Emily is removed from Big Brother Emily is a drama student from Bristol Emily Parr has been removed from the Big Brother house for using a racially offensive word to another housemate. The 19-year-old from Bristol was taken out of the compound at 0330 BST and was forbidden from having any further contact with the 11 other contestants.
This week's eviction vote has been suspended, in which Emily was nominated along with Shabnam Paryani.
A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said that the decision had been taken because "such behaviour won't be tolerated".
Regret
Channel 4 said the offensive term was not broadcast in the programme during a live stream, and was immediately reported to senior production staff.
Emily said: "Are you pushing it out, you N****r?" to Charley Uchea, while they were dancing in the living room on Wednesday evening.
In consultation with broadcast executives, the decision was taken to remove Emily from the house because she had breached rules governing contestant behaviour.
Charley Uchea is the cousin of Manchester United star Kieran Richardson
This includes causing serious offence based on the grounds of race.
Angela Jain, head of the Big Brother commissioning team, said: "The word N****r is clearly racially offensive and there was no justification for its use."
She added: "She [Emily] understands why her involvement has come to an end and she very much regrets what she said.
"I think people watching the show tonight will agree that Emily spoke carelessly rather than maliciously - certainly Charley and Nicky, the two housemates most directly involved in the conversation with her, seemed to accept that she did."
Ms Jain said that the decision had been taken in the wake of the alleged racist bullying of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year.
The broadcaster was censured by media watchdog Ofcom and ordered to make a series of on-air apologies for the incident which prompted a flood of complaints.

In full: Transcript of Emily's racial slur
DS:BB presents, in full, the transcript of the conversation between Emily, Charley and Nicky in which Emily uttered a racial slur leading to her eviction from the house.

The transcript, which is provisional and provided by Channel 4, now follows.

Emily: (referring to Charley dancing/pushing her hips forward) You pushing it out you N****r.
Nicky: (shocked laughter) Em, I can't believe you said that.
Charley: You are in trouble.
Emily: Don't make a big thing out of it then. I was joking.
Charley: I know you were... but that's some serious sh*t, sorry.
Emily: Why?
Charley: Oh my god. I'm not even saying it.
Nicky: Just don't talk about it anymore.
Emily: I was joking
Charley: Do you know how many viewers would watch that?
Nicky: Okay, don't make a big deal out of it.
Charley: Fancy you saying that. I can't believe you said that.
Emily: Somebody has already used that word in this house.
Charley: No way. (Pause) Yeah, me. I'm a N****r.

Nicky laughs.

Charley: I am one. Fancy you saying it. I know maybe you see it in a rap song. Maybe you and your friends sit there saying it.
Emily: I'm friendly with plenty of black people.
Nicky: And you call them N****rs?
Emily: Yeah and they call me N****rs. They call me wiggers as well.
Nicky: I'm quite shocked.
Charley: I'm f**king in shock.
Emily: It's not a big deal though is it?
Charley: Not for us it ain't. f**k me.

Now then, which premiership footballer classified as "black" will be boning this biach before the summer's out? Amongst all the calls to cancel big brother, notice as the ratings sky rocket, Wouldn't be surprised if she's a plant, an agent provocateur of sorts. Also I don't think anyone in the Country is actually surprised at this, Behind a majority of doors in Britain this is the kind of langauge they use about as.

True @ blackpower

But still. In light of GoodyGate that is an incredibly stupid thing for her to to stay

Whether it was said with racial malice or not is neither here nor there

To be honest i think its plain racism. Out of everyone in the house, emily is least qualified to claim ignorance, she knows what she is doing and its bourne out of a disrespect for african people. After shipwrecked & the shilpa incident....

I wonder if channel 4 will actually broadcast the comment tonight?

Believe me, this will make her more attractive in their eyes and they'll all be lining up very soon.

I think Channel 4 should make a programme where a team of undercover reporters go into the workplace, Schools, universities and streets and they will see real racism in Britain today.

A different view coming up: I don't think that kicking this girl off the show was the right thing to do, personally i would rather C4 use this occurance as a learning point to highlight the negativity of the word.  I suspect that Emily who got kicked off doesn't know why it happened, Charley definately doesn't have a clue and i suspect the wider audience will instead of seeing this as a positive will instead view this as political correctness gone mad..

So i would argue that the whole thing is counter productive,....

Lets be honest @ kunjufu

Until rappers stop using the word you are gonna cut slack to any person who uses it, regardless of their race. Apologies if I'm making the wrong assumption

Not saying that is wrong but when I heard what she said I was anticipating your response

I can see your point but BB and Education is possibly the biggest oxymoron in society at the moment

PH: Nope I can't but to be very honest....the girl was obviously articulating what she had heard day in and day out on the radio....and my guest is she heard from a BLACK man.. so in some ways it seems a bit perverse that she is getting punished for replicating behaviours that some of us have pushed via the music scene..

