have you notice how the speeds keep increasing and you dont have to pay more. i am with ntl and soon i will have real bb my 300k will increase to 1mg

Myself at present am using a 1mb connection from BT. Received a letter from them stating that they are increasing my bandwidth soon to 2mb.
Great news you would say !!! Bad news is that they are putting a download cap per month.....

I mean yeah there is a download cap... but its 15 GIGs!!!! per month!!!

| All these new ultra cheap high speed services are all capped, normally quite low. The speed of the line doesn't matter anymore its all usage based charging. Much like mobiles where you get your inclusive free minutes and then you pay through the nose afterwards for extra data.

For NTL broadband users I was told by NTL that there are upgrading but you have to phone in to request it they are not informing customers directly about it because it will cause a big rush with everyone requesting it all at once....big deal thats their problem LOL.......so much for competing with BT if they don't directly inform their customers.
So ladyday call them and they will do it for you bear in mind that if your broadband runs from your tv cable they may need to come and give you another set top box.
But I have been upgraded WHOOOOPPPPPIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE

This may be relevant, but true I don't understand broadband; MB, GB, Mbps?????
We got it to stop extortionate phone bills, but here is what I read ...
NTL is believed to have abandoned plans to charge existing customers to upgrade to a faster broadband connection.
NTL is to unveil a new range of broadband packages this month. Services offering speeds of 1 Mbs, 2Mbps and 3Mbps will replace the existing 300Kbps, 700bKps and 1.5 bps packages.
NTL had previously said that existing customers would stay on their current service unless they paid a one-off charge to upgrade. It said that the charge was necessary because there was a "large cost to this kind of exercise" which it needed to "recoup at some point". However, BT, AOL and UK Online have all recently boosted their broadband speeds and moved existing customers on to the new services at no extra cost. NTL is now expected to scrap the charge. The £24.99 a month 2Mbps packages are likely to have a 1 GB monthly usage limit and the £17.99 a month 1 Mbps service will have a 3GB allowance.

i called them when i was at work and they said the same thing.
got home switched my modem off for 30 sec switched all back on and voila. i even checked adslguide.org.uk for a speed test and yes i have been upgraded. thank God for that

We starts at 512kb/ps in this year speed increase to 2.2meg/s
Tiscali is tops and price the same.?

Here is something they don't tell you about.....
Yes your speed is going to get fast, but then the CONTENTION RATIO is going to be higher.........What the hell is CONTENTION RATIO?????....
Well most BroadBand providers gives you a 50:1 Contention Ratio for home user package, the 50:1 means that even though you have 2Mb you may at anytime be sharing it with 50 other users, in your area!!!!...........and as many ppl are starting to get broadband the likehood of you sharing that 2mb with your Neighbour is more likely now, that it was about 2 years ago.
Most Business tend to have a 25:1 contention ratio..... to find out more ask you Broadband provider... they don't usually tell you unless you ask.

Your absolutly right about the contention, but..... your assuming that the majority of these newer broadand users hammer the connection 24/7.
Keep in mind though most of the heavy users have been signed up from early stages. It mostly joe public signing up now, the family users, check their mail and thats it. Not forgetting the caps as well. Most cheap services now won't let you do more than a couple of gig a month.
I'm still on a 512k service but I haven't really noticed any significant slow down. In the end of the day if you are getting upgraded for free but you only get 75% of the speed of a 2mb line thats still faster than you had before for no extra cost.
