Does anyone know of a laptop that has a dual-processor motherboard and where to get it?  I am willing to pay top dollar for it too.  I already know you can get a desktop PC with a parallel-processor motherboard.  What about a laptop?

What I want are 2 top-of-the-line AMD or Intel dual-core processors in a laptop.  It would also be nice to have 2GB of RAM as well.

I wouldn't imagine you could get one yet, I could be wrong however. Laptops are a balancing act between Speed, Battery Life and Heat.

Dual Processor's would consume to much power and put out to much heat to be pratical in a laptop.

I just got a used 1.7 GHz Dell Inspiron and that thing is hot in my lap.  It switches down to 1.2 GHz during battery operation.  It has two fans so they consume power and help kill the battery too.

If I truly had to have a laptop and use it in various locations I think I would rather have a 486/66 that could go 24 hours or more on a charge.  I still think 486/66s are powerful machines as long as you are not running this bloated inefficient software.

Are you designing RFIDs on the go Thoth?

Nope - That's not out yet!!

The reason I know that is that if it was - I would already have it.

I actually have practical application for a portable computing solution like that.

The the laptop below can be configured with:

Athlon FX60 Dual Core processor
3.6GB of Ram
320GB Total Storage or 160 GB Raid 1 (2 160GB hard disks)
17" TFT UXGA pane (1920x1200)
Nvidia mobile 7800GTX with 256mb Ram

Ok they do exist then, but check out the specs of some of somethnig similar:-

http://www.m-techlaptops.com/amd_dual_core_laptop.htm

Under battery information:-

12cells; 6600mAH; approx 1hr

That is a huge battery to be carrying around and look it only holds charge for about an hour. I bet if you are actually making full use of that dual core processor and  GPU that the time must nearly sink down to 30mins. The power consumption must be between 150w - 200w, 90% of that will end up as heat.

Hi Nick,

That laptop is the exact same laptop as the one I previously linked to.

The information regarding that laptops specifications on that website is misleading.

This laptop is made a by a Taiwanese OEM called Clevo.

However the motherboard in that laptop can only accept 1 single core or Dual core processor.

Clevo is an OEM that creates laptop chasis' for several laptop distributors such as Sager, AJP, Voodoo, Rock Direct, PCTorque Etc

A Laptop motherboard that can accept 2 seperate Dual Core processors in a concurrent configuration probably exists but definitely isn't availble to an average consumer at the moment.

I've even checked out Suns UltraSparc portable solutions as they usually make specialist equipment for specialist applications.  But not even Sun offer this configuration of laptop.

Its a shame really as that type of power in a portable solution would be useful to me... (Data mining, 3D Graphic/Audio rendering etc)

=============

Actually, I can't really talk about what I currently design since I am a government defense contractor.  All I can say is my specialties are digital and analog integrated circuits ranging from transistor-level design to embedded (software) systems, and most aspects of RF design.

Anyhow, maybe a parallel processor in a laptop isn't feasible at this time.  I have never owned a laptop before.  I am looking to buy my very first one.
