I think we should move away from referring to our hair in this particular style as *locs*.  We all know it stems from the term *dreads* or *dreadlocks*.  It would be nice to start referring to *locs* with an African term.

I would prefer to use a word in a Sudanic or Nilotic language given earliest records of them are in that valley, but any of the African languages to describe locs  would be better than derivation from "dreads". 

Here are a few terms from the ancient Mtw Ntr of Kemet for locs in case any of these terms interest anyone.  One thing of interest to me is that the word hensek-t, denotes the locs that Heru (Horus) had in Kemetic mythos...
