just the (relatively) new term for IT, stands for information communication technology.  I failed it the first time because i was so skip happy i passed the other two.  particulalrly the math one, as i am crap at it!  so i got all cocky when it came to the ICT and ended up failing by something like 2 or 3 marks:P  The tests consist of english, maths and ict and are among the many things that must be passed/completed before i  can become a qualified teacher.

blkscholar  Congratulations and well done. Good for you.  I'm just finishing off my Ba and really stressed with writing my dissertation plus 3, 000 essay on teaching and working full time.  I'm working as an unqualified teacher this year and starting the GTP in Sep, so will also have to do the skills test.  Don't you think they are an insult especially when you have already passed English and maths?

considering you have to have english and math gcse, plust take literacy and numeracy tests before you tart the course, yes they are a TOTAL insult!!  by the way i heard the GTP was really stressful as you are basicaly on the job AND doing the course at the same time, whereas a pgce is two placements of a few weeks each.  I tried out for the goldsmiths GTP but they recomended i do a pgce, i guess because of my age.

the course is only from sept to june, so i am about half way  through it.  I will go on to teach primary, maybe KS1 (5-7)  though i wish i now did secondary, as primary is so much harder.  You have to know alot about EVERY subject and the children are more dependant on you. whereas with secondary you onyl have to know 1 and it is usually one you are good at or interested in and the kids are more independant (and facety!!)

The stress of the GTP doesn't worry me as I am already in school anyway, doing planning, IEPs the lot.  I can't afford to give up work to do the PGCE.  How are you getting on with your teaching practice?  I work in a special school and will have to do a term in a mainstream school which will be very different to say the least.  Good luck and well done once again.

my teaching practice was very stressful  (long distance to school, less then four hours sleep a night, top set year six) and put me right off the proffession!! but you are better placed as you have so much experience already.  I am actually better off doing my pgce than i was working (i was working part time tho)  i get the £6000 bursery and a £1000 grant which don' tneed to be repaid plus a loan for £3485 which isn't repayable until april 2006 and then only if i am earning at least £10000.  The most they will require me to repay is £70 per month but there is obviously the option to repay more than that, which i will (assuming i get a job lol)

blkscholar  Thank you.  This may sound corny, but I don't always visit this site, (only usually when I'm procrastinating!!), but when I logged on the other day, I went straight to this forum- which again I very rarely do -  and read your good news.  It's really cheered me up as the last few months of studying have been a hard slog.  So your news has been a real inspiration and it must have been a sign to me to keep going.  Someone's obviously watching over me.

I truly believe someone is watching over you, as someone is watching over me.  Funnily enough, reading your last post has done for me what my original post did for you(!)  After my last placement i was so very discouraged from wanting to teach at all.  But today i went to find the school where my second placement will be and it lifted my spirits a little.  I didn't actually go in, because i was just practising the journey, but it is much nearer than the other one, which means i won't have to get up as early which means i won't be a zombie while teaching!! i am also with a younger age group.  Year 2 HAS to be easier than top set year 6 right?!?!  Plus it looks like a big modern school which is good.  As much as i like those old Victorian schools (went to one myself)  they can seem a lil depressing compared to their more modern counter parts.  Lets hope expectations live up to first impressions!!

And Good luck to you on your course!  niceone.gif Me personally have never generated so much paper!! I have at least two trees worth to recycle now that my first placement is over!