Cash: i'm not saying that we should cut white folks some slack for using the N-word, i prefer that we have a zero tolerance across the board for ANYONE using that word....that way everyone is clear...

My view is that WE should be pushing this agenda not C4, but as an opportunity has arisen now.. It would have been an idea to use the opportunity rather than jumping the lets get her bandwagon... afterall it appears as if she THOUGHT she was being hip...rather than racist!!!

Channel 4, pathetic. Some dumb blonde says something in ignorance, stupid but without direct racial intent, and Channel four is clear , after being chastised, this is a major racial incident and must be dealt with immediately?

While, the last time a protracted and delibrate racial assuault took place with over 40,000 views complaining and they were unrepentant about allowing it to happen.

This is Channel four cleaning up their act, to make sure that all the commerical slots are not filled with "Clips" of foreign big brother. Their decision is purely financial not moral.

I hate the use of that name in my presence, but our own. And to be fair hip hop has been responsible for bringing it into the mainstream and lightening it's racial invective.

Most of them are all media savvy or had some contact or involvment with the media before they went in the house. Maybe the two older women are probably the only "normal" people in their. The rest know what the media is all about and would have been briefed by production staff in the weeks running up to going into the house.

Up until yesterday the ratings weren't looking to good so C4/Endemol pulled out the tried and tested "say something racist to boost the rating" and it's worked because everyone's talking about it and it's news worthy *rolls eyes*.

I'm trying to find an article from a few months back where it said C4 were planning to pull of another racist incident similar to Celebrity Bigbrother. Oh, and as it involves an insult to African they probably figured we would not protest like they did in India.

**I think there is definately a point here, it does seem a bit contrived and a bit odd, that someone would use that word in that way....something is definately fishy**

the all girl house with one dude thing was boring the public senseless.  C4 prolly thought this would be a way to make people talk about it and tune in.  I think it's scripted.

I could most certainly buy the idea of C4 scripting a racial incident. Watching The Apprentice last night made it clear how contrived these shows really are

But dropping the 'N Bomb'

Its too risky. I don't think we would beat her up if we saw her on road or anything, but as for her 'career'. Its done

She wants to be an actress. She will be the N****r woman

Too too risky

The whole situation smells fishy, Evan how Emily came about saying the word in the transcript seepms dodgy.

I dont buy the explanation that her friends use ther term 'N****r', i dont think she would associate with the type of people. She isnt stupid she knows where the term comes from.

Either she is racist or a some kind of stunt by C4, probably to boost viewers or something

Racism row brings CBB ratings boost

A row over alleged racism towards Shilpa Shetty boosted the number of viewers tuning into Celebrity Big Brother.
Channel 4 revealed figures showing that the main highlights programme averaged 4.5 million viewers on Tuesday, up from 3.5 million on Monday.
And Tuesday's viewing figures were the highest since January 5, when an audience of 4.6 million watched Jade Goody and her family enter the house.
This series of Celebrity Big Brother began with 7.3 million viewers for its launch episode.
But three days later the ratings had slumped to 2.8 million.

The only time they have risen above four million since then was on January 10 when 4.2 million tuned in to see Jade's mother Jackiey evicted from the house.

Media watchdog Ofcom and Channel 4 have seen the numbers complaining about the programme, and certain housemates' behaviour towards Bollywood star Shilpa, rise every day, with 30,000 voicing their dismay.

History has a habit of repeating itself. The ratings take a dive - so say something racist.

BB bosses 'to capitalise on controversy'

Tuesday, May 1 2007, 19:23 BST

By Dave West

Producers are planning to "capitalise" on the heightened interest in Big Brother because of the race row, according to a report.

Bosses are apparently planning another edgy series to keep viewers' interest by challenging housemates more than ever.

Ratings for Celebrity Big Brother after allegations of racism hit headlines internationally.

The Daily Star Sunday also says this summer's series will be built around the theme of "Saints and Sinners - pushing contestants in eight categories.

Among the new initiatives, a spa has been added to the bedroom to encourage lust. Slothful housemates - who sleep or rest too much - will be put up for eviction as punishment and all will have to demonstrate their pride by telling the public why they should win.

An source told the paper: “The 14 hopefuls are going to be pushed to their absolute limits. They won’t know what has hit them.

“There is a huge amount of interest in BB8 after the race row. But instead of playing it safe bosses want to capitalise on the extra publicity and make sure this is the best series ever.
