As far as i'm concerned the way you speak does not define your culture. If you speak english does it mean you r english? If a person is only borrowing ure dialect and not stealing ure culture why does it matter! i get all of ure view points but da truth is it doesn't matter more important things happen on a daily basis then some one talkin jamaican patios. Get over it!!! All west indian people who deny der african roots have lost der heritage!!

First of all Sean Paul is not of African (north or sub-sharan) origin there are a lot of people in Jamaica who look like him and they are mostly of black and white origin or chinese/black/white origin. Have you seen anyone of his family members?, his brother looks chinese

I've lived is this country as long as i can remember and I know Jamiacans n even had friends of them...I'm not talkin lik am from a distance planet,but the truth is that many of u Jamaicans try to act white and speak lik they r white people (do u think d whites keep askin y they wanna speak like them?) truelly.even today in the UK the white media portrays Jamiacans as criminals,drug dealers ,uneducated n losers,the majority of single black mums in this country r Jamaicans,the majority of young black teen mothers in this country are Jamaicans,strugglin n risin kids on thier own,but the best dancers n streeet hangaz n designer wearers r u yeh,(even tho i believe not all of what they say is 100%) its not Africans makin all this sh*t,u can see it in d media n press everyday n all this media is not owned by Africans,so find ur real enemy n leave Africans alone cos u can't challenge Africans or win anything against them trust me on this bro.if u put Jamaica on d map of Africa its too tiny that u can't even notice it,if u compare in terms of resources n men people Africa is totally huge than u guyz.Nigeria alone is bigger than d whole of carribean put together economically,militarily or even in turms of men power,leave alone other African nations,so don't b runnin ur mouth here like u guyz r important,otherwise the American president,British pm,German Chancellor wouldn't b goin down to Africa but in stead 2 Jamaica (im challengin Jamaicans only who want to go against African).I'm all good with other Carribeans who themselve say Jamaicans been a problem in messin up the image of d whole carribean.

Want to put themselves with their eurocentric attitude on a International level, sometimes when that woamn spoke I was just gobsmaked !!,because as we see in Nigeria 'she never spoke as someone with sense',if at all this combination or assimilation of Jamaican culture was a bad thing I'm sure everyday of the week we would be getting news reports of the ill it was doing, but that was not the case.

Gemini, you really are an ignorant fool. I bet you think that all of your ancestors were indigneous Jamaicans do you? If you do, then you really are ignorant. Some Jamaicans/West Indians are confused and what I would call "walking contradictions".
After some probing, they will finally acknowledge that they have African ancestry, but will then do everything that they can to degrade and dismiss this African heritage. Some of you are extremely lost in my opinion. I mean, what right do you have to mock the poverty that is present in Africa. About 2 years ago, I actually went to teach in a local school in Kingston through a charitable organisation. Some of the poverty that I saw in Kingston was far worse than any poverty that I see when I go to Ghana. So, you have no right to think that you are beter/superior to Africans in this respect. Of course, there is poverty in Africa, but there is also a lot of bad poverty in the Caribbean. Those pictures that the western media portray of the Caribbean - i.e. beaches and hotel resorts (totally populated by white tourists being served by local blacks) do not show the whole picture of life in the Caribbean. For instance, if you go to downtown Kingston, then you will see how the local Jamaicans live. The reason why islands in the

So me as an Nigerian i am glad my parents came here out of choice beacuase they could and not to be any slave to anyone my parents are both very very succesfull both here and back home and not to say any Jamaicans are not but whether we like it or not the thruth is........
There are alot of Decent Jamaicans and carribeans from there homeland in University's in London as there is Africans from Africa.
There are also alot of Black British children carribean and African at university's in London too but the fact still remans whteher we like it or not but it is ture!!!! the majority of black Students in university in the U.K are African!!!!!
At oxford here i know about 3 carribeans and a few black british carribean people too as well as africans...
So instead of us making the the divide between Africans and Caribeans should we not be happy that Black people are going to the university at all and good ones for that mattr we are breaking the mould and it is an achievement that all Black people should be proud of...

I think saying to someone that "you don't look African" is very silly seeing as Africans look all different
But saying that its easy to tell the difference betwen most Africans and black caribbeans because most black Jamaicans and black Trinidadians are mixed with other races. Islands such as Barbados, Bahamas, Haiti have a higher percentage of people of pure African decent.
But its very rare to see a black Jamaican or black Trinidadian who looks very African

Seriously you should research / make sure of stuff before you state it.
It is FAR from rare to see a Jamaican that has a African look. There are PLENTY!!!! In UK and over there. Sometimes if it wasnt for accent, body language and dress sense you may be fooled.
I have seen MANY West Indians and you can look at them and think to myself 'There peeps MUST have been from Ghana' becasue you can see such similarity with the features etc.
There are many WI islands that have people that have African looks and there are many people that have other influences.
Africa is very mixed as well. People always presuming Africa is just Nigeria/ Ghana etc. When you look on Africa on the WHOLE there are so many different mixes. There are white folk there too / Asians etc.

