Subject: Launch of Global Activist Network – Avaaz.org
To: Global minded activists
I am writing to announce the launch of an exciting new initiative that will help
shape the future of urgent global issues and the way the worlds people
participate in global democracy.
Avaaz.org is the first global activist network with global campaigners located
in strategic countries. This is a MoveOn.org and Res Publica initiative seeking
to take on-line campaigning to a whole new level. The aim of Avaaz.org is to
ensure that the views and values of the world's people shape global decisions.
Our hope is to show that there are common values amongst the world's people that
go beyond boarders, languages and cultures.
With less than one month of existence we organized three campaigns and were able
to already mobilize more than 100,000 people from 198 countries. This proves
that although on-line organizing is new to non-Anglo countries, people do see
this as a valid effort that can really make change happens.
I'm seeking out people in the social justice community who participate in
networks of groups and organizations who can really help this idea launch and go
viral. We are translated in 10 different languages, so if you have any friends
in other countries make sure they know about this.
