NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) -- The 20-year-old son of Anna Nicole Smith died while visiting his mother in the hospital where the reality TV star and former Playboy playmate had given birth last week, a Bahamas police official said Monday.
Daniel Wayne Smith was visiting his mother in her room at Doctors Hospital in Nassau when he died Sunday, Reginald Ferguson, assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamian Police Force, told The Associated Press. He said an autopsy was under way.
Smith arrived Saturday night in the Bahamas, and apparently went directly to the hospital where he spent the night in his mother's room, Ferguson said.
"It would appear from our report that the mother had gotten up, saw him in the chair and he appeared to be sound asleep," he said. "She tried to wake him up, he was unresponsive, and she sounded the alarm."
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene, Ferguson said.
Anna Nicole Smith, 38, gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 9-ounce girl at the hospital Thursday, her Web site said.

I only just heard about this half an hour ago.....someone e-mailed me coz I used to watch Annas reality show coz she was sooooo spaced out she used to give me mad jokes,but the thing which always struck me was how well adjusted and bright her son was....in spite of his Mother.
I cant really think of anything much more brutal happening to a Mother than giving birth to your first girl,then having your son die mysteriously in the same room where you have just brought in this new life.
You go from elation to devastation in the space of 3 days.
Well at least he got to meet his sister before he departed.
Just goes to show you how random and brutal life can be sometimes......and it doesnt matter how many millions of bucks she has to insulate herself, best believe she is going through 12 different types of hell right now.
Anyway thats my piece....i'm sure Kunjufu will be along to delete this thread shortly as it doesnt pertain to anyone African,not even tenuously.However,at least it's in the right section.
However it does pertain to random unbelievable pain,which many of us might have or will experience at some point or other.
RIP Daniel.
PS:Just thought of tenuous African connection................
the same funeral home which is handling Daniels body is the same one which handled Ailiyahs after the plane crash.
