I think most Black Americans or Black people in general outside of Africa believe that the only type of african is dark skinned, broad nose, big lips, kinky hair and if you don't look like that your not pure Black. Not true, Africa has the most phenotype opportunities which makes Black Africans the most diverse group of people on the planet. There are light skinned, carmel, light brown mocha, dark brown, deep dark brown Africans. Here are pictures to celebrate Beautiful Black African women of all shades:

I would crawl over broken glass to get to those women, they look MI-TEE-fine.
Alright maybe not broken glass, but they look good all the same.
You haven't been spending time over at those 'classify that' forums have you? Y'know the ones with phrases like 'modified west African nose', 'n stuff like that.

All African women are fine but there is nothing better than waking up laying next to dark skin - but I also appreciate this is a personal complex of mine. All african wome are fine but when I think of my wife I only see a dark skinned woman .
Personal issues aside, the African female is truly a lovely being...even non Africans think so

Nana525,
I remember being exposed to what was called beauty . As a kid, I was raised around the Farrah Fawcett era and remembering that every White girl on my street wanting to have her blonde hair and wearing her clothes. I was also raised around people of color----But not too many Black people and I was looking at some fo them( South Indians, Asians and Arabs) and admiring their looks. Then in my own Black family, I remembered my mother telling us stories about how her aunt used to say that two dark skinned people shouldn't have children should have chidlren because they will ( I'm so ashamed at what she said) prodcue monkeys or with some other relatives they wanted their kids to have lighter skin and/or long " good" hair( and they still do it).
Thinking about things like that is why some Black women feel bad about themselves. Media may play a role in how we should look and feel about ourselves, but WE play even a bigger role into it as well. We influence our children the most. I see White standard of beauty being around me all of them the time , but it's even worse when I'm around people ( such as my late great aunt) who is coonstantly around saying what is pretty and what is not. We are what we make our kids. It's one thing for them to see White standards of beauty around them, but when we're telling them about it, how are they suppose to feel? When we do that, that is all the child will know and understand. I have often thought that ALL standards of beauty should be celebrated. Anybdy can be beautiful.
