Today I'm walking through my ends.  A rage runs through me as I spot something and I say to myself:

''But what the f*%k is this" !

Yet another black hair care shop being opened up by Asians next door to their Asian grocery store.  With the young men/boys whose father owns the grocery store standing outside grinning their teeth to high heaven with their tight jeans and old style baseball caps.  For what I do not know.  I can see that their intention is to get 'friendly friendly' with the black women who choose to go in there and to increase their street cred by socialising/associating with us.  Which is the case with a lot of these shops owned by Asians as I have experienced for myself.

I don't understand the black people, especially the women, who help them to start up these shops.  What are they thinking ?  Can't they see what is going on around them in the granfer scheme of things.  Certain black people are so ready to sell themselves and the rest of us out by helping others infiltrate our business and territory, to grin teeth with them and ting because they fail to see the larger picture.  But mostly do not have themselves in high regard or worth and seek the graditute of others for the ignorance/loathing/fear of self which doesn't inform them that certain things need to be protected and maintained.  Traitors.

It's just the audacity to open up a shop of products relating to our own distinct identity to suck our money from us.  Blood suckers !  These people have no shame or respect for us.  It feels like a slap in the face.  Big ting as well, right on Leyton High Road.  They're so protective of theirs and an inclusive people in the UK but are ready to infiltrate and mess up others to benefit themselvse whether its in music, culture, identity, business and many other things.

As soon as I am able I'll be starting up businesses for us and by us.  There's a lot of Caribbean restaurants out there and hair shops run by us but the Asians seem to do it on a grand scale that dwarfs our efforts, like PAK Cosmetics.

You don't need to guess that I'll be boycotting it and will be advising those around me to do the same and go instead to the black owned hair shops in the area.  I know people have some bad stories about PAK Cosmetics.

man aint that the truth!!!!!

everyone running around saying that Juliets is a black owned business whatever until I see the the owner and the paper work I aint believing it  nearly all the shops in Peckham and East street are on the same thing, not no racist got love for the asian people but we need to start supporting our own, we are all ready to spend money in their chicken and chip shops and nightclubs but I 've never seen any anything from a west indian restuaurant, yes my girls I know what your thinking the black owned shop when you do find tend to have a poor customer service and high prices but common I d rather spend some money there and know my people is getting the money at the end of the day we have the power we decide where we spend our money so common girls help out your own people.

I'm not about to complain about Asian run shops because if you were to shut down every asian run hair shop in my local vicinity there would only be 1 left out of about 9-10. Bear in mind that asians are very business orientated and that they are just catering for the majority. In mainly black populated areas they know a hair shop will do well so they open it. We can't blame them for uniting and prospering instead we should perhaps try taking a leaf out of their books.

Black people should be more open to business opportunity eg.I live in Harrow there is a black hair product shop but they don't stock what black people want so myself and others have to go to Harlesden to an 'Asian' black hair shop..Why is that?  I have requested the products.

Asian know what the customer market want and supply it.

I feel a customer goes where they can get what they want and then they look for the cheapest and best service. I'm sure you ladies wouldn't support a black saloon if it was giving you bad hair styles just because it black.

Beats me why blacks dont employ asians to run their stores. Clearly asians are better at customer services than we are.

DOH!

Black hair stores opened by Asians beacsue they know the ''phenominal'' power of the black pound. You cant not them for that

Asians aren't better at customer service. Not in my opinion but to each his own

personally I think black men are the best at customer service, better then woman, better then other men.

I buy my hair products from Nubian Jack's, and no-one can't tell me that it's Asian owned!

The problem I found with Black owned businesses was the high price of the goods. At that time I was watching the pennies hard. Now, if I can afford it, I'll buy Black.

You also have to remember that Asian people run a kind of cartel i.e they can afford to price others out of the wholesale market. That's why sometimes, if you go to a Black newsagents for example, you'll find products like cigarettes, sweets etc out of stock.

Interesting point Lady Vee.

Why is it that us as black ppl are not able to create our own 'cartel'....buy hair items at wholesale  cut rate prices, for resale at a more economically price for all...Like the Asians...???

We have the same problems in the STATES, except all the hair and beauty store  are run by the Orientals. Whenever you go to a black owned hair shop (or nail shop), the prices are ALWAYS 'forced'up' so they can stay in business..

@ Strongbodygirl,

The problem here is 1) There aren't enough Black businesses to form a cartel. Most shops are owned by Asians and 2) People are just trying to scratch a living for themselves. For example, near where I live there's a main High Street. Most of these shops (there are about 100 on this street) are either Black hairdressers, foodshops or barbers. Now, how can you expect to make a decent profit when your business is in such a competitive area? Obviously people are not going to be bothered about their neighbour because they need to pay their overheads.

Black people are disenfranchised. You'll find Asians looking out for their own much more than a Black person would over here. Sad, but true.

I ain't mad them!

Why be angry at someone for simply making a living?

Black folks have had many years, and many opportunities to open up these shops and well as grocery stores in their communities.

Run down store fronts are all over the minority communities. The Asians come in and open their shops, and we are angry because they see the opportunity (that we apparently don't see) and open up stores. These folks work hard. The entire family works in the stores. The families get together and make sacrifices to open their business. The Hispanics are doing the same thing. Several families live in one home until they are able to buy (low income) property. They take that property, fix it up and have nice homes to live in, and move on up!

These are the lessons many black folks need to learn.

UNITY!

What are we supposed to do if we can't shop at Asians to get hair products? Not do our hair?  I do wish that it was a black person that really knew our needs and capitalized off of it but just like most other businesses in our community its not.  I'm not going to stop shopping at their stores because to me Asians are not our true enemies.  They are just trying to get money the best way they can.

Yes it is times that I have went into the stores and bought a weave and looked at the little indian girl who sold it to me, like you never use the products you sell to me, but hey who fault is that?  Besides I support black businesses all the time, resturants, clothes, record shops, health food stores, all that.  If black business got it at a decent price I would prefer to get it from them, but if they don't , I will sure enough get it from asians or who ever eles has it.

Like I said, I feel where you comming from, it is lots of Asians, Indians and Arabs that make money off of us and I see where your comming from but they are not the real enemy.  I don't know how old you are, but I remember a time when they didn't even have stores like that catering to black womens needs.  I remember everything on the shelves was for white womens hair and skin so I'm glad they have stores made for us, to bad more of them are not owned by blacks.  I also remember when white, asian and arab business owners were scared of the people in our community and thought all blacks were out to rob them. Im glad to see Asians being friendly to the people in our community and getting to know black people upclose rather then some stereotypical stuff from television.  When I go to the koreans to get my nails done, I don't feel any ill will towards them for getting this money, I just think of new ways I can step my game up to get money too.
