@ BP and Lucas, as two of the biggest heavyweights of the BN Village, could you please lead by example and give a blood sample whilst you're there?  as

The next registration meeting is:

Sunday 28th May and Bank Holiday Monday 29th May, Afro Hair & Beauty Show - Alexandra Palace, North London, N22 7AY. Time: 10:00am till 7:00pm.

If you are aged 18-43 and live in the UK you're considered as a potential Bone Marrow donor (even if you have Sickle Cell Trait) but you must be willing to register as a possible bone marrow match for all patients (with a similar ethnicity/racial background) around the world awaiting possible matches. Please note that you cannot just walk into your Doctor's practice or any hospital to give a blood sample to register as a donor.

To speed up the process download form from here, http://www.aclt.org/details/d.aspx/318  fill it out, then take it along to the show with you.

Thanks and regards in advance

I went to the Afro Hair and Beauty show last year for the first (and last) time.   I  thought the quality of the stands and shows was extremely poor, only one of the hair presentations was any good, when I went to this stand to get some advice on natural hair, the woman just pushed up her nasty nose and said 'we only deal with weaves and permed hair here'. Not what her colleagues were saying during their  presentation, it was like she was offended that anyone with a natural head of hair should dare to even step to her.

If you live outside London, or in an area where seeing 'black' people and products supposedly for our hair are rare, this event will appeal to you but I found it embarrassingly disappointng; it was like paying £10 to get into Peckham Market. The set up was just the same, Asians everywhere selling all manner of petroleum based goods, and  you would even get these same people with stands at the show harassing you like they were in some poor country needing the tourists' cash in order to put bread on the table for their families.

I don't believe that the organisers put any thought into who they would sell 'stalls' to, they just gave them to those who wanted to set up business there. The result is that it's a great business opportunity for Asians, but embarrassing for us, because it was blatantly obvious that this was the case.

I was very disappointed.  In contrast, I went to Adornment last November, everything was just top quality, the workshops, the clothes and hair shows, the stands had really quality and impressive goods. I was really impressed, the only thing that I could criticise was that the venue meant that it was very hard hearing the speakers during the workshops, because sound from other workshops and classes carried over, these weren't carried out in actual rooms; just partioned off sections of the venue. But the organisation, the thought about what stands would be selling goods, the food available etc all of it was really good, very impressive.

Oh, there was one good thing about the Afro Hair & Beauty Show, the African Caribbean Leukamia Trust was there so i signed up and gave a sample, i'd been meaning to for ages so i left quite pleased with myself.

There is no, 2 for the price of 1 deal ...tickets are in fact £8... That advert is misleading!

I have been to the afro hair and beauty for the past 5 years....It's very commercialised and diluted...but you can still pick up good tips and network...you cant take it too seriously...its just a fun day out!

Been to Adornment was ok, didnt like the fact that you pay to get in, then you pay to go to each lecture/seminar which is in fact hevaily oversubcribed. I felt the venue was very cramped!

Yes but a hair show with a difference: You'll have the chance to give blood and register as a Bone Marrow donor whilst you're there.

Kunjufu are you registered?
