My very loose theory on why so many men and women are in interracial relationships in the UK-
Back in the day when I was a youth, the black people were relatively poor descending from first generation settlers who had no real support system in a new country to provide some of the basic teenage luxuries that we all craved: ie.desperatley wanting to get that Toshini tracksuit & have enough money to rave etc...
White girls were the meal ticket for many of our brothas. Going to Sloane Square and High St. Kent to pick the many middle-class girls was common fodder-guys between 35-45 should know this one!!
There was also the fascination for both men and women of the 'half-caste' (that's what they called themselves then). This meant for many the enviable position of having a youth with 'coolie hair' and a remarkable cutesy name like Jade or Jermaine!
I know I'm being silly, but if you ask many of my age-groop honestly they would recognise!
That left a void for many black women who for want of a good relaxer were left to fend for themselves, excelling academically- Interestingly a lot of black women in the 35-45 age group born in Britain are nowhigh-income earners with mortgage downpat etc... Probably cos they didn't have a man to tie them down even though that's all they wanted! Some of these women still feel wounded at the supposed 'rejection' of their brothas and have venged never to have one and shacked up with a whiteman instead.
Like a professional friend said to me the other day ' if you want the easy option, marry a whiteman'
Another touchy subject is the fact that when black men go out with white women, they are very quick to dismiss themselves. I have noticed that mixed race-children with black mothers are far more rounded culturally on both sides then the other way round. Any comments?
Recently, there has been a remergence of respect and attractiveness to one another- so many guys who wouldn't look at this coal baby have offered themselves! I don't hate, but for many it feels too little too late.
Many of these guys and girls who looked the other way so long, go to the other extreme and expect way too much out of their novelty black partners, wishing to devour every part of black culture to make up for missing out.

No disses here. Your post is very insightful. I particularly agree with the part I've bolded. I've noticed that,too, here in the U.S. Think there are lots of reasons for it. I don't think that Black women tend to have the same motivation when dating interracially as a lot of Black men do. I don't think we're as apt to be trying to "get away from being Black". More often than not, in the past at least, we've done it more out of a "if u can't beat em,join em" type of mindset. Also, I think that men tend to have a tendency to go the way of the woman they are with, at a given time, even in all Black relationships. They tend to embrace the woman, her children, her family,(ala O.J.)etc, even at the expense of their own biological children,family,sometimes.

Yes there were a few who used to boops white gal and get them to buy car etc. but they were few and far between. So what are ya on about really. For those who are younger your post is misleading. Its the youths now and man young and old that are more dealing with white women than at any other time in this country. White girls were not the meal ticket for many /a minority but never many.

Bro if black women boops a brother then I have no problem whatsoever with that. Unscrupulous women will gravitate towards idiots with money/ or even men who want to spend their money.

I am a South Londoner and am in the same age demographic I am talking about. Hw do you the explain why there are so many mixed-race chidren in England with parents of a similar age, mainly black fathers? I didn't say that all these relationships were built on the theory, because it is only my own experiences and viewpoint. I have a countless amount of black male friends who are with white women. And they only check for white women. There was a whole Jafaican attitude going on with black men regarding who you had to be with(ie banachaeck rantings) that led some seriously good black men away from black women. The hybrid of wanting to enjoy other things other then reggae, jazzfunk,soul and curry goat meant that you were a sell-out or a bounty. These guys accepted this and exposed themselves to other things. Many of them are keen players in the arts and entertainments industries (like myself). As I said, it is only recently that many of them have started to look at black girls again, thanks(?)largely to the sexual acceptance of darker sisters in the media. Many of these guys simply wanted to fit in and in those times, black girls didn't ,in terms of western attractiveness etc.. Of course there were and always have been balanced black men from any age but I ABSOLUTEY DISAGREE that the younger men chase up white girks more. Again, my own experince in brixton (where I 'm from) is that I see a lot more young black couples holding hands and showing people they care about each other. Their crushes are on AA superstars and the like. They travel and integrate without comprimising who they are. There will always be the kids who only want the light-skinned grecian-featured black type, but it's less of a stigma and more of a pubescent ideal of attractiveness intertwined with media popularity. They are not ashamed to like lots of music, arts, food etc.. and do not see it as banacheck to walk into a pub. Do you how many times I am congratulated for being with my black husband for 7 years by black people my age-group? What does that say? They actually think it's a statement we are making?!?
