sometimes it is necessary to stop things getting out of hand and to stop offensive posts being made.  is that not part of the mods job?

depends on your definition of "heavy".  Usually the ones who don't like it are the ones who post the most offensive things.

No, Not "because i say so" because i am not a mod.  I also said it depends on your definition.  Truth be told, i think the mods let alot of things slide or let the mgo on too long before doing something about it.

Its like the child who throws a tantrum because they are prevented for doing something naughty!

Besides, alot of people post things they KNOW will be inflamatory, then qualify what they meant at a later period when people have already complained.

What do the mods let slide, give an example

How do you know they know it will be inflamatory?  Is everything that is heavily moderated "naughty"?

Do you have thin skin?  Are you easily offended?  So if I post a simple LOL, do you get offended OOOORRRR, do you get offended because it is I who posted?

the thread about "sell out black women"

How do you know they know it will be inflamatory?  Is everything that is heavily moderated "naughty"?

there have been a number. Put it this way.  Someone will post a title then say very litle in the opening thread.  or they will post an article they KNOW will offend some people (not necessarily the above example, there are other examples) and ask opinions without offering their own.  It is only when other posters have chastised them or a mod has intervened that they have clarified their original intent.  Therefore they KNEW they were being inflamatory, and just sat back with th popcorn and watched the fur fly!  Obviusoly, if a mod feels the need for "heavy moderation" then some aspect of the post must be "naughty".  The mods are not Nazis, squashing ALL free speech.

Do you have thin skin?  for the internet?  No

Are you easily offended? for things that are INTENDED to cause me offence, either as a woman, a black person, or both, then yes.  By silly little pieces of stupidness?  no.

So if I post a simple LOL, do you get offended OOOORRRR, do you get offended because it is I who posted?

DSP i am not offended by you personally.  However, if someone posted something i found to be offensive, and you posted an LOL, laughing WITH that person rather than AT them, then yes i would be offended by that post, but not as much as by the post itself.  If you saw someone being racially abused and another person laughing at the abuse, would the person who found it funny not cause you offence as well as the person doing the abusing?  it is a hypothetical question, i am merely making a point.

why are you being so ridiculous?!?!  you know full well a post about eating popcorn would not be deleted, and if it were, it would only be because it was pointless and space wasting, not because it was offensive.

In fact i spoke to one of the mods about having a "village" for pointless silly posts, as sometimes the light hearted topis are out of place among the more serious ones.

DSP; sorry but you're so full of you know what.... you've have been told more than once that it is NOT appropriate to be adding your tiresome popcorn gag to every flippin THREAD just because YOU think its funny.. I advised you BEFORE that posting that type of gag  where there is a serious debate going on is not appropriate and it belittles and trivialises the issue at hand.. So you are fully aware WHY it has been remove..

On the thread in which you're now b**ching about, I clearly warned people that if they were off topic I would REMOVE their post without warning...THAT advise was clearly given BEFORE you posted, you read and decided to take the piss... Next time you do that or try to yundermine the team, I'll just remove you for a week rather than clean up after you...ok

oh contrar..... yes it would...

so if YOU post a regular LOL,  it's not taking up space, but if it relates to popcorn it takes up space.  Now how do you determine that what's worth keeping or deleting in that regard?  Lay out the logic for me.

to be fair, i did not know you were referring to an actual post you had made.  I did not know what you were referring to until i read Kunjufus above post.  However i must confer with K. Sometimes in a serious debate it is not approrpiate to add an LOL or comment about popcorn.  It is no better than the children in the playground who stand around goading on a fight.  If you have something constructive to add, then add your voice to the debate.  Other wise LOLs and popcorns are nothing more than sh*t stirring devices.

I am sure you re intelligent enough to comment in a serious debate in which you have strong feelings, DSP.  If you have no opinion one way or another, i really don't see what an lol or popcorn comments adds, other than to wind people up.

Of course "confer" with authority... but someone else can post LOL and it's all good.  Then again what do I know. I'm full of "you know what"

i "concur" because i agree.  If i did not agree then i would say yes, it was heavy handed to delete it.  Now that i think of it, maybe the mod on question could have posted a note/comment in the thread asking people to refrain from such posts in serious issues if they have nothing else to contribute.  As for your comments about someone else posting a "lol" and it being allowed to stand, i cannot comment.  Like i say, i did not see the thread/post you are referring to.  I can only respond to what you tell me in this thread.  Seems to me you are not really "sore" about your post being deleted, but rather that another similar on was allowed to stand. which i do agree seems like a double standard.  If that isthe case, then take it up with a Mod.

DSP; you know its simple you have choices to use other Forums if this one is NOT to your liking...you can go to other forums and continue to b**ch about us there..you appear to be rather good at that...

btw in your myopic take of events you amazingly forgot to add that Safety was replying to your original flippant comments about the Moderation team containing that thread..... which I let slide in the first place, but NOT the second time..and NOT after you reposted the gist of that thread, you knew had been taken out of public circulation because of a complaint..I also noticed that too and I wasn't impressed by that one little bit...But i suppose you're now going tell me that was an example of our double standards and NOT yours......Sorry DSP but I'd have more respect for your view if you didn't speak with fork tongue...

Kunjufu, you just illustrated an earlier point i had made about people posting things they KNOW to be inflmatory.  DSP tried to act all innocent by claiming that some people may not realize that their posts are inflamatory.  Yet he reposted something that he KNEW had been locked due to a COMPLAINT.  Therefore he was being inflamatory and he knew it.  So he is kind of stepping all over his own point...

No point in b**ching on another board when I can say what I feel right here.  I'm not a behind the back kind of person.  What's the point in that  when you can't see it. Anyway, I'm not angry about it.  It wasn't that serious to get emotional about, but I just didnt' feel it was right either way, no hard feelings on my part.  You know, being uptight is unhealthy.   Just an FYI.
