@Kunjufu. Said it before your photograhy is very impressive. No expert but I know what I like and what it conveys to me.

I have one day left in JA before leaving for my part of town, so to speak, and then back to Babylon proper. You have done your country and black people a service with your camera lens. Jamaiaa is a land of so much which is good and inspiring at all levels.

Hard to pick out one photo, but the images of Peter the cabbie and your comments eptiomises Jamacai for me above the bueaty or its natural assetts and resources. The power of many of its people is awe inspiring in terms of their values, outlook cultural groundings.

those are some really nice pics for someone who isn't even semi proffessional.  Maybe you missed a calling?!?!?!  some of those could be good enough for a travel brochure.  ever thought about free lance?

Brings back memories that craft market in mo bay.......I remember when I went there in august 2004 just before Ivan......women calling everywhere for us to buy something from them.....Kunjufu.....You didn't miss a thing by not entering the rose hall.....It was a complete waste of money and time......All they talk about is the american (and yes they're white) owners and what they've done to the house and at the end you get to take a picture of a mirror and supposedly when its developed her face appears in it...But yes you took some great photos some of the places I didn't get to go to in JA but I'll certainly reach when I go next time.....niceone.gif

Lol I really enjoyed watching these pictures even though im not jamaican. Its good to know how and where other people live. However, (NO OFFENSE!) that is not what i expected Jamaica to be! From the way the jamaicans in UK describe their country and the way they treat other black people, i had an idea that Jamaica was some really nice country. However the photos have proved me wrong becos i have gathered that Jamaica is nuthin more special than African countries! (NO OFFENSE!) just my observation (which shocked me!)

African Pride

May I suggest you look at those pictures again and pay particular attention to the notes that Kunjufu has kindly and helpfully placed under each picture.  If after viewing these pictures again you still don't feel that your post is if not laughable but quite disturbing on your part then let me be the first to say there is nothing to be PROUD OF "AFRICAN PRIDE" WHEN SUCH IGNORANCE IS IN FULL EFFECT SUCH AS THAT PROTRAYED IN YOUR POST .  If and I feel it may be the case with you, you have no idea what I am talking about ask yourself if those pictures with their explanatory notes are sufficient for you to draw such an conclusion on the entire island niceone.gif

African Pride: There is a lot of ignorance about Jamaica and dare I say it Africa too....That is why people need to pick and go see for themselves... You might also be surprised to know that most of them people who call themselves jamaican in this country, are NOT representative of Jamaica or the mentality of that country.. So if you're tekking your guidence from fools yu mus expek to be ignorant(no offence).

@KunJufu @MafDet

Hmmmmmmmmm...?

Ignorance...?

Perhaps... perhaps not...

@All

...LOL...

But... let's decode the language... which... was meant to be on a negative tip... in order to disrespect... insult... and cause disharmony...

*S*

"...that is not what i expected Jamaica to be! From the way the jamaicans in UK describe their country and the way they treat other black people, i had an idea that Jamaica was some really nice country. However the photos have proved me wrong becos i have gathered that Jamaica is nuthin more special than African countries..."

So...

...LOL...

From the way that Jamaicans go on... and treat other people... Jamaica is a "nice" country... and that is "nice" in generic terms of "...Good... ...Pretty..."... as a positive affirmation of condition... personality... or statis...

But then we have the statement that Jamaica is no more special than African countries...

Hmmmmmmmm...?

So... we have the very concrete implication and inference... of course... noting the past tense... and I might add... lie... that Jamaica is NOT a "nice" country...

And...

...Hmmmmmmmm...?

...Since "not" "nice" is commonly defined as HORRIBLE... then suddenly Jamaica is no more special in than other African countries...

Hmmmmmmmmm...?

Decode the ploy... in an obvious attempt to counteract the pictures that KunJufu has posted... showing a largely unmixed... African population in Jamaica... looking happy... smiling... beautiful environment... no bruk down infrastructure... no people lying on the street...

And check the woeful attempt to rather unsubtly... undermine... and inject a current of negativity by this pseudo...

***Scratches head***

Speaking of pseudoes...

...LOL...

Same game... different tactics...

Where's NativeTongue...?

*S*

@ Ijexa/Mafdet/Kunjufu

I would take 'African Pride's' comments with a pinch of salt. In fact I take them with the same regard that I take this poster who calls him/herself 'African Pride..........VERY LITTLE.

Hey AF, if you were any more transparent you would be invisible! You know what I am talking about don't you? ;)

@ Kunjufu
By the way, I just love the pics and the commentary. I hope this becomes a regular theme for the boards when people visit African/Black countries. At least we are presenting images which don't set out to pamper to the stereotype.

Respect

Kunjufu, the pix are of an excellent quality with exceptional clarity. I have recently upgraded from a 3.2mp Sony DSC P71 to a semi-pro 5.2 mp Sony DSC V1. I have also bought a 5.1 million mega pix Sony DSC W12 (slightly more 'lifestyle' than the V1). I have found the jump in quality from the 3.2mp to the 5million mega pix sensational. If you are going to upgrade from a 4mp I suggest you go 6+, maybe the 7mp Sony DSC P150 or the amazing 8mp Nikon Coolpix 8800.

This the outside of 'Rose Hall' Within the Parrish of St James, This is the plantation house of a former Slave owner.. who it is alleged treated her slaves very very badly indeed.. According to the locals she came to a sticky end and is said to haunt the place..

Unfortunately I arrived one of the flippin few days that this place decided to close early, fortunately the guard allowed the privilage of taking this one shot before I left.. The ground which is huge is now a golf pitch for the very rich and tourists.

CANEROW-
i can finally see the pics bringing back memories of my visit , last time i went i did manage to go into Rose Hall , lots of pictures inside from vistors that show ghostly images in their photos , particularly in the room which was her bedroom. She was suppose to have had i think 3 husbands all of which she killed and was looking for her 4th i believe..legend states she is till searching for next husband / victim. So male vistors are supposed to mindful of that so lucky you got away Heh ! Heh ! However she really was supposed to be a wicked into voodoo and apparently set huge bear traps all over her property, then ride around at night on a horse dressed as some ghostly image and chase after the slaves till they got caught in the bear traps.
I cant wait to go back hopefully get to see a little bit more of Jamaica, sooner rather than later.

Numair: i hear you, my next camera will need to have widelens for those wide angle shots, good optican zoom and as you say 7 million plus pixels minimum....

Kunjufu Thanks for the beautiful pictures!

Jamaica is truly a beautiful land, infact seeing your pictures has inspired me to go and see it for myself even thought i know nobody there, but i could always go with my friend who comes from Jamiaca!clp)

Have noticed that Black people inhabit the most mysterious and beautiful parts of the world, it would be great if we are all able to make the most of our lands!niceone.gif

I LOVE Jamaica!:D

I've been to Treasure Beach-it has the saltiest water ever!

I dont think I have been to YS Falls (I'm sure I have...but cant remember). It looks better than Dunns River-for a number of reasons.

I Miss Jamaica :(
