my friend usually has a speaker symbol on her pc. next to the start bar icons. one day this disappeared. now she uses a tft monitor with speakers built in so she used it to turn the volume up down and off

problem is cant find how to get the volume symbol to show. she can go through control panel etc and adjust volume that way. does she need to re-install anything.......she used xp

i am baffled as for me i use external speakers but she doesnt.

any suggestions welcomed

just tell your friend to go to START - SETTINGS ->CONTROL PANEL , IN THE CONTROL PANEL you will see the SOUNDS AND MULTIMEDIA double click on the icon , in the sounds section look at the bottom of the page and will see a section(BOX) called SHOW VOLUME ON THE TASKBAR tick the box , click APPLY and your speaker icon should pop back in the corner .
