I came across a website for the somali community which has a forum pretty much like this one. i was appalled by the level of negative views some of them hold on black people, such as "Jamaicans" looking like apes, having tough hair etc etc One thread is entitled N****r jokes. What suprised me the most, is that alot of them dont identify them selves as black and distance them selves from other Africans and Black Caribbeans. I thought Somalis were black, but according to alot of people on the forum they are not. They seem to be very tribal and i suppose this is why their country is in such a mess
What i find ironic is that alot of them are wanna be yardies and write their posts using Jamaican slang such as gwan bwoy, big up, chi chi etc etc and diss Jamaicans!
i am aware that there is alot of dis unity amongst certain sectors of the community but was unaware of this Somalian angle on things. ive emailed their chat moderater to get the thread, N****r jokes removed.http://www.somalinet.com/forum/viewforum.php?forum=63&start=0

That site suprised me.
However I do get the impression that it is a very young site??? I hope this is not trueof all perhaps just those users. BBut the tone, and mentality seems a lil confused and way left to say the least.
Not exactly the most positive of sites or disicussions either. Sad to see too.

| I would like to apologise on the behave of the somali community for the behaviour of these idoitic people. I would like to explain that the majority of somalian people do consider to see themseleves as balck so dont take this opinion and abuse on board and treat any other somalis in a bad way due to the ignorance of few. I guess some of them dont releate to waht they see as balck culuture in England and another thing i guess is islam they dont see many other black muslims who are not somalian or from east africa. Still this is not an excuse and i dont condone this bahviour because somalians have balck african features to so those N****r jokes are senseless once again all i can do is offer an apology and hope this can be left in the past where it belongs and move foward as a black race. This mentality of not being black maybe releated to the arab thing like egyptians and morocans not consedring themesleves black. i must also say a lot of the black community reject somalians in particular jamicans i have exepereinced as some of them say they dont consider somalis black. Anyway this is all senseless as we are one and i appluad u for not responding in a negative way by giving abuse back thank you fo reading this good bye.

I aint read the forum yet, but I'm gonna take a quick visit when I can be bothered. Must say though that I aint very suprised. I know for a fact that a lot of black people love to take the piss out of Jamaican's and you know what, it's all cool.
Feel free to disagree if you like, I don't care, but alot of this negativity aimed at the Jamaican's is down to pure jealousy.
They have their ways and they are not always the nicest of people, but ALOT from the UK black culture at this very moment comes from them, so I expect people who can't fit into that culture to be a bit upset.
Alot of slang, alot of the music - all Jamaican, especially the younger community. That's MY heritage so you can expect that from me and it would be silly of me to think that some of that isn't going to rub off on other black people from other cultures/heritages.
I think the problem starts when people stop being themselves, when people stop being 'real'. (Hence the term Jafaken) Now, I PERSONALLY hear ALOT of black people of the bus, tube, road, clubs etc, who sound somewhat off-key because they are trying to talk in a way in which they are not accustomed to. It doesnt sound natural, its sounds weird and as a matter of fact many people of Carribean decent such as myself see it as frigging piss-take.
I know there are many reason's to dislike the Jamaican's, but the main one at the moment is that some people can't be like them, no matter who hard they try. That's why there's ALOT anger and hatred towards Jamaican's and people of carribean heritage. It's not just the Samalians doing it, there's a lot of other 'black' cultures involved. What I think is even more sad is that some of these black people are actually ASHAMED of their cultures. I remember friends from school that would never talk about their country, their music or there language no matter how any times you asked.
It's minor anyway, let them tap away on their computer, cos NONE of them are brave enough to diss like that on road.
If you can't beat them, join them, and if you can't join them shoot-up your mouth over the computer. FOOLS!!

Guys,
In the past, I've checked out some Somali websites. I do not SOMALINET myself, but it didn't come as total suprise to me. I do not know, if you rememered a guy named Shimbir, who used to write on the Blacknet( and I wonder where he is. Holla if you're still around) and he was good and didn't have a problem with people from thr Black diaspora whatsoever. I wish I could remember the post title he wrote on, but he used to warn us on here about some of these websites/ and some in his own people and some of their attitdues about Black people.
I know that some Somalis classify themselves as Arabs, but they are are not on Somali or in the middle east and from what I was taught by a Somali in my class some Somalis are not considered to be Arab, by the White Arabs and are called "Abids"( I think that is the term) that is the equivalent to being called a "n----r". Just like I feel about everybody else, I do not hate people based on who they are, but to those Somalis with that kind of thinking, they need to get with Shimbir and get with the program and realize that they are no different than any other Black person around the world no matter who they are.

when somalians came over they seperated the self from the rest of the black africans, and they made there own comunities where eerybody else is irrelevent , I'm not a somalian but i can oftn pass as one as i have the same hair texture and colour, so i often reciev discrimination but when somialian find out i am not one odf them the majority don't want to know, how ever our generation they are starting to come out and integrate with other people.
its not that people are mean to the m its that they pushed us away and this was our responce (do note that i am generalising not all somailians are the same) but the somialian are in the same boat as the kenyans ethiopians and othe east african countrys

People may think Timbuktu is in asia but does that make them asian I think.
