I was told to never sit too close to the TV by many types of people. Now as I write I am write in front of an old CRT monitor.
I wanted to know is plasma tvs and monitors not so heavy on the eyes after long hour of viewing?
Second, are plasma tv rated high in your neighborhood as sign of mobility? There is a dear old lady at my worksite who invited me to her house to help her daughter with her homework and I was like 'wow' you really have a big tv (plasma) even though it seems her salary cannot afford such a thing. I use to work in a similar position where she is now and I know I couldnt afford it then. But is it really easy to get a good deal on one without getting into too much credit and too much debt.
Plus any other benefits you see personally.

Japan cos eye more flat-panel high definition TV sales in US, Europe - report
02.13.2006, 07:29 PM
TOKYO (AFX) - Major consumer electronics companies here are stepping up efforts to tap the expanding market for flat-panel, high-definition television (HDTV) sets in the US and Europe, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported without citing sources.
The report said Matsush*ta Electric Industrial Co plans to increase its sales of plasma TVs in the US by 200 pct to more than 1.5 mln units in the year to March 2007.
The company, which makes Panasonic brand products, also aims to increase the proportion of HDTVs sold out its total plasma TV sales in the US to 85 pct from the current 60 pct. In Europe, Matsasush*ta is hoping to boost sales of plasma TVs by 150 pct to 1.3 mln units in FY06 and increase the proportion of HDTVs sold to 65 pct from 35 pct.
Meanwhile, Hitachi Ltd intends to launch new plasma HDTVs and step up efforts to develop new sales channels in the US and Europe with the aim of doubling its sales of plasma HDTVs to 250,000 units each in the US and Europe.
Pioneer Corp is planning to release a 50-inch plasma TV in Europe that supports the full-HD standard, in time to tap expected demand generated by the June start of the World Cup soccer tournament in Germany.
Meanwhile, Victor Co of Japan (JVC) plans to double its sales of LCD HDTVs in Europe by equipping its mid-range HDTV model with the image-enhancing function now employed only in the top-end model, in addition to releasing a full-HD LCD TV model.
The report said HDTVs are estimated to have accounted for less than 50 pct of the TVs sold in the US in 2005 and less than 30 pct in Europe. However, demand for them is on the rise as more TV stations introduce digital HDTV broadcasting services.
