Does anyone know of any software and/or hardware where you could record music to your computer and configure it so that it plays continuously?

I don't mean musical instruments, I mean CD's etc. But if anyone know of something that could record both and still allow music to play continuously, that would be ideal .

At the moment I only know that you could repeat a peice of music, but that means it stops and starts.  :)

I am using Foobar2000 to listen to Donna Summer's BAD GIRLS right now.  I'm old, what do you want.  LOL

I use Freeripmp3 to RIP the CDs.  It uses the internet to get the names of the albums and songs.  My only complaint is that it would put the songs in a directory called Aretha Franklin instead of Franklin, Aretha.  I change this manually after the network download, before the rip.

I got the programs from a PC GOLD UTILITIES DVD that came with a magazine so I don't know where to download them on the internet.

Foobar has a random play that is doing the 5th Dimension now.  I have ripped 4.3 gigabytes so far so I really don't know if it goes forever.  It has a playlist database that looks like this.

001. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] (Last Night) I Didn't Get to [3]
002. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] Love's Lines, Angles and Rhym [4]
003. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] Medley: Aquarius - Let the Su [4]
004. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] Never My Love [3]
005. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] One Less Bellto Answer [3]
006. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] Stoned Soul Picnic [3]
007. 5th Dimension - [Greatest Hits on Earth] Up Up and Away [2]
008. Alpert, Herb - [Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Bra] A Taste Of Honey [2]
009. Alpert, Herb - [Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Bra] Casino Royale [2]
010. Alpert, Herb - [Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Bra] I'm Getting Sentimental Over [2]

Windows mediaplayer has a computer generated light organ that is kind of cool but I stell don't understand how it manages its playlists.  Freeripmp3 and Foobar2000 were a lot easier to figure out.  Hope this helps.  Gotta go listen to Gloria Estefan now.  SORRY!

@Umbrarchist

I'm not sure I understand your post. Are you saying that 'Foobar' would allow someone to record and play music continuosly without stopping and that you can record and play it to a computer? If so, then roughly how do they cost? I must admit I've never heard of it - do you think its just an American thing?

Random is not the same as continuous.

All I want is something that will allow music to play continuosly on the computer, (even if it means I have to configure it to do so), without it stopping and starting, as in repeating, but I'm not sure what that 'something' could be.

I mean is there a software/hardware that would allow me to do that?  :)

Oh and perhaps I should had said, but I meant for only one song/music/tune. So if I had only one song for example, - how can I get to play continuously?

Actually it could go for any number of music, but originally, when I asked my question my question, I only meant it for one song.

Foobar2000 and Freeripmp3 are two separate programs.

Freerip rips the songs from the CD and converts them to mp3 if that is what you want.  It also does wav and ogg vorbis.

Foobar plays the mp3s.  It can be told to repeat ONE SONG, random play or repeat all songs.

The programs a FREE.  I was just saying I got them off a DVD that came with a magazine so I don't know where to find them on the internet.  You will have to search.  If they are available on the internet then national boundaries are irrelevant.

By repeat, I take it you mean that it plays to the end then plays back. Yes?

If so, that is not what I want.

I would like something that would make the song/music/tune run on - continuously - sort of mixed or blended so that the tune etc DOES NOT STOP.

Well obviously it's got to come to an end - but I would like to end when I say so - lol.

So for example, if I had a tape recorder, I could have one track, (peice of music), but because i want it to continue, I perhaps would have to record it again, but I need something that would blend those two tracks together making it sound like one. On a tape recorder, all you can do is tape over the song at the end of the last song, to attempt to make it sound like one, but if its not done good then it could sound choppy.

So I would like something that could blend music more or less perfectly.

But I don't know what that could be or what to look out for. And I would want that something to work on a computer.

Any ideas?

It sounds like you would have to rip the song as a wave file then manually edit it with a sound editor like AUDACITY to make the end and the beginning blend together.  You could then convert that to mp3 and Foobar could infinitely repeat that one song.  It might be better to string 10 copies together and loop on the 10 because there would probably be a slight audible glitch when it restarts.

Considering that so many different songs have so many variations in beginning and end I doubt that a computer could blend them automatically in a way that you would like.  COMPUTERS ARE STUPID and have no taste in music.

lol umbrarchist @ ur 'stupid computer' comment!

Thanks - I'll check out 'Audacity' then. niceone.gif

Btw does anyone  knows what the professional people use - the ones who work in music studios? Some sort of mixing machine? Is it possible to have a home version of that to work on a computer?

The august issue of LINUX FORMAT has reviews of sound editors.  Audacity, Freecycle, Sweep, FreeWheeling, Glame, ReZound and WaveSurfer.  They rate Sweep the best.

LINUX FORMAT claims to be the biggest Linux magazine in England.  Audacity is the only one of these I have heard of and I believe there is a Windows version.

Of course you could always switch to Linux.bighairlol

Thanks for your help. :)
