Not all black men are like that love, I got a bredrin that says the darker the better! In fact I have nuff good looking, educated, hard working, black male friends that don't acknowledge anyone but beautiful black, strong, independent women.
Obviously dem guys in ur college are looking trophy fe put pon dem arm with that comment that they made, so how serious do u think they are about them gals and would u really want a man like that?
You seem like u got ur head screwed on, u got a lot going for urself, and u seem to be quite mature. So why u worrying about what likkle bwoys are saying? At least speak to a guy that is gonna give u a better reason than that as to why they prefer light skinned women, or women of different races, maybe someone who doesn't go to ur college.
Black beauty it's dat kinda attitude why a black man is walking past u instead of with u. If u feel like that about men then tun lesbian and u won't have a problem will u? Or are u then gonna b**ch cos a black gal is walking past u too? Maybe it's u that needs to fix up, look sharp, and chat sense!

Just like to add my comment to the topic in hand. I would just like to say education is surely the key to a man understanding his own people and race. We come in all different shades/sizes/personalities. If these 'black men' are too fickle to think the shade of your skin is more important than what is between the ears then he is not worth bothering about. First writer, you are an educated black woman, you should want someone on your level. These guys you refer to at your college are beneath you. Don't get vex with them and lower your standards. They do not know any better. I know its frustrating whilst you are waiting for the beautiful black man but surely its worth the wait than taking any fool. Believe me.
I myself am a single, dark skinned nubian queen. Black men have descibed me as being beautiful. I am educated with a law degree (a first may I add). I also have a well payed job in the city. I do love the black man. I am not compromising wth a white guy just because he is the only one that will have me. I'm not looking for a man either. I am confident that the right guy will come a long one day. I just go about my everyday business and focus on my wants and needs. I have had a few proposals of marriage but again, I am not going to take any guy that comes along.
Do not lower your standards because you feel desperate, that can lead to all kinds of trouble.
You stick with it and don't underestimate the power of love.

to davinia and the second writer (sorry i forgot ur name) i see what ur sayin its just dat where i come from croydon it jus seeems like if ur a black girl then ur choices r limited, i no boys out of the ends but it seems they do tend to like the lighter girl. it's just dat comment dat really killed me cos i put both my hands and say "I LOVE BLACK MEN" but wen you hear things like that and den see a majority of the good black men with white girls then it does hurt me.
i'm not hating on white girls because every establishment of education i have been to has been 90% white and i have lived in a white and indian area all my life but it hurts to no dat there is another good black man (yet again!!!) with a white or indian gal.

| Treat each person as you find them. It is not helpful to make such broad generalisations about anyone, gender, race, complexion whatever. So many things influence how people behave, background, upbringing, social and personal circumstances. Some people even put on an act and when you really get to know them, you discover the real person. Also it takes two people to have a conversation or social interaction. Keep being positive, people are different and complex but there are a lot of good people out there. Ask yourself, if a person cannot see your true worth and value, would you really want to be around them anyway??

I agree with alot of other people's points too. You guys have to remember though it's not ALL black men that are like this, just the deluded and misguided few, and with attitudes like that would we really want them anyway? They're no loss to us so whichever pale gal they're getting so excited over is welcome to them. "Who want's a girl they can't see in the dark?" What kind of foolishness is that?" a better question is "Who wants a man who doesn't love his own race?" and "Who wants a man you can't hold a decent, mature conversation with?". These men are fooling themselves no one else. Nothing wrong with light skin, but dark skin has got it going on too and if a man can't see that he's a fool. I still love my black men though and it's not true that ALL black men think that way because all my mans exes and his babymother (and me) are dark skinned and many of my male friends love dark skin too so we get ours (LOL).
@ Simple 'n'..... u need to ignore these BOYS (Yes boys are what they are, cos no one with such an immature mentality could stan' up in my boat and call himself a man), there are plenty of good men out there, u just gotta find one (LOL). Be patient.

Firstly I am not sure whether this post is actually true or whether she just wanted to do the usual "Black male bashing" post. But I shall assume it's true. Now firstly,if this post is true and black males did actually avoid you in preference for the white/mixed females. Do this mean all black man think like that ? It never ceases to amaze me the way black ppl generalize about black ppl more than anyone else. That's helluva lot of black men in this world you are talikng about !!!
Secondly, now I'm gonna generalize but white women are easier to get (generally) than black girls. They are quicker to get into bed (generally).Do black men (generally) prefer light skin women ? No, not really. Men go for what they feel they can get not neceserily what they want. Most black men feel they can get with a white girl easier.Also most would have no problems sleeping with a white girl and not calling her or ringing her again but most (that I speak to) would have problems doing that to a black girl.
Besides most women wud go for Thierry Henry b4 Emile Heskey. Now is this coz Henry is lighter or just that he is better looking.Vice Versa - Most wud go for Tyresse b4 say..... erm....... (Let me think of a light skin briother)....Ah... Rio Ferdinand. the fact is if two ppl were to choose between two equally attractive ppl. One light - One Dark, the light one will (generally) be seen as more attractive. Halle Berry topped the list in FHM 100 of the world most sexiest women. But would she have topped this if she was 'pure' blk. (I doubt it).
The fact is white people have set standard to what is normal and attractive. When a black person says "He is too dark". What they mean is that "He is too dark in comparison to white people".When black ppl say "He has big lips" what he means is that "He has big lips in comparison to white peoples". When black people say "He has a briad nose" what they mean is "He has a broad nose in comparison to white peoples". Are you gettin the drift?
When black women say "I love black men" what they really mean is " I love the handsome,good looking black men but the ones I don't think are nice looking ain't worth my time". Everyone is shallow and superfical when choosing a partner.Looks is everything. It's what get's you noticed, sense of humour,intelligence that comes later.To blame black men or women for being like this is to blame human nature itself.

| The thing is to the girl I can understand what you are saying but just because someone is a black man and you feel they have to like you because you like them it is just so wrong. It takes alot for people to go for one person over the other. Iam black myself though with not so typical black woman's body shape. I get hit on all the times by black men from all over the world. But this does not mean I accept them because they are not what I am looking for. I have Indian men , Arabic, japs, even Whites from typically racist countries propositioning me. And yet I am a dark skinned black girl actually it is mainly mixed race men who approach me more. I have a sister who is even more darker than me but I remember when she was younger posh White French people tipping her for her beauty and not believing my mum who is the most lightest black woman know could have a beautiful child like her. Usually she is never home she is always doing sleep overs at posh White people's homes you name it. At the end of the day it takes alot to have a relationship with someone being of the same race alone is not enough. personality counts for more. No-one wants a horrible woman or be with someone they are not physically attracted to or who does not meet their standards and values they look for in a Partner. And yes I am black african Babe.
