| I was speaking with a female that is about to leave the school that I attend; she is going back to Arizona. She told me that she wanted a picture of me before she left or she wanted to take one of me. This is where the situation comes in. Every time I take a picture, it just does not look like me. I dont know what it is about them. I always look bigger and even ugly at times. Not trying to sound pompous, but People tell me that I am a handsome young man, and when I look in the mirror and then the camera, it is like I am looking at two different people. The same thing with a camcorder. For the proffesional photographers out there and for the people that know a thing or two about cameras, is their a principal about a camera as far as adding any weight to somebody or making them look different. How come when one looks in the mirror they get a totally different look than opposed to them looking at a picture or seeing themselves through the eyes of a camcorder. I really do want to give my friend a photo of me, but I cannot think of a time when I have ever took a good picture because they just dont look like me. Does any one feel the same way and if any one knows why your wisdom would greatly be appreciated. Let me clarify look like me. I mean they dont look exactly like me. Yes that can happen different dynamics involved your eye and your mind is probaly trained to see yourself in still images like the mirror when you look at images from the 'outside person piont of veiw ' it looks different,The same thing with a camcorder not used to seeing a moving, talking you. Be in natural light outside do not take pictures which cut off at the joint like knees or waist. How come when one looks in the mirror they get a totally different look than opposed to them looking at a picture or seeing themselves through the eyes of a camcorder. What you have to understand, sounds funny but it true is that the image shown in the picture is you what the outside world sees not the perception you have in you head ever heard of overweight ladies not realising they are overweight until they see a picture of themselves.

Not necessarily true agape, I have several friends and who when I take pictures of them it does not look like them.
I am outside looking at them in the flesh and I am also outside looking at the picture and it looks different. For what ever strange reason I dont know, the camera does them no justice.
Me? I always look like me...

Its about her not you.
Just allow the picture to be taken, for her sake.
How you judge your photo's may not necessarily be how she'll see it.

| I don't Being photogenic is a skill, it has a lot to do with setting, lights and the photographer. A good photographer can make an ugly person look good.

Ye i think thats tru cause everytym i get a pic i luk totaly diff aswel i eitha luk alot lighter skinnd or somtyms i luk blick lyk midnite! I jus think u shld try again n if u cnt den jus let her hav woteva pic of u lol

| Yes.. I think it is about angles and lighting. Daylight is different from 'artificial light'. Also when pictures are taken from a particular angle, your features and proportions of each part of your face may look different , like, if you are faced more to the left or right. Also it depends where the light reflects off your face, it can make certain parts of your face look bigger or smaller or broader or more defined. That's why photographers put so much emphasis on lighting and all those 'acccessories' are used... In modelling, sometimes it takes a long time to get the right shot and pose... you can't just take the picture and go. If you are taking photos as an amature (like with a disposable camera) or don't have access to the things that a proffessional have, including being able to digitally alter the photo, don't be surprised. I think it's lighting, coz natural daylight is the best... sometimes the lightening in a room can be a bit dim in comparison, dull even. Last edited on Wednesday May 25th, 2005 14:03 by calisto

Lighting plays a part in it, angle and the clothes you are wearing. Also, the camera image...whether still photograph or video camera adds about 5 pounds (general rule) to your image. It is actually a fairly widely known and accepted fact (may sound crazy just is). It is also one of the reasons models and actors watch there weight so carefully. If you are pure muscle you would look about 5 pounds denser/beefier. I have met people, I have seen in film or passed by a director who was in his own film and looked beefy and big on the screen and when I see him he looks quite small. The same reason why people also say wow...you look so much better in person (sometimes this is not the case..and thats very unlucky for that person). One day I saw Michael Clarke Duncan...I was expecting this guy to be a huge brick sh*t house...he wasn't. Now if you are soft on the edges...you will look 5 pounds fluffier. Ultimate solution...maybe work out to sharpen your features or tone up...or something simpler get in some great lighting...do not wear white clothing or too light or pale a color of clothing....because it will make you look fatter...if you wear black or darker clothing it gives the illusion/impression of being slimmer...a liitle more sculpted. Hopefully my two pennies help.
Also never...ever..send a busted picture of yourself to any girl. NEVER EVER....repeat after me..."I will not send a busted picture of myself, nor will I send a picture that misrepresents my killer good looks and god given charms". I agree it is about her and you need to give her a good picture of yourself. You are giving her a keepsake...an effigy of yourself in the picture, so she can look at it, remember you, and say hey..."this is my friend" and people say.."wow...who is that." She will be proud to show your picture and you will have friends you don't even know before you set foot in AZ when you visit her.
I have one question for you. If you had a busted picture of her would you be eager to post it up in an obvious place for your friends to see? If you had a dead sexy, or just simply beautiful picture of her would you be more apt to leave it out...how much more often would you pull out that picture and look at it...to spark the memory of her. Okay, that was more than one question. Don't half step on yourself. You owe it to yourself and to her to put your best foot forward and look like yourself in the picture. If people say you look good...and its unsolicited...then it is true. In this case believe what your eyes are showing and make the adjustment...look good for her.
