A debate on the commemoration of the abolition of transatlantic slavery



2007 will be a year of commemoration of the abolition of transatlantic slavery. ULU is hosting a debate with a distinguished panel of speakers and an opportunity for you to debate issues with topics including:
  • Pan-Afrikan reparations: A cause to unite humanity for global justice
  • African versus western democracy
  • Abolitionists and race equality
Come and take part in what will be an inspiring an thought provoking evening.

Panel:
Kofi Klu - joint coordinator for Rendezvous of victory (ROV). ROV is an African led organisation which seeks to advance and continue globally the historical work of communities of anti slavery abolitionist resistance. Benny Dembitzer who is the director of ethical events. Ethical events is a not-for-profit entity whose mission is "learning to manage a small planet". Benny is a former international development consultant who has worked for several different international organisations that range from OXFAM to the World Bank. He is currently a visiting lecturer in economics at Greenwich and London Metropolitan Universities. Dr. Henrice Altink is a historian working on pro- and antislavery thought and teaches at York University.

Time: Slavery exhibition 5.30pm


Debate 6.30pm
