ok...i have asked several people that i know...if they know anything about mp3 players or ipods...none of them knew much or very little....i have asked a few people in cyber land...who have not answered, did not know...or let my question fall on deaf ears...so here i am again....asking.... DO ANY OF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THESE THINGS?...any suggestions would be appreciated...
yes i could do some more research...but i like personal suggestions/experiences when spending this kind of money...
I AM LOOKING AT THIS ONE...DONT KNOW IF IT IS WORTH THE PRICE though....

Better Yet
Time for the world’s best music player to take the stage for another encore. In 30GB and 60GB(1) models that hold up to 15,000(2) songs, full-color album art and up to 25,000 photos(3), the new iPod makes the most of your music and more. Yeah, you’ve heard that tune before. Only now, you can watch it, too. With support for up to 150 hours(4) of video and a 2.5-inch color display, the new iPod lets you take music videos and TV shows on the road.
More and Less
The new iPod boasts up to 20 hours of battery life(5), five hours more than before. Plus, you get a bigger display and one more iPod color — sleek black. But here’s the kicker: At under half an inch thin, the new 30GB iPod takes up about 45 percent less room than the original iPod. Even the new 60GB model is 10 percent thinner than the fourth-generation 20GB iPod. More features in less space? Sounds like iPod.
Hold Everything
Now you can put all your music in your pocket and still have room for, well, practically everything else. Catch up on your reading with audiobooks. Browse your memories with photo slideshows, complete with music. Watch video podcasts, music videos and your favorite TV shows. Consult your calendar or look up an email address. Even check the time in another city or time your fastest lap. The new iPod keeps it all close at hand.
Spin Some Tunes
The Apple Click Wheel gives you access to your entire music, photo and video library — from one thumb. Control volume and browse using the touch-sensitive surface. Play. Pause. Rewind and fast-forward. Rate your favorites. Create playlists on the go. Launch photo slideshows. The Click Wheel puts everything at your fingertips, so you can keep your eyes and ears on the music.
Sync, Look and Listen
Playing your iPod is only half the fun. Try filling it with downloads from the iTunes Music Store. Choose from over 2 million songs, 25,000 podcasts, 2,000 music videos or your favorite ABC and Disney television shows, download them to your Mac or PC and sync them to your iPod. Add an optional audio cable to play music from the iPod to your home stereo or use an optional S-video cable with iPod to play VJ on your TV. You can perform the same big-screen feat with iPod photo slideshows. Oh, and you can do it all from across the room using the optional Universal Dock and handy new Apple remote.
- 1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.
- Song capacity is based on four minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding.
- Photo capacity is based on iPod-viewable photos transferred from iTunes.
- Video capacity is based on 4 minutes per H.264 750-Kbps video combined with 128-Kbps audio.
- Up to 20 hours of battery life refers to 60GB model and music playback.
- Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings.

I rip CDs and make mp3 files and play them thru my stereo when I want long random play and not concerned about high music quality. When I really want to listen I play CDs. I don't have a portable mp3 player. If I was going to get one I would probably buy a portable CD player with mp3 playback capability. I know it isn't as cool as an iPod but I care about functionality and money. If I put a bunch of money in a gadget it better do something important.
A computer geek friend of mine has a girl friend who owns an iPod. I don't know which model but I don't think it is a recent one that does video. He has to mess with it almost once a month to get something working. She loves it when its working.
I would not put up with proprietary music formats though. Somewhere I have a magazine with an article that converts by playing the music and recording the analog to encode it as mp3. When I find it I'll post it.

An mp3 encoded CD holds 4 hours of music. There are CD jewel cases that hold 4 CDs in the space of 1 regular jewel case. 4 in the case and 1 in the player is 30 hours of music and it should all fit in a fanny pack.
It is all a matter of what you want to do with the tech. I have been waiting for a good Linux PDA with a 30 gig disk. I could put 5 gig of music on that and do important stuff with the rest. I must be olde fashioned, using 30 gig for nothing but music seems ludicrous to me when I probably won't be away from home long enough to listen to a significant fraction of it.
One Gigabye of mp3 is 16 hours of music, equal to 11 90 minute cassette tapes. I never carried that many tapes with my walkman.

Only problem with MP3 CDs is that you can't edit your playlists or even the order of play.
I like the songs on my playlists to flow together and tell a story or at least be similar. I can't have crunk-slowjam-reggae-crunk-soca-soul It's just silly.

| Then you need an MP3 player. The one you posted is good but I'm not sure you need THAT much capacity. 15000 songs is a bit excessive and that sort of memory costs more money. Scale it down and explore other makes besides apple.

Some of my home made non-mp3 disk are recorded in a desired order and I put the same kind of music on a single disk.
I do a lot of random play but I don't want stuff that clashes. It is selected by my mood at the time.
Back in my 20s playing music on LPs was a lot more work, I'm not willing to fiddle around nearly as much as I was then.
Gotta have good speakers though.

I used to have a Creative Nomad Zen mp3 player with 20GB disk space, and used most of it....but found that there was no point in carrying around that much music. Now I have a much smaller player (4GB) and download playlists onto it - works fine for me.
What you do depends on your listening habits.....if you have long spells during each day where you can listen to music, then a larger disk size makes sense. If its short periods, then I'd go for a smaller unit and change the content more frequently as its easier. Never thought about having music and video on the same unit, and I don't think that would work for me. Do you want something as a storage unit, or primarily a playback device? If its storage, go for disk size; if playback, smaller makes sense.
On brands, I have always been a fan of Creative products - they have a good selection size and price wise, and the sound quality (IMO) beats iPod. I bought my youngest one of their Flash-based players recently, and was amazed at the depth of the sound - good bass even with the standard headphones (which are usually rubbish). There are plenty of choices these days though, so browse around...there is usually no real need to shell out megabucks, unless you really want to.