Whats good! I live in the U.s. I cannot belive what i am reading! I thought my country was racist!My father was born in jamaica (he is 50%chinese) but grew up in brixton, and moved here in the u.s. and lived in the Bronx in 1973. I l know there is still a big jamaican population here in the U.S., some of them from the Uk, because they belive this is the land of opportunity. And i lot of them are educated.
When will we give up ignorant attiudes! take it from me, we should love people for who they are instead of what backround they are. I have white friends, puerto rican,and jordian friends, as well as my jamaican, english family. We should just learn how history instead of repeating it. ONE LOVE

And it pisss me off when Jamo's or carribeans are so quick to differenciate how different they look from Africans well i have news for ya'll NO YOU DO NOT!! WE ALL LOOK THE SAME!!!
AFRICANS HAVE DIFFERENT LOOKS RANGING FROM FAIR LIGHT DARK INDIAN LOOKING ALL TYPES AFRICA IS A MELTING POT OF LOOKS AND IT IS TRUE TO SAY THAT SOME TRIBES HAVE MORE PRONOUNCED LOOKS THAN OTHERS AND SO DO JAMO'S , CARRIBEANS WHATEVER!!!
It is ll relative 50cent looks like someone from my village too..lol true do you know why because we black peopla ALL CAME FROM AFRICA HABA!!

For your information 'Jamo's' are West Indian, Jamaica is in the Caribbean!!! That is the equivalent to me saying "and it pisses me off when a Nigerian or African.......".
It pisses you off when Carribeans are quick to differenciate how they look, yet you have already confirmed that your own people say you don't look Nigerian and assume you are West Indian, so would that not tell you that they also assume that West Indians don't look the same as they do??? and i quote:' oh soo your one of us ehn?you dont look it... Jamo, Caribbeans Whatever????? Your statement tries to abolish an ignorance, yet your last three words just killed it. What do you mean by whatever?? I dont know why you keep seperating Jamaicans from the rest of the Caribbean. At the end of the day all you are saying is both sides think you look West Indian!!! The ignorance is not necessary.

Regardless of who is what and how you look to other blacks other races' see us as all the same . It must be noted however their is a culture of the Caribbean being an attractive place to come from and most youth speaking with some form of an west Indian dialect . The CULTURE I GREW UP MADE OUT IT IS AND INSULT TO BE CALLED AFRICAN LOOKING AND TO BE VERY DARK SKINNED. Mostly idiots think it an insult mind. This is all irrelevant. I could'nt thank you more for this topic,that is both amusing and has many different interesting twists.
I'm originally from cameroon and my family has lived in the u.s. and canada for the last 17 years.I promise you that I could write a book on this topic,because it has occured with me and my sisters so many times it is ridiculous.
Most of my family is of a medium and light brownish color,with more slender facial looks,than you see with most west africans,who are on average dark skinned to jet black.Especially the senegalese.
Yes,in other words my sisters and I don't have the stereotypical africa look,that so many people expect that we should being from africa.Covering the thing that upsets me about the"You don't look african"comment is that it's a loaded statement,which most of the time means"you aren't coal black and extremely ugly"unfortunately,this is what alot of people think of african women,when they see women that defy their expectations,their reaction is shock and amazement.
I have had alot of carribean and black american people make the comment to me and in ways I can understand why they say it.
I know that even in black africa people range in skin tone,but generally speaking black carribean people and black american people are lighter in complexion than most blacks in africa and their facial structures usually point out that they are of some degree of white or american indian ancestry(25% on average) when you compare them to people in black africa(generally).It's usually a no-brainer!
So,differences do exist among people.You're more likely to find a black person that looks like beyonce,janet jackson or toni braxton in america or jamaica than you are in black africa.
in fairness,I'd like to add that carribeans and black americans don't have the market cornered with the "you don't look african"remarks.I've recieved as many such comments from nigerians and ghanaians.Some even went as far as to suggest that I was faking altogether.
Oh yes...and on color & feature preferences among the world's black populations,africans*especially men*are also guilty of deeming lighter skinned black women more attractive.In cameroon for example a lighter skinned girl fetches a higher bride price than a darker girl.Most men there dream of something like a beyonce.

within Africa there are different types of Africans
West predominantly more negroid looking africans (kinkier hair, broader flat noses, etc)
North Africa has the arab africans (resemble saudis and those of syria, libya more caucasian)
South has a mixture of indian people and white people as well as more negroid looking africans.
Central they are more negroid and sub saharan as in the west
East Africa they have more of a dark arab look to them that resembles the arabs across the red sea and gulf of aden. (longer less nappy hair, sharp features noses, cheek bones, etc) You can find such peoples in Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti (and some parts of Kenya and Tanzania where there has been extreme intermixing wit |
