Interesting article.
Although true Nymphomaniacs are rare, in my experience they do suffer guilt about the fact that they have too much sex, and hate themselves for it. The ones I;ve encountered all had a borderline personality disorder, and other addictions such as eating disorders or mild to severe OCD(Obsessive Compulsive disorders).
One Nymphomaniac (term now used is sex addict) I counselled had slept with 450 men. She was only interested in them up to the orgasm and felt complete disdain for them thereafter. It was very sad. Living in a small community meant she was very infamous, and so many men just couldn;t help having a go with her, yet they would all later denied they had.
I feel so sorry for these women because they have a very real and damaging problem, yet society tends to see them as a joke. They get very little enjoyment out of sex and are incapable of ever knowing true intimacy. Recovery is very hard for them as they have to learn new ways of relating to men, and its usually very hard for them to forgive themselves.

@Loxie. Spot on. I think a lot of foolish and immature guys actually think havinng a bone fide nympho would be a big turn on, but I feeel sorry for them and most intelligent guys would run.
Saw a French film last week whose name I can't remember where this emotiionally damaged guy is introduced to his mothers world of sexual perversion and madness. Ugly and frightening when sex is confused or is used to fill other major emotional deficiiencies.

Sounds like a Horror Movie....
One of my son;s mates has a very big problem which is due to his Mother;s voracious sexual appetite. I wouldn;t class her as a true Nympho rather one of those women who needs to feel loved so sleeps with anyone.
At a very tender age he would lie in his bed and listen to his Mother;s nocturnal wailing with a never ending flow of different men. One night he could take it no longer and full of murderous rage he beat one of her lovers quite severely.
He suffers with a borderline personality disorder now. All of his conversation ends up being about his Mother;s sexuality. He doesn;t have girlfriends and its obvious that sex disgusts him.
For sure these problems do have far reaching negatiive effects on other people;s lives.

@Loxie. For real. This boy in the film was sheltered from the mothers life. The parents were seperated and he goes there for a couple of weeks holiday. The father dies in a car crash so he has to stay with the mother and exposed to all her free sexual expression antics. The boy emotionally misses the love of a mother given his parent's complex life. So he confuses sex with love and all that .Ends up she kills her self when the boy in his madness starts masturbating while his mother hugs him. She realses what a mess she has helped to create and stabs herself.
But if it could get sicker, in the final scene when is in the hospital/morgue viewing his mother's body. The camera cuts away and in his grief cuts back and he has got his penis out whacking off over his mother's body. Girl, it don't get more sicker and twisted than that in my books.

Women need to be very careful about their sexuality if they;re rearing a boy, especially if she is a single mother and sexually active. All sorts of problems can occur that distort the boy;s mind. Some men are Oedipal which is about their distorted feelings for the Mother. I believe that Elvis Presley had an especially intense relationship with his Mother. Once his wife Priscilla gave birth to their child his sexual interest in his wife came to an abrupt end. He could not see his wife in a sexual way once she became a Mother and that is sad.

Sure you are right sis a lot of boys are delicate and confused around that time of life and need to be sheltered from things and nutured properly. No doubt you are right.

In my view, their is no such thing as a nympho or too much sex. If your having sex with lots of people you probably have more of a self esteem issue then a mental or sexual disorder. The article is very interesting and gives some light on historical ways women's sexuality has been subjected to male domination. In the article itself it shows how a women who has fantasies about other men then her husband is looked at as a freak and abnormal but her husband himself problably had 2 or 3 wives or concubines. Even when they talk about Claudius I, they don't mention that he was a drunk and constantly cheated on his wife with hundreds of concubines, even her sister. He neglected and ignored his wife so much, then after she was brutally murdered, he didnt even realize she was gone until weeks later.
Like I said, if you having unprotected or even protected sex with lots of people then you should slow down but their is no such thing as a nympho. Women have strong sexual yearnings just like men do, its just hard for many to except that because then that means they would have to try harder to satisfy them.

An interesting post I've been reading around this slighty and get the impression some practioners seem to classify all forms of "fetish" such as outdoor sex and masterbation as sex addiction. I do believe some people have problems, the difficulty I think is distingushing between "normal fetishes", high labido and addiction/obsessions.

To answer your question yes there is normally some kind of trauma from the past and it is usually sexual. Some sufferers of borderline personality disorder will display extraordinary levels of promiscuity...and this may not be due to a past sexual trauma. Its a very complex subject.
To say there is no such thing as Nymphomania is like saying there is no such thing as Xmas. Believe me Chubbi C professionals do not lump all sex addicts in one category. I have known (though its rare) Nymphomaniacs who have had sex with 10-12 different men a day. Its like an itch that cant be scratched....they are Never satisfied.
Thats why a true Nympho would be every mans nightmare instead of dream. Who wants a woman you can Never satisfy!

I don't know what the limit is for women, but depending on his age and genetics....men definately do have limits.
I don't think the average man should have sex (ejaculate) more than 5 times a week.
It may drain you of much of your mental, physical, and emotional strength.
The fact that skipping a few days makes you much better in bed and gives you a stronger ejaculation shows that restraining yourself is good for your health.

There is a branch of Yoga called Tantra. Tantra is about the Divinity of Sexuality and it merges Spirituality with Sexuality.

Ahmaad You right about that, say my man goes out of town and we don't have sex for like 2 weeks. When he comes back, he's going to definitly lay it down because he's backed up. I heard coaches telling their players no sex before the big game and to wait after the game because it drains you.

Personally, I think the number of times a man can healthily have sex depends on his testosterone level. Some of us can have sex twice a day, while others get worn out having it only twice a week.
I'm not familiar with those Tantric execercises you mentioned but I've tried those Kegel excercises and they definately work.
