| Go to Programmes > Accessories > System tools > System resore: this action will allow you computer to go back into time - pick a date that is highlighted on the calendar (or is it the dates un highlighted?) this is why I asked when was the last time your computer performed these functions. Also I think you can only put computer back within the same month! If you have installed programmes, they will be removed if you reset date to before you instaled it. Hope this works.

| You probably need to reboot the whole hard drive - maybe. Save all your docs on a large enough flash disk and then re store the whole package. Dont know how you would do this mind.

Are you getting sound anywhere at all, or is your problem just with YouTube/Peekvid? Have you tried the volume control on the YouTube screen? (not being funny - sometimes its as simple as that)
Have you checked your master volume control (via Control Panel/Sounds)?
Which programmes have you tried to remove - presumably using Add/Remove Programmes - and what messages are you getting which tell you there's a problem?
Wouldn't rush to reformat your hard drive just yet....

When I click on sounds & audio devices via the control panel an error message comes up
Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button and then click search.
This error message also comes up when I click on Add or remove programs. Napster plays ok so I know its not my speakers

System 32 error - OMG When I had that message, I had a virus on my computer, and it was also affecting my control panel - Systems 32 had erased my control panel functions. Infact, I had the said message 'rundell...'. Lawd, girl, sounds like you need to grab all of the docs you can b4 the virus take set on all you hard drive....sorrry to sound so dramatic but virus on your computer is no joke. Happened to me when I was weeks away from handing in 3 assisgnment....could have lost them if it wasn't for someone that I found in the nick of time.

| Well, ideally contact someone you personally know who is a dab hand with computers, other than that you will have to call a store that fixes hard drives - take it there, or call them to your home.

Sounds like a virus has corrupted your system registry. There are programs you can buy that will fix it, though it helps if you know something about how PCs work if you're going to use one of those. Otherwise, a local dealer - or someone you know who knows their way around how software works - could sort it out.
I'm wondering whether you have something called XP Service Pack 2 installed on your machine - if you haven't, your PC is vulnerable to being infected by the Sasser virus, which causes variations of the problem you now have. The risk is worse if you also use Internet Explorer 6. If you don't have SP2, you need it otherwise it is not safe for you to go online at all.
If you have your operating system disc, you could also try a repair install (assume you're using XP), and that would replace the missing file. That might not work, in which case it's a reinstall and you lose everything you have on your PC.
Two things to do in any event - save any files you want/need onto some external media (CD/DVD best), in case you have to do a fresh install; and look at your anti-virus software if you have it. If you need to upgrade, there are good free programs available. You can also go online to get a free virus scan, and some (like Trend Micro's HouseCall) will repair any viruses you have.
Hope this helps.

I don't know if you've sorted this problem but I thought I'd let you know that it could be your firewall that is causing your worry. It may not work for you but I had a similar sound trouble recently but once the firewall was turned off everything worked normally. As you can still hear sound elsewhere it may not be a driver or a direct sound card issue.
I don't know why you cannot access your add/remove in control panel. That's strange. A bit lame but try refreshing the page.

| Before doing anything so drastic as reloading windows I would try re-installing the soundcard.
