A leading anti-gun campaigner today insisted: "There can be peace in Birmingham."
Speaking out as she prepares to head one of the nation's largest peace tours, Gleen Reid, of Mothers Against Guns, renewed her personal pledge to see the city's streets purged of firearms.
Ms Reid has chaired the organisation after her 28-year-old son Corey was shot outside Oaklands Community Centre, in Handsworth, four years ago.
The Peace Tour will involve concerts in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Nottingham and London.
Ms Reid, from Aston, said: "This is the best time to talk about peace, especially as all eyes are on Birmingham because of the shooting trial.
"We used to have peace in the city. What's happened to it? I believe we can have it again."
The tour will start in Nottingham on March 3 and is intended to come to Birmingham later that month.
The Cheeky Girls, Michelle Gayle and bands from the X-Factor TV programme, 2 To Go and Voices With Soul, all plan to perform in Nottingham.
The stars for the Birmingham date have not yet been confirmed.
Organisers also hope to organise a gun amnesty where weapon-toting youngsters can hand over their firearms.
Ms Reid said: "This would be a new way of getting weapons off the streets. Most of these kids who carry weapons have mothers and we hope that because of this, they will listen to us.
"It'll work because it will be our way of appealing to those who carry weapons."
Ms Reid organised a major peace concert in Birmingham last year and marched on Parliament calling for a ban on the sale of replica weapons and tougher sentences for gun crimes.

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80 million.
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand! Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention
