Some of the complaints made by individuals, and organizations about a ’pervading racism’ in our British society might be justified. Indeed, racism does exist in modern Britain, but to which degree?
In my opinion, most people, including employers and teachers, look beyond the colour of someone’s skin. Racism serves as an excuse for not coping with work, school or life in general. This statement is based upon my belief that Britain has become a society where people are given the freedom to think for themselves. We are, as British citizens, allowed to make our own opinions about things. The vast majority of us, I believe, thinks rationally enough not to judge a person on the colour of his or her skin. Yet, the fact remains that a large number of researchers, activists and others hold on to the claim that our British society, still today, possesses an overwhelming number of people with racist intentions. Even official institutions, such as the police, are being condemned as being racist.
The statement that modern Britain is, in essence, a racist society, is one that really undermines the British common values, and her tradition of solidarity. After all, we are a united nation; we share certain aspects of Britishness. It is my sincere belief that most persons migrating to Great Britain, will be able to take part in that Britishness, and thank God that he has come to this land, where all are welcome, and free to partake in the British tradition.

| Yes, because I don't like being told to shut up, but maybe that's just me. I am merely interested in reactions to a certain viewpoint, that's all. I'd like to see more sides of the case, but that seems difficult.

Olav,
I put your post in the bin yesterday, and I am going to do it again today...
and these are the reasons why
a) Most of the people on Blacknet are going to find this a patronising comment... if we truly felt integrated into British society, their would be no need for Blacknet, Ligali, New nation, the Voice, or any other Black/African focused groups or media to exist in the first place.
b) Whether I have spiritual inclinations or not; the statement of a united nation seems a very naive one at that. Do actually read any news media? There is another post which I could provide the link for that give details of racially motivated crimes that are perpertrated against 'us' immigrants... and general crimes that affect the populace - would that be indicative of a united nation to you?
c)The Validity of racism in Britain just seems like a thread that only someone either hopelessly idealistic or ignorant would ask...
d)Most of the nations who were colonised had the privlidge of experiencing British tradition first hand... shame they couldn't have actually taken the time to experience African tradition.

To clarify. I like acertaining a persons out look and perspective on life just from the way they answer questions or the tones with which they adopt.
This forum is excellent for providing an out let for the disgruntled black people of society. You're all so angry it's amazing. Keep going everyone.
