Many new posters may not realize that less than a year ago this Village (version 1) was in the doldrums, we were being mercilessly attacked by all sides by Neo fascist seeking to destroy this Village.. many of the good and loyal posters understandbly deserted this space for others forums. It seemed to many that this space was dead forever...
Then in August 2003 the Blacknet admin team, Dillinger, Raven & Kennedy (and probably more people that we don't know of) revamped this site, appointed Moderators. Now less than a year later, we are back where we belong No1 for Black cutting edge opinion, We are now without doubt the fastest growing All African site in the UK, bar none in my opinion..and we are now growing at a rate that even surpassed my own expectations..WOW!!
So as we approach our 50,000 post a milestone, I would like to personally say a big Thank you to the often unsung Admin team for recreating this Village and for all their hard work in maintaining this vibrate space..

I would also like to say big big Thank you to the very hard working Mod Squad for all their unpaid, unoticed hard work in front and behind the scenes as they will tell you, Moderating aint easy...

But most of all I'd like to say a big thank you to all the new and interesting posters who have flocked back to the Village and have really made this space and this period of Blacknet History so special...
Thank you without you this place wouldn't be the same really...Long may the village reign and I personally hope to be celebrating 100,000 posts very soon..

It would also be very enjoyable to read why people post here or keep coming back to the village to post, as a celebration of this momentous milestone..

I want to express my thanks to the admin team as well!!!  And my fellow peeps from the Mod Squad: K,H&A BLUP BLUP BLUP!!
Wow!! 50,000! Great stuff!!
Well, the reasons y i post here, is because the village is informative and it is engaging. There is always a topic or post that will catch my interest and i feel I have to respond.
Also, there r a lot of cool ppl in here. They have the knowledge, the jokes, the wit and feistyness of black ppl that i know IRL!
I consider this to be my cyber home; where I can express my views/opinions/frustrations in the comfort of my ppl. I hope to learn from them and also (hopefully) be a learning tool for others!
Although moderating can be difficult (trust me it can), i do enjoy my time here and the village on the whole!!!
 So THANKS to all those great ppl involved in making BN the fantastic village that it is!!-KEEP IT UP

i just want to thank you guys.. i stumbled on the village when icouldnt get into the chat rooms. i found this much more mature and intelligent and well rounded discussions. i get nuff joke and its nice. i am so addictive that i want broadband so i can check in at anytime.
the village has helped me through some mini crisis good advice. keep up the good work

@Kunjufu. Set the tone absolutely right, because for me leadership is everything and nothing of quality or significance happens with leadership. That is those people who take the lead, suffer the costs and rarely enjoy the benefits of their efforts to the fullness. So it is only right that we give the utmost respect, admiration and love to all the brothers mentioned who are a living embodiment of many of the things we talk and wish for.
Because without this crew of dedicated solidiers this powerful idea's time would have never come. Talk is very cheap. In taking the lead,they have created opportunties for others eg Moderators to contribute their time, skills and knowledge to our collective benefit as a people. So for me this is a living example in its purest form of small actions, with massive big time consequence, with small groups of dedicated people moving their people our people forward.
Black people ain't dead or finish. We just warming up and when I see these works I can only take plenty heart. So congratulations all the brothers and sisters and the team work and sense of purpose and dedication that has made all this possible.

Why I like being a part of this community. Very few places in white countries and spaces can black people speak and express themselves intellectually, creatively, express our individual and peronal characters, idiosyncracies, our style of humour and the way we are.
One of the things we forget which the Village and these Forums reminds those of us who have forgotten. One of the most powerful assetts of the African/Black man/woman is our intellects, our ability to think, reason, explain and understand reality, whether through stories and accounts of life and its experiences or classical debates. It is this mind and love of the things of the mind and its expression of spirit and meaning which created all our great musical forms which have influenced world culture.
So being able to engage with the minds and spirits of my people allows me to contribute to that collective black intellectual power we have. Being able to reason, be educated on a whole range of things, deeping my understanding as well as being able to make my own contribution to that process of increasing black conciousness and power.
Finally, being able to connect with the large numbers of highly intelligent, concious black men and women and interact with them is an empowering process for me. It also shows me what I know and have always known, that this fight is far from done, because we have so many concious and thinking people all over the place, in every generation, shade of skin colour, or gender, type of personality or disposition. Whether it is people analysising the racial dyamics of Big Brother 5 or on more overtly political issues, black people are well represented here and probably better than most other areas we can name in the outside white world so to speak.
So let us take heart celebrate the achievements to date and press on and constantly improve and let us know how we can make our humble contribution to that end.