Hiya
I have the new video ipod and I have to say I'm impressed. The picture quality is brilliant and soon you'll be able to watch TV on it too.
The sound quality is also amazing. You may think 150000 songs is a lot but taking into account the average album has 10 songs, its very easy to use up a lot of capacity. I have over 20000 songs already and I've only had my ipod for 2 weeks.
Best thing is to just burn your CDs onto Itunes then upload onto your ipod. Alternatively you can join a music sharing site such as limewire.com.
Hope that helps!

sr...i would like as many options as i can get...i would like it for storage and playback...oh and pics and voice recorder would be great...i dont want to have to make room for more stuff by deletion of music...thats why i think that something with lots of memory would fit me ...

I am an i pod owner... and i must say a few things!!
They are easy to use, fit comfortably into pockets, have a decent battery life and cute!
I can honestly say my i pod was one of the best things i ever got music wise... you can comply your own lists or make a quick one while you are out if you want!
mine doesn't store pics or videos (i have a dinosaur one!) but its still brilliant! you can hook it up to mini speakers or ear phones and there are loads of gadgets around too!
some of them are a little excessive, such as the handbag with speakers in!! but i must reccommend the i trip which you can pick up off ebay...
the i trip will play your i pod through ANY radio ,thats car, home, friends and thus save you buying speakers! All you have to do is tune the radio into a specific station!
The i.pod really is a good thing to have if you want all your music on the move.. and its worth every penny.. its an investment you wont regret!
if you have any questions i'll happily answer!
bless x x x x

You need to consider what you really want your MP3 TO BE DOING... if it to store your favourite tracks.. consider how many music can listen and enjoy in one go.... ONE TRACK.. then consider... how often you want to be listening to your iPOD / MP3..
Do you want your gadget other usage... i.e saving your p.c file, Mpeg pics, important document.. uses become more paramount..
I have 512MB MPE.. and I have 105 songs on it, pic, files that i use frequently.. even delete and replace recent album c.d songs.. i.e MARY j Blige, ( favourite tracks, compilation c'd.. so... the next question for you to consider.. do you bigger space.. Mp3 / iPOD WITH LAGER storage ... 1GB.. When i bought mine last october.. £79.99 and now it is about £40.00
Dont waste your valuable money on manufacturers name.. they all perform well and good.

Just in case anybody is intrested in a way of either removing the copyright protection or converting simply into a MP3 without losing quality or having to burn them seperatly to a CD and then ripping them back. Try this app:-

Hi,
Yes long time. I sort of drifted off a while back, for some reason I had the urge to visit again tonight....and guess what....I still remembered by password!!!!
I guess the best MP3 player at the moment is the one that suits you and your life style the most. I will try and help you choose though.
Memory Stick
Pros: Small, cheap, hard to damage
Cons: Small memory, although you can get 1-2GB ones now fairly cheap
Summary: These are great if you might be knocking them about a bit. Take them anywhere and don't worry about them.
Ipod Mini Type things
Pros: Cheapish, Fairly small
Cons: Small memory compared to what you can get for a few extra £'s
Summary: still semi tough although take up a bit more pocket space
Hard disk type things (normal ipod)
Pros: Tons of storage
Cons: Large, expensive, delicate
Summary: Great if you require your whole music collection in your pocket. However this comes at a price as well as pocket space. When you want to go out and you want music, do you have enough pocket space for keys, phone, wallet + this beats...etc. This is less of a problem at the moment, but once summer hits you want to go out light. Also these things don't like getting knocked about. This might restrict where you would want to take it. The memory stick ones I would feel happy taking to the beach, would you feel happy taking your new £200 IPod?
Hard disk things with video playback
Pros: Looks cool at the moment (technology ages fast), Large storage, Plays Video
Cons: Extremely expensive + same as above
Summary: Very flash, but do you need it? How often are you going to be on the move and you have time to watch a video? Also unless you will convert your own films/videos its an extra cost to download them. Converting yourself takes time and skills. Again the device expensive and delicate.
Those are the mainstream options, however there is one device and if I am right will be the future MP3 player. And that is the mobile phone. I have a k750i at the moment. You can put upto a 2GB card in. Thats a very potent MP3 player considering its also a phone, oh and it also plays video's and has a radio. Plus theres the all important pocket space again, you always have your phone on you, so you always have your music to.
Not sure if that has helped or has just served to confuse you more. But like i said you need to make the decision on what you require.

Hi.
I recently bought a sony NWA1000 6GB HDD MP3 player after much deliberation. It can store between 1500 and 3000 songs on either MP3 or ATRAC format. It doesn't have a video function format but that isn't a problem for me. The sound quality is great although it can sound a bit tinny with the headphones supplied (you can always buy better alternatives). The look, feel and size of the player is nice as well. I bought it for £144 pounds on amazon (it was reduced to £130 the following week!!). The similarly priced ipod nano has less storage (2-4GB). The HDD player is also available in 20GB (NWA3000 holding up to 13000 songs) but it is also much larger than the 6GB model.
