Right I just orderd another laptop from work, after having my current for about a year, which is still an High Spec Laptop in todays standards... for those that know here is the specs..
Intel Centrino 2.0 GHz
1gb DDr Ram
80 Gb, Built in bluetooth...
DVD Rewriteable... Also its quite thin, and weighs only 2.5 kg
Now the new one I ordered arrived yesterday, out of excitement I opened the box.. and to my surprise its a bloody 15.4 Widescreen laptop , my current one is 15 inch, which I am really satisfied about...
Now I called up the company, and they told me they stopped making normal size laptops and only do widescreen range... wtf... I am contemplating on changing it, but I can't seem to find a better spec, at normal size...
Is anyone using a widescreen laptop?, from what I have been hearing most laptop makers are now joining the bandwagon... , so the days of normal screen laptop is nearing its end..
BTW The new specs I got is
Mobile Intel® Centrino™ technology
Intel® Pentium M 760 2.0Ghz
15.4 WSXGA+ Widescreen TFT Display
120GB Hard Drive
1024MB DDR2 RAM
DVD-RW Super Multi Drive
5 in 1 Card Reader
Bluetooth

I've had a widescreen laptop for about 2 years now and to be honest I absolutely love it. I cannot imagine having to use a normal laptop. My main reasons for liking widescreen laptops is because I use mine to to watch dvds and films and tv a lot and as widescreen is now the norm for these things its great to watch them as they were intended. I totally cannot fault having a widescreen laptop it just looks so good.
Can I ask why you don't like them, is it perhaps because you're used to using 15" ones?

| I feel you blackthought because I went down from a 15in to a 14. Just something about them. Plus sometimes you like to code in different places. For instance, I had a Vaio that was 15 inches with subwoofer. Played movies great and everything but the thing was just too heavy to haul around everyday. The idea was to be portable with power. So I had to downsize to an IBM to be light and still have the power to code. Average video no comparison to the Sony, but I rarely ever watch DVDs on my laptop. Actually it is the last thing I want to see if I am watching a movie. LOL

The technology is designed to suit the marketing strategy and the market strategy is designed for the biggest market segment. The biggest market segment is consumers buying expensive toys not techies that really know what to do with the technology.
I don't want to watch movies on a computer either tho I'm satisfied with my 32" TV. I don't understand why people want to watch movies on an iPod. I would rather read a book than watch a 2" screen. A movie worth watching can wait 'til I get home.
