I just need to be able to encrypt some files with at least 128 bit as well as be able to keep the key. I know that some of you will say Microsoft, but I want the files to be easily portable and able to work off of a USB drive as well, something Bill and the boys have trouble with.

Best results came up with Advanced Encryption Package 2006 2048bit with bells and whistles for $30 30 day trial, down to Cyrpt4Free(freeware free-is good) 128bit/448bit and no backdoor, you lose your password, you lose your files/folders. dunno about taking key, but it has a random text/binary password generator which you generate by moving the mouse?

Both from the same company plus many more intermediate encryption products from them, defo worth a look.
