How pathetic we must look to the world trying to claim everyone as Black simply because they have an ounce of African blood. I even here misguided folks call people black like...
Mariah Carey (1 dropper)...

High profile Arabs...

Mixed people if they don't specifically & explicitly identify with Africans/Blacks...

Those who don't want to be Black...

This list could go on & on. Some of our claims are based on emotion, religion, plain stupidity, or all of the above. Let's stop claiming everyone as black, especially if they don't identify themselves specifically as such. It is really pathetic...

| I agree with you 100%! And the blacks in america love to claim anyone who may have african ancestry as black. Black americans especially have an obsession with trying to allign themselves with latinos no matter how white they appear such as JLO and Jessica Alba even though these latinos tend to be very racist towards us. And I remember when blacks tried to claim paula abdul as black and got mad just because she wanted to claim her real race. I just don't see why can't blacks just be happy with who they are and stop obsessing over trying to claim every group of lightskin folks. I say lightskin because black people never try to form an alliance with other darkskin folks including africans who look just like us.

To last poster..
I hear what you're saying...but do you understand what the one drop rule was....?
Many black people have family members who have same appearance as some of the pictures in this thread...are they to disown family memebers?
to first poster......I hear what you're saying.....but how does alicia keys, of all people fit into category of mixed race person who doesn't specifically identify with Blacks?
what is that based on?

I agree
If we just call people what they are there will be a lot less confusion and dissapointment going on..
but skin bleach and weave dosent mean someone is no longer black so I dont agree about Michael Jackson and lil kim..
You also said,
Let's stop claiming everyone as black, especially if they don't identify themselves specifically as such
Are you saying its o.k to call "some" people black? If they identify as black
such as Malcom X and Bob Marley

| I believe that anyone who has black heritage is partly black, and if they want to be called black then i will came them black, and be proud of it. Like Alicia keys, I identify her as black because she has said in numerous interviews that she is a young black woman, and I respect that and have no right to tell her she's not black. I understand there are also those who use the black term when it suits, which is stupid. I Mariah wants to identify as black like her father is black then thats cool with me.

If Alicia Keys was to say she wanted to call herself mixed race but not black, would you respect that also?
