have you ever been walking down the street with a white person and suddenly a white man or woman walks up and asks for directions to a certain place.
did the white person direct the question to your white companion alone or to you both?
the other day i and my girlfriend were walking to the tube station when a chinese woman asked for directions.
she directed the question to my girlfriend who is white but because she doesnt live in my area she said sorry i dont live round here.
i then gave the woman directions who said thanks and walked away.
95% of the time when i am walking with a white person and we are approached by a white person, the white person always asks the white person the question.
i sometimes feel that its a sign that the conflict between black and white is always there and that some white people dont even want to communicate with a black person.
i dont know if its because some people are afraid or too proud to talk to black people or whether they feel more at ease talking with someone who they feel more at ease with?
im sure many a black man and women have asked themselves that question?
i bet if a test was conducted
at least 95 per cent of white people would ask the white person the question and ignore you even though you may know the name of the road the person is asking for.
Couldn't see why this was in the Poetry section of all places. However, couldn't think of where best to put it other than the Dustbin. Does anyone disagree?