 to my BN friends Ashanti, Black Beauty, and of course the indominitable Kunjufu! And of course to all the villagers that make the village what it is by offering little bit of themselves, their thoughts, their opinions each time they hit the "send" button.
I come back because I have to! (if I left for too long I am sure I would get a PM from the Mod Squad telling me to get back to work!!!). seriously, I come back because I have come to "know" some people here over the years and enjoy the banter through post and PM.
But I suppose the real reason I am here is because BN keeps me in touch with my UK roots and on the pulse of what is going on there. MY family in London still can't get over how I always know so much about what people are talking about in England!
So, Blacknet, here's to another 50,000 MAGNIFICENT posts!!!

My friend gave me the link to a page on this site. I enjoyed it so much that I took three days to read everything on that topic, I later found out that that was just one topic, so I came back and I got addicted to blacknet. I decided not to post anything, but after reading so many things, I couldn't resist the temptation not to post, i decided to register, ever since i have been enjoying it. If i need to do something in 4 hours or watch a program, 4 hours may be too long to wait, but what I do is to come on blacknet, before I know it, fours hours is gone. I read a lot of funny stuff here, so I laugh a lot.
Overall it is a good site. Well done everyone, and special thanks to the Moderators and the admins, you guys are doing great. We really appreciate you guys

Just stumbled upon this forum by accident, read a few threads, and decided to join.
So far so good.
Now I have a burning question:
In this forum one of the moderators goes by the username “Black Beauty�.
In the signature the following is stated:

Its almost like a real village, u have the two extremes - the rich and the poor in terms of thought processes or the way they convey their message. The young and the old. The educated and the uneducated. The girls and the boys. The newborn and the Gramps. The teachers and the students. The leaders and the followers. The clued up and clueless. The conscious and the unconscious. The militants and the not so militant. The old school and the newcomers. The welcomed and the unwelcomed. The police and the criminals (the moderators and the people who choose to be disruptive) The couples and the feuds. The arguments and the laughs. The serious matters and the games. The head of state and the homeless. (the admin and well .......)
But all in all u have ME.
Just playing all in all we have a COMMUNITY hence a COMMON_UNITY. So big that up because it is a start. No-one knows how many lives have changed because of BLACKNET so everybody pat yourself on the back or give the next person a clap.

I Mafdet the meek and humble poster off them all  post here because ............*cough cough* I came up with the term *VILLAGE* which is used by all (makes me smile everytime I see people referring to this community as the village) and most importantly I am still awaiting my royalties, times are hard you know and mi need a new frock now.......so pay up you mean £$%*£* !!!!! 
On a more serious note well I sum it up as follows when something can get me to put down a good book or simply walk past the tv and come online to see what discussions is happening on Blacknet then thats a good thing by my standards. Certain discussions are reassuring to know that, as Freddy B put it, we are just warming up also it also injects into one how much work needs to be done out there. This is a beautiful place a nice sense of family unity including the squabbles and confrontations because to accept good you must also acknowledge there is bad. So long live Blacknet for all the informative issues and for keeping me laughing and smiling, heres to another 50,000

What got me going was this: the line “That is a pic of Malcolm X� was sitting right next to MyThoughts’ avatar, which if you want to see it that way, is also a pic!
I just happen to laugh easily.
Take DrunkMonkey for example: There he sits half stoned on a bottle that’s not even opened! Is he sniffing through the cork and gets plastered?
And then there’s Mafdet from the undiscovered planet (wow), looking eerie and bewildered as befits these balloon shaped beings. But hell….I sure like his sense of humor and comradeship!
I thought I'd better explain myself.

WOW!! That's so great to hear. I would never have thought that this site wasn't so popular. I am proud that it has been turned around in the way it has, and I am proud that I was here at this milestone.
I can't thank you all enough for making this possible because we all have so much to say and it's nice to hear what goes on in the minds of such beautiful faces that I see every single day but perhaps do not hear. Not seeing your faces is positive in a way because we get to see how beautiful we are on the inside too .
