I came across this forum looking for the black perspective on the events of Hurricane Katrina - In particular the events surrounding New Orleans. A city where I have family (and in MS) and that has long been close to my heart. After reading some of the "opinions"expressed here, I have to wonder what the heck is going through some of the minds of many of the posters here. All I see is blame this person, blame the white man, blame the Mexicans, blame the Asians. Whitey this cracker that, spik & chink the other. The impressions I get from most of the posts I see are almost that of a collective paranoia. One in which all non-black people seem to be constantly looking for someway in which to put the black man down. Then of course you have the added delusion that all could be made right by tearing down current society and replace it by one defined by your vision of black superiority. All I have to say is grow-up. While I won't deny that racism is alive and well in America and in many other countries, it is hardly the cause of all of the ills of black society in the US today. Were are the posts calling for our people to take responsibility for our actions; responsibility for educating our own; responsibility for trying to provide opportunity to those coming behind us? Where are the posts that say that most people of other ethnicities couldn't give a rat’s ass any socio-ethnic group other than their own (or that which immediately affects them). We can't go around blaming everyone for the shortcomings of our communities or for the ill hand we've been dealt. You want change, then work for the change and earn it, and make sure to pass the lessons learned and opportunities created to our own. We sit here and make excuses for the people that engaged in vandalism in New Orleans, and while I agree that looting to get necessities for survival was acceptable, what was the necessity behind stealing Electronics, alcohol and other non-survival goods? What was the need for trying to break into hospitals? What was the need for raping other poor people that were in the same situation as you? Sorry but we can't blame anyone else for this behavior, but our own community. My aunt and uncle in N.O. evacuated only last Friday night and only after spending the better part of the week holed up in one of the flooded hospitals, working to keep their patients alive. Like many many others they didn't know where my cousins were or what happened to their home, but they stayed and helped anyway. That is what black people are supposed to be doing, not sitting behind PC's belly aching about how bad we've got it and blaming everyone else. With all the racism and valid negative circumstances surrounding the black experience in America, black people in this country still have more opportunities to achieve and improve their lot than they do in practically any part of the world. I say that from experience, for I'm one of them. More of us should quit our bellyaching, grow up, and start living up to the type of positive changes we'd like to see in our communities. Now feel free to call me names or ban me if you will. - Isthmus-

Isthmus I agree with you on some of the things you say, but you have to understand black folk are still suffering the reverbarations of Slavery and its affect on our present state and probably generations to come.
White folks are not the cause of everything, but as a collective everything the White race puts its hands on is destroyed. As a person of color I can't forgive them for their history and what they did to my people. This is why we say He is the problem. We were fine when we never encountered a White person, now that He has his tentacles in/on everything he still remains the puppeteer. So understand our frustration before you criticise.
OH AND BY THE WAY YOU'RE BANNED.

Two things.
First, he doesn't make any unreasonable points. Granted, he made them after a brief observation at the tone of the posting, but they are not unreasonable.
And second (this is addressed to the post preceding mine),
The United States is not a "foriegn country," to the blacks living here. To us, it is home. Our parents grew up here, our grandparents grew up here and so on and so forth. Is it perfect? No. Is it racist? Yes. But it is still our country and we still have a responsibility to improve things.
Yes we have it hard here, but Isthmus is right, it doesn't mean that you automatically absolve the community of any responsibility.

Why do people make posts and go on about 'I don't care if I am banned?". Why post then if you are not bothered about sticking around? Also, why has it got to be the case that you are banned? Read our guidelines. It doesn't say that banning is a daily exercise carried out just for fun. Banning is done in extreme cases and is actually very rare. Such comments usually suggests that the person is going to either insult and abuse the intelligence of people here or simply rant.
Well this poster has achieved all three. In response I will say.
"Isthmus, take time to actually read a few threads, (meaning the posts within them not just the headings). Research the site a bit instead of so lazily making assumption after assumption about what this site is about. After that maybe you will be better placed to come and have a sensible debate on any (hopefully not all in a single post thread) of the issues you feel qualified to wax lyrically about."
In the meantime I will park this thread in a suitable place.

By calling anyone with negroid features African or Africoid the whites can conceal the true history of the blacks who actially lived on every continent before they were transported around the world as slaves.
For example, in the US there is evidence of several pre-Indian black tribes.
This is never mentioned in history books.
