I could almost take this seriously if all of your posts here were chaste and Monk-like.
So please before you all pass out from lack of oxygen-you know it's high altitude up on that moral high horse-let's just keep those clips in perspective.
If the people who object to it so vehemently are serious then we should ban pictures and clips across the board of both men and women,ban all comedy attachments with the F word in them of which there have been many of late,ban all chat about women and men and their forms-full stop,because any of those things can be deemed disrespectful depending on your sensibilites.
I personally do not believe a line has been crossed with this thread,neither do I think it's the thin end of the wedge,i'm quite confident that anything really unsavoury or any particular type of content which was posted incessantly,would soon get shut down by the Mods,that's what they are there for.

Actually Facetygal..that is a fair point & fair comment, regarding the Dancehall thread....We (the mods) did fail to act on that one...Personally I actually missed it all together..and only realised its existence when Ijexa flagged it up...Now the reason I missed it was down to a combination of things (1) I was studying hard and doing Essays and just missed it.. (2) with the sheer volume of posts we get here Threads do come and go very quickly.....Not that this is an excuse but that is essentially what happened. I know that the others who did contribute on that particular post recognise that this was an error Judgement, and I cannot imagine that they would do a similar thing again.. But on that I'd like to personally Apologise because that thread should have not been allowed to stand fullstop..

I wasn't bothered about that thread, and I'm not bothered about this thread, I just wanted to show the different responses and reactions between the two. Fair enough mods never saw it but the same people who are commenting on this thread are probably the same people who commented on the other thread, but were saying something totally different. You know my favourite word is hypocrite, but anyways mek me shet me mout.

I actually think this thread is a good one. I don’t mean from the point of view of the images (which I can’t see anyway because the link is barred on this stupid work computer) but from the debate that has come about.
Though I can’t see the pictures, from the descriptions I can understand why there are those who say they are fairly harmless. Yes, in of themselves there may be little there to complain about: The women are happily taking part, they are not exposing anymore than you would see on a beach and hey, they even get some financial reward (well the winner does at any rate), or other work opportunities perhaps, from it. So on that basis it is hard to argue that there is anything overtly wrong with the images and thus with allowing them to form a thread on BN, purely and simply for a bit of ‘visual relaxation’.
However, that is looking at it from the narrow perspective of these particular pictures shown at this particular time, and without taking account of the ‘possible’ wider ramifications of allowing it to stand as a feature of these boards. Another thing about the ‘narrow perspective’ is that it fails to consider a question that should play a part in most any decision we take, namely “What is the purpose of it, what benefit does it serve�. I must admit the latter question is one I labour on and probably fuels much of my ‘prejudice’ against such things as beauty contests, pageants and that industry called ‘Fashion Modelling'. I just can’t see the point of them all and am hard pushed to see where it would be detrimental to Society’s interest if they didn’t exist. But that’s me.
In terms of this particular thread (i.e. to display these images) the question of what benefit it serves is quite important…..I will deal with the wider ramifications later.
What purpose does it serve Black Net to have such threads? To give our male members (and possible some of our female members) a thrill? But aren’t there already lots of other arenas catering to such ‘needs’? Magazines, newspapers, MTV and other websites? Why does it need for BN to jump in on the act? What is wrong with us being above that? It doesn’t stop those who desire that stuff from getting their fill of it, it just means that it is not a aspect of BN experience. And that is not coming from a ‘prudish’ perspective, just one that questions the point of it all, if not to serve our wider objectives.
Sure, the images may not break the ‘BNV rules’ in terms of decency and respect, but is that all that matters? How about the whole purpose of BN as a site and the ‘image’ and ‘ethos’ it stands for and tries to promote? That ethos definitely should champion the fine qualities of our women (and men) and extol their worth and value, but isn’t that better achieved without dwelling (even in the odd thread here and there) on mere ‘physical attributes’?
I find black women the most gorgeous, sexy and down right mouth watering specimens of feminine appeal, of all women, but that is just one aspect of their appeal to me. So why do I need to parade ‘fine booty African women’ in the wider public arena? Because it demonstrates how much I love and am proud of my fine African woman?
So that is what the editor’s of the Sun have been doing all these years, showing how proud they are of their fine ‘blond, big chested sisters’……I see.
Look, we all know from evidence that these kind of ‘parades’ (no matter how discrete the attire) do little more than cater to the (man’s) basic instinct to clamour after ‘sublime feminine flesh’. That men want to oogle and the women concerned want to take part is down to the individual. It’s their choice and so be it. However, if it was down to me as to where BNV should stand on the issue, I would say, Not For Here.
This site should be about taking our women (and men) more seriously and leaving the frivolities to the numerous other sites and mediums which already (more than adequately) cater for those particular ‘needs’
Wider implication? For me I feel that once the argument is won for ‘one harmless thread with pictures which are not over the top’ to stand, it opens the door for the next one (a level up) and the next one (a level up) to get through. Before long it becomes the fashion for threads with ‘booty-this and booty-that’ to appear all over the boards. I exaggerate you say? But isn’t that how these things go? Bring something down to the core basics and see it proliferate.
Wider implications? Look at the kind of commentary and the comments (usually male) that accompany these ‘displays of fine booty’. Are they indicative of the kind of attitude you (as an African woman, or as an African man who respects African womanhood) are happy with? I am not talking about just finding African woman attractive and appealing (sure we African men should definitely feel that way about our women) but about speaking of them in a way which demonstrates we see no further than the ‘goods on display’.
Wider implication? Could things get to the stage where the only ‘appreciation’ we can give to our African women comes in the form of admiring them for the amount of ‘eye-candy’ that comes from their physical attributes. That would be a pity, especially if we tend to complain about them other respects such as their ‘attitude’. Is this the way to lift up and show pride in our women.
You may say it is going over the top to take something that is ‘harmless’ and ‘just a bit of fun’ too much to heart, but don’t be fooled. These things matter, because in subtle ways they can erode the strong meaningful bonds African men should be building with African women. The fact they look ‘hot’ is a bonus on top of all their other great qualities, but let’s not get absorbed in just the one attribute.

@All Breadfruit, Backatya and Kunjufu. Agree to the absoulte max and I have always held this position and it has nothing to do with sexism or political correctness but my own experience and observations and long time ago. Whether we want to accept it or not I think constanly and over exposure to women in that way had a very negative affect on how men see women.
And the same time negatively affects men and their expectations. The issue to me is not even about quibbling over is this image worse than that one, or even what sisters who I have time for say. Nothing to do with it. Simply what I know and have seen the impacts this sh*t has.
I believe and in line with Backatya when I say me love a black woman to scorn always have and always will, but hate seeing them portrayed in this manner. Better pay money and go on holiday or go to a beach or see women in real life I say.
Don't care about white women as I have nothing invested in them...But I do have very strong feelings about our women doing it, even if nobody is forcing them and they are making a good living out of it.
I would never have any of those pictures in any space where I control. Simple as.
