Police call off rape gang hunt
The claims prompted an eight-week investigation in NorthamptonDetectives have called off the hunt for a gang of men who were alleged to have committed a series of rapes and attempted abductions in Northampton.
Police have taken action against one of the alleged victims and are considering taking action against another, BBC Look East has revealed.
Officers are now satisfied that one of the alleged rapes did not take place.
An alleged abduction, in August, also did not occur in the way in which it was reported, police said.
 We are now happy that we are not looking for a gang of predatory men, as previously thought

The attacks, which were the subject of an eight-week investigation, were believed to have taken place in August this year.
Earlier this month, officers interviewed and took informal action against a 15-year-old girl for wasting police time over an alleged attempted abduction on 1 August.
Officers are now preparing a file for consideration by the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to possible action against an 18-year-old over allegations of an abduction and rape, also on 1 August.
Police urged women to be vigilant during the hunt for the gang
Officers are still investigating an incident of harassment of a 25-year-old woman in the Cheyne Walk area of the town between 0130 and 0150 BST on 3 August.
They are also investigating the alleged rape of a woman in Exeter Place in Northampton on 8 August, although there is no evidence at this stage that these are connected to each other.
Three men arrested last month in connection with the Operation Harbour inquiry were all released without charge.
Det Ch Insp John Jones, from Northamptonshire Police, said: "We are now satisfied that two of the alleged incidents - a rape and an attempted abduction - that were reported to us, did not occur in the way in which they were first reported.
"Both allegations have been thoroughly and professionally investigated, but we have found no evidence that they occurred in the way they were reported.
"We are now happy that we are not looking for a gang of predatory men, as previously thought.
"Our investigations have led us to believe that there was a group of men cruising around Northampton in vehicles in the early hours of 1 August, but we have found no evidence that any offences were committed."
Here we go again.......
I read this story yesterday in The Sun, but couldn't find it on the Net. It was one of those "blink and you'll miss it" type stories.
Just like the Basildon "rape", Black men seem to be seen as the enemy of the decent White folks once again.

this is disturbing
These are the types of women that make it so hard for real rape victims to report their attacks. Either its premeditated set-up, or the first instinctive thing that came into their heads. Either way, its a worry. Multi-cultural britain ehh??? Yeah, a multitude of cultures to set up when Coronation Street aint giving you enough enjoymentt
I'm glad 5 0 are going to prosecute one of the girls and thinking of doing for another.
The article is confusing though. Did nothing take place at all or is it only in 2 cases? Was there collusion with the victims about descrptions?? Too many questions. I hope we see the answers in headline news, not some ' and finally' segments

True that in the landscape of things we are not "crime blameless", but the last thing we need is to be accused of that that is fiction. Like "Susan Smith for example". We do remember that one right?
What is sad about this is how easily believeable and plausible this seemed for the community involved. If the preception were not so deeply set, this could not have been so easily sold.

yep..Susan Smith......and the central park "wilding case"....where a handful of Black/latino men were jailed for rape and assault that they did NOT commit.....
eventually released when true rapist and DNA cleared them....
same stuff different country...

She is the married white lady who had two beautiful boys, but wanted to be "free" to see this other guy. So she drove the car into a lake and drowned her boys, but claimed that she had been car jacked by a black man who drove off with her sweet little boys.

yeah and the local police harassed and took in many people who fit the description of the "fictional carjacker/kidnapper".......after the story fell through....cops realized she was lying....

There are too many o fthese cases in recent meory to even list here.
Last year.....there was a case involving an older white woman and mmebers of St;. John's college basketball team..
Woman cried rape.....but one of the players had secrtely recorded what REALLY happened and was discussed on his cell phone video camera....and she was found to be lying......

There is a specific charge for filing a false police report.

That's just pure evil. I wonder what the real story is? Did these girls do something that they don't want to take the blame for so they are trying to divert attention away from themselves by fabricating a lie about black men.
I hope they didn't have an artists rendering like Susan Smith did. In her case they actually arrested a brotha who looked like the drawing. This also happened in Boston around the same time as Susan Smith.
A white man shot his pregnant wife while they were in the car and then shot himself. He called 911 and said it was a black man. After a couple of days his brother came forth and said that his brother told him what he was going to do and that he was going to blame it on a black man.
And they wonder why we don't trust police.

That's right. But I think there were actually two they were both security guards at the hotel.

Yes there were two, but they never showed the other one on TV.
It was all too perfect. Sweet innocent 18 year old fresh out of high school Natalie gay happy and on vacation is taken off in the bud of her youth and the blond haired blue eyed debutante is raped brutally by two large hulking Carribean men then dumped in the ocean. They had it all figured out.
