Try computer fair in Stratford if you're London-based (Carpenters Estate). Stall there selling a range of Epson-compatible cartridges at £2 each (and they work, at least on mine - not same model as yours). Fair is open Sats & Suns 10.30 - 4.

Similar prices available online, so another option.

Hope this helps.

get an online subscription to consumer reports mag.

they rank and rate everything....

they have issues about costs of printers..both initial costs.and the operating costs(replacement of cartridges)

if you are just printing black text, might be economical to get a laser printer......

free report

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/printers/reports/how-to-choose.htm?resultPageIndex=1&resultIndex=1&searchTerm=printers

I had older issue and Canon inkjets cost the least to operate.....at least in USA...

top recommendations

[inkjet printers]

hp deskjet 6540-$130(average 5.5 cents per text copy)

Canon Pixma 1P4000 - $140(average 3 cents per text copy)

Canon Pixma iP5000 -$190 price (avg. 3 cents)

=================================================

[multifunction inkjet printers(scan, print, copy)]

HP photosmart 2710 (400 dollars) 5.5 cents per text copy

Canon Pixma al in one MP780 or MP750 (300 dollars) 3 cents per copy

Epson Stylus photo RX500 or RX600(230 dollars) 4.5 cents per text copy

The per text copy comes from formula they use factoring ink cost and paper cost...

this is from may of 2005...so the prices for these models should have dropped....

PEACE

I dont know what you want to use it for but Ill give you the deal of the century.

Tesco's are selling a Lexmark colour printer/scanner/copier/fax all in one/ for £40.00.

Its the Lexmark 2450. So you can read the spec on line .. I bought it BTW and it suits my purposes fine. It prints up to 300 dpi if thats good for ya.

Before you purchase any printer, go online and see how much ink cartridges will cost.  You can buy an inexpensive printer (dell printers, for example) and think that you got a good deal until you realize that replacement cartridges cost $50 each.  So always check the price of ink first.

thats what i am looking at. because ink is expensive. i have seen some bargains of printer from 20-40 quid mainly lexmark but they cost a lot to maintain

still looking

seems i may buy impulsivel but i am trying to make an informed decision
