You obviously haven't read the section on "Ladies Please Read" which could be one of the reasons why you find your hair dull and lifeless!!  offtopic.gif

How long did you try going natural for? I thought it would be difficult too (and to be honest it was challenging, especially after only handling relaxed hair for years). I've been natural for about 5 years (last relaxer was in 97) and I've no regrets :)

the longest was six months. trying to go natural became a hinderance as there was no one who could do my hair -braid cane row etc so i did what was easy. i do want to go natural but will try again some time in the future.

what did you do to transistion your hair and how do style it now. braids and canerows seem to damage my hairline no matter how they are done. ya see i cannot win

hey sis,

I tried (and failed) to go natural twice before I finally did it! I had no clue about how to take care of my natural texture, it was such a battle as I was trying to treat it the same as straight hair and not working with it..

The third and successful time I transitioned for about 10 months and cut off about 4-5 inches of relaxed ends. I had my own hair in canerows and learned to put single plaits extensions myself (that way you havwn't got too-tight braids and raised eyebrows!) If I had to do it again though, I'd have cut it all off sooner.

Now I wear twists most often. Sometimes I wear an afro puff or wear scarves (leaving puff out), I rarely canerow cos like you I often found em too tight. Have you been to http://www.nappturality.com ? It's a good informative site that has a good forum for those transitioning (and those thinking about it)as well as seasoned naturals. It's down at the moment but keep trying, you'll find a wealth of info and moral support there.

One of the best things for me is that I've finally learned to look after my own hair! I was such a salon junkie, I used to go every two weeks without fail, I couldn't even blow dry properly. Now I wash my hair as often as I like (twice a week) and can twist, learning to flat twists and canerow... natural hair is so versatile.

It's an interesting journey with ups and downs and I wish you success on yours :) Please feel fre to ask any more questions you may have :)

thanks for that

i will check out the site. even though i relax i only go to the hairdressers say every 2-3 months sometimes i wil make a trip in between when i want to spoil myself. but i tend to use what they use so i can do treatments at home. know how to pick hair oils and moisturisers that my hair agree with. one day i will wake up and just say enough. though still feel once natural i will be heading for the pressing creme and hot comb lolblkrainbowfro

on the whole natural v realxer debate it's all about choice and you choose whats right for you and it doesn't make you less of a person than someone with natural hair or vice versa

good luck kiki i've realised it's all about maintanence(therefore lots of trips to the hair dresser)

@ M, Agreed, as a man I like the ladies to be natural, the sisters do not realise how many man adore them with the natural look, and I cannot understand how it is easier to manage relaxed hair when you have to go through all those sprays and sh*t, and hair growth after a relaxing is just criminal...

Natural sisters are a dying breed.... They will soon be found in the 3rd hall down on the right at your local museum blktrainers

Good Morning,

Glad I found this site.  Looks good.  My question to you is, I have 100% natural hair, grown out texturizer.  Coping, very well for 61/2 months.  Would like more movement and flexibility.  Have viewed the web about the phytorelaxer.  Is it 100% chemical free - very reluctant to place chemicals in my hair again.  Thanks for that.  ps.  Where can you buy it.

I've had my hair natural for about two yrs and I sure as hell ain't putting no relaxer back in my hair. I keep it in extensions and on a couple of occasions I have had weave. I find the weave grows my hair better because I can keep it in for longer. At the moment I am having a break from extensions and just getting my own hair plaited.

I have bought a straightener from my hair dressers, that straightens my hair wicked. This is now my form of relaxer as it works just the same, but without the chemicals. It cost me £90 but it was money well spent. I would have paid more to get my hair relaxed, and then have it treated every two weeks.

I have had my hair relaxed and natural, personally I like both. One thing I will say is that everyone should try to care for thier hair in it's natural state at least once.
(I did for 5 years and grew my hair to my chin from bing 1/2 inch long ) If you can't care for it in the natural state you will be unperpared to do it with a relaxer. Think of it like a relationship, until you can love and care for yourself how can you add another into your life?

I just went back to a relaxer a year ago and (my hair is now at my shoulders) and is doing very well. I have no doubt that what I learned while having a natural played a big part.

But most important to each his own relaxer/natural remember it is hair nothing more nothing less. Your responsibility is to take care of it the best you can.:cool:

I must warn you that they don't really take to women with relaxers.:( you can regisister to get tips etc but i wouldn't suggest you post

the link again http://www.nappturality.com

I use Pink. I like it better than dark and lovely because it's easier to wash out and it doesn't seem to damage my hair as much. I know that if you deep condition your hair right after you relax it you hair looks more healthy. Try using cholestoral type deep conditioner and use heat for 5 mins or so. I do like dark and lovely's deep conditioner (it comes in a yellow jar/container) it's excellent! niceone.gif

this a totally new topic, ive tried to make my own msge board...but i can't work out how to do so (things were so much simple the last time i surf blacknet!) so sorry for interupting this relaxer msg board, but i wld like to ask...

WHY ARE YOU BUYING YOUR HAIR PRODUCTS FROM THE INDIAN/WHITEconfused3 MAN ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

It's something that i can't get my head around. is it not bad enough that we buy clothes, food and so on from them that we have to buy our own hair products from them. they have totally different hair to ours so they cant even relate to the products that they are selling.

i live in handsworth b'ham. and on the so-ho rd there is a BLACK hair shop that has been there for a few years. and at the start ov this year a indian shop opened selling pretty much same products and pretty much the same prices...and you wanna see the black pple flocking to the new indian shop.

can someone explaine why black pple choose to shop for hair greese and weave (and even bleach...have you no shame?) from "outside" when every black person should know where a BLACK hair shop is. confused3why? why? WHY????!confused3

common pple when it comes to our products.. lets shop with our own pple... anyone agree with me?

p.s. could someone (if you want) create a new msge board dealing with topic on my behalf as i don't know how. thanks. nat.niceone.gif
