| ok i am panicking abit. i need advise so i will try on the weekend. i delete my temp files and they reappear. i am sure i deleted those temp files before i installed sp2. do you think it is worth me uninstalling sp2 go through my files again then re-install. if yes... how easy is it to uninstall and re-install, what effects will this have on my pc. i keep seeing the same avatar although i changed mind and i reckon this will help. help???????

I wouldn't uninstall SP2 and then put it on again. Thats just like playing with the devil, you would be asking for trouble.
How many temp files we talking here? Its normal for a few to be generated every now and again. Sometimes they don't get deleted.
As for your avatar.....actually hang on, are we talking about temp files in general, or are we talking about internet temp files?
Internet temp files get created on your computer when you visit a web page, so that next time it doesn't have to load all the data again. They stay until something newer comes along. Possibly that could lead to a problem with your avatar and clearing them might help.

ok i tried that. and whe i go to check my internet temp files they are al their still. some originated back in 2003
as for temp files they have .tmp nlot sure if its safe to delete these
and yes i am talking about both.

Hmmm. If going through the menu in IE and clearing them doesn't do the job, you could try navigating to the correct folder and doing a select all and deleting them.
As for the .tmp files, unless you are getting silly amounts, I would just leave them. I have just checked and I have 212 floating about. They don't do any harm. I can't see anyway they would effect anything IE related. They are mostly used when applications install.

The reason is because even when you delet the history and the cookies and offline content.......even if you go to the temp folder and delete those files...windows (if you are using windows) automatically created an index.bat or index.dat file that records all the places you've been.
And you can't delete it....when you delet through IE you are simple delete the path footprints and any web pages, or graphics that may have been saved......
if you really want to get it off your pc you will need to get a stand alone program called "Clean swee" that is the best one.

go to this site - appz - utilities. download system mechanic, win-optimizer or tune-up utilities. these programmes will remove all the crap on your computer. if you want it even cleaner then run reg cleaner from tweak now 2005, you dont need a serial for this programme. alternatively, download firefox which allows you to remove the crap at the click of 1 button.

i put in another thread but i will post here too
i did an adaware scan and it brought up negligible objects..... so i searched through them and found IE files. i deleted those and voila. so it seems adware heps me delete temp files. to think i never knew what they were till now
