Do Not Miss These Films

Greetings!
On Saturday 7th August we will be once again screening one of the most requested, emotive and controversial film we have ever shown 'Blue Eyed/Brown Eyed'. A stunning documentary about how White people become racist towards Black people and how Black people become racist against themselves. Blue Eyed/Brown Eyed will be followed by another controversial film 'Rabbit Proof Fence'. These two films together will cover areas such as self esteem, family loss and bereavement, family roles, racism, goal setting, gender roles and Black history. This screening will be a learning experience for all who attend.
Blue Eyed/Brown Eyed & Rabbit Proof Fence
DATE: Saturday 7th August 2004
TIME: Doors open 12.30pm Presentation 1.00pm - 2.00pm
LOCATION:Museum of London, London Wall EC2
BLUE/EYED/BROWN EYED - Filmed in Australia this stunning (2001 )documentary is about how white people become racist towards black people and how black people become racist against themselves. In this acclaimed workshop on prejudice blue eyed and brown eyed adults are treated completely differently for just two hours. At the end of the session their performance, attitudes and feelings are examined for any change.. Rarely shown to the general public this film clearly depicts the psychological effects of being in a minority and being bombarded with negative, stereotypical images. The results are amazing. RABBIT PROOF FENCE - How would your community be affected if your children were kidnapped, taken thousands of miles from home, forced to work as a servants, and made to deny and/or dislike their skin colour, language, history and culture? Would this have any effect on a community decades later? This actually happened to thousands of black children in Australia until the 1970's. This is a true story of the efforts of three children who are kidnapped by the government and placed in a prison to be made into servants for white Australians. They escape, and attempt to walk 1500 miles across the desert to get back to their people. This award winning drama covers themes of identity, family and explains why history is so important to a people. http://www.bbc.co.uk/films/2002/10/16/rabbit_proof_fe nce_2002_review.shtml

In Australian, Aborgonies would be considered Black. Regardless, they as a people/race have suffered at the hands of White people just the same as Black people have, so I guess their story would be something we as black people could identify with.

Regardless of whether they are considered black are not there are some importnat lessons in the film about oppression, resistance, resilience and rebellion, and the search for just treatment as a human being.
There is no doubt that the original people of the land we now call Australian have experience ruthless exploitation and oppression at the hands of...yes you guessed it,

Wow that's really great to see a chapter of 100 Black Men abroad...I guess I was ignorant but I thought the organization only had chapters in the United States...I'm in the Collegiate Chapter of 100 Black Women at the University of NC at Charlotte. Good Luck with all you're doing
